Is it better for a suspension to have soft coil springs or stiff springs? The purpose of a suspension is to keep your tires on the ground. A softer suspension will offer more mechanical grip as it will do a better job of keeping the tires on the ground vs a stiff suspension when it comes to depressions, bumps, and surface irregularities in the road. But then why do race cars have such stiff suspensions? This video explains the design philosophy behind race car suspensions.

This mustang suspension teardown shows you every step of tearing down a front end suspension, including mustang control arm teardown, upper and lower control arm disassembly, the right way to release a coil spring, and tearing down everything else to prepare for a mustang suspension upgrade.
You also get to see a coil compressor fail, and then the right way to use a coil compressor. The original mustang suspension setup gets completely removed before the mustang front end swap. If you plan on tearing down a front end on any vehicle this video is a must watch if you want to do it correctly and safely.

Here's the basics on how the two main types of automotive suspensions work - Double Wishbone and MacPherson. The purpose of a car's suspension is to support the weight of a vehicle, keep good tire contact with the ground and absorb any impacts when driving over road imperfections. Modern suspension systems make use of various geometry to handle this task, each with its own pros and cons. In this video, the suspension from a MacPherson strut vehicle is described, taken apart part by part and explained. It is then compared to the suspension of a car with double wishbone suspension. At the end of the video, a live comparison is presented between the two suspension types as the vehicles drive down the road. The main components of a suspension are the control arms, strut (or spring and shock absorber), ball joints, and steering knuckles. The arrangement of these components form various geometrical relationships which can be categories and related to wheel motion as a vehicle navigates a corner or rides over a road imperfection. The vehicles demonstrated in this video are a 2001 Toyota Corolla a 2007 Lexus GS350, and a 2004 Toyota Camry. How Automotive Suspension Systems Work
Here's the basics on how the two main types of automotive suspensions work - Double Wishbone and MacPherson. The purpose of a car's suspension is to support the weight of a vehicle, keep good tire contact with the ground and absorb any impacts when driving over road imperfections. Modern suspension systems make use of various geometry to handle this task, each with its own pros and cons. In this video, the suspension from a MacPherson strut vehicle is described, taken apart part by part and explained. It is then compared to the suspension of a car with double wishbone suspension. At the end of the video, a live comparison is presented between the two suspension types as the vehicles drive down the road. But then why do race cars have such stiff suspensions? This video explains the design philosophy behind race car suspensions.

The purpose of a car's suspension is to support the weight of a vehicle, keep good tire contact with the ground and absorb any impacts when driving over road imperfections.
Modern suspension systems make use of various geometry to handle this task, each with its own pros and cons. In this video, the suspension from a MacPherson strut vehicle is described, taken apart part by part and explained. It is then compared to the suspension of a car with double wishbone suspension.
At the end of the video, a live comparison is presented between the two suspension types as the vehicles drive down the road.
The main components of a suspension are the control arms, strut (or spring and shock absorber), ball joints, and steering knuckles. The arrangement of these components form various geometrical relationships which can be categories and related to wheel motion as a vehicle navigates a corner or rides over a road imperfection.
The vehicles demonstrated in this video are a 2001 Toyota Corolla a 2007 Lexus GS350, and a 2004 Toyota Camry.

The main components of a suspension are the control arms, strut (or spring and shock absorber), ball joints, and steering knuckles. The arrangement of these components form various geometrical relationships which can be categories and related to wheel motion as a vehicle navigates a corner or rides over a road imperfection.
The vehicles demonstrated in this video are a 2001 Toyota Corolla a 2007 Lexus GS350, and a 2004 Toyota Camry.

Is it better for a suspension to have soft coil springs or stiff springs? The purpose of a suspension is to keep your tires on the ground. A softer suspension will offer more mechanical grip as it will do a better job of keeping the tires on the ground vs a stiff suspension when it comes to depressions, bumps, and surface irregularities in the road. But then why do race cars have such stiff suspensions? This video explains the design philosophy behind race car suspensions.
