How VCE works! (Victorian Certificate Of Education) + ATAR Explained
When a student completes the VCE their results are produced by the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority).
Each Unit 3/4 sequence completed will be reported on the student's Statement of Results with the following:
Unit result (S = Satisfactory pass, N = Not satisfactorily passed)
Three graded assessments (letter grades, e.g. B+)
One study score (maximum 50)
The study scores are raw scores.
VCAA sends the student's raw scores to VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) where they are converted into subject scores.
Subject scores are scaled scores.
The scaled subject scores are then used to calculate the student's ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
In summary:
VCAA is responsible for raw study scores
VTAC is responsible for scaled subject scores and the ATAR
The easiest way to recognise the difference is:
VCE study scores are whole figures and the highest achievable is 50
VTAC subject scores have a decimal point
The ATAR has a decimal point and the highest achievable is 99.95
How is the ATAR calculated? How are subjects scaled?
The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is calculated by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) from your study scores.

What must I include in my VCE program?
To earn your VCE, you must satisfactorily complete at least 16 units.
Regardless of how many units you do altogether, you must satisfactorily complete:
At least three units from the English group listed below:
Foundation English Units 1 and 2
English Units 1 to 4
English as an Additional Language (ESL) Units 3 and 4
English Language Units 1 to 4
Literature Units 1 to 4
At least one of these units must be at Unit 3 or 4 level. However, VTAC advises that for the calculation of the ATAR, students must satisfactorily complete both Unit 3 and Unit 4 of an English sequence.
Three sequences of Unit 3 and 4 studies in addition to the sequence chosen from the English group. These sequences can be from VCE studies and/or VCE VET programs.
If you intend to apply for tertiary entrance at the end of your VCE, you need to be aware that the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre has additional requirements for the calculation of the ATAR.

How many subjects do I have to study each year?
The VCAA does not prescribe a minimum number of subjects/units that students have to study each year. You can take as long as you need to complete the VCE.

What are the attendance requirements for the VCE?
All VCE units require 50 hours of class time. You need to attend sufficient class time to complete work. Your school sets minimum class time and attendance rules.

What is a study score?
A study score shows how well you have performed in a study at Unit 3 and 4 level, compared to everybody else in Victoria who took that study. Study scores calculated by the VCAA will be used by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) to calculate the ATAR.
The maximum study score is 50. Each year, and for every study, the mean study score is set at 30. A score of between 23 and 37 shows that you are in the middle range of students; a score of more than 38 indicates that you are in the top 15%.
For studies with large enrolments (1,000 or more):
2% of students will get a score on or above 45
9% of students will get a score on or above 40
26% of students will get a score on or above 35
53% of students will get a score on or above 30
78% of students will get a score on or above 25
93% of students will get a score on or above 20.

The tractate Of Education was published in 1644, first appearing anonymously as a single eight-page quarto sheet (Ainsworth 6). Presented as a letter written in response to a request from the Puritan educational reformer Samuel Hartlib, it represents John Milton's most comprehensive statement on educational reform (Viswanathan 352), and gives voice to his views "concerning the best and noblest way of education" (Milton 63). As outlined in the tractate, education carried for Milton a dual objective: one public, to “fit a man to perform justly, skillfully, and magnanimously all the offices, both private and public, of peace and war” (55); and the other private, to “repair the ruins of our first parents by regaining to know God aright, and out of that knowledge to love Him, to be like Him, as we may the nearest by possessing our soul of true virtue” (52).
Influences
The influences at work in the tractate are an interesting blend of Renaissance humanism with its emphasis on the via activa, tempered by the more contemplative medieval concern with personal redemption. It is clear, however, that the overwhelming thrust of Milton's educational programme as outlined in the tractate is centred in the public objective. This is likely a reaction to the scholasticism that dominated the medieval university from the twelfth century, which still held sway in Milton's time (Ainsworth 25).

Year Twelve
Year 12 is an educational year group in schools in many countries including England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is the administrative body which processes applications for universities (and other tertiary institutions) in the state of Victoria (Australia).
Application system
Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) processes applications from suitably qualified students, which may list up to 12 preferences for tertiary courses in the state of Victoria. Tertiary institutions determine whether the applicant is given an offer to undertake a course – VTAC then informs students of the highest preferred course they have been offered, if any.

Australian Tertiary Admission Rank
The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is the primary criterion for entry into most undergraduate-entry university programs in Australia. It was gradually introduced during 2009 and 2010 to replace the Universities Admission Index, Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank and Tertiary Entrance Rank. Queensland still retains its own separate Overall Position system, but will begin using the national ATAR system in 2018.
Overview
The ATAR is a percentile score given between “less than 30” up to 99.95 (in a minimum increment of 0.05) which denotes a student’s ranking relative to his or her peers upon completion of their secondary education. For example, an ATAR score of 99.0 means that the student performed better than 99% of his or her peers, and ranks lower than 0.95% of peers (as the maximum score is 99.95). "Peers" is not the body of students receiving an ATAR that year, but a notional body of persons who might be qualified to receive an ATAR - as a result, the median ATAR score is well above 50.00. For example, the median ATAR score for 2014 was 68.95.

After completing 6 exams in 9 days (finishing on the 4th of November) and nervously waiting for over a month, I bring you my 2016 ATAR reaction. My first preference is a Bachelor of Nursing at RMIT Bundoora. It requires a 60.20 ATAR, and a prerequisite of 25 for English. I was aiming for a 65 ATAR, and study scores of: 28 in English and Further Mathematics, 34 in Psychology, Health and Human Development and Physical Education. I had already done Biology last year and got a 31 study score, and completed my Certificate 3 in Allied Health Assistance. -

I wasn't happy with my study scores but very happy with my ATAR! I know that makes no sense But at the end of the day, remember it's only a number and you can do whatever you want in your life, you just need to find another way ♥

When a student completes the VCE their results are produced by the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority).
Each Unit 3/4 sequence completed will be reported on the student's Statement of Results with the following:
Unit result (S = Satisfactory pass, N = Not satisfactorily passed)
Three graded assessments (letter grades, e.g. B+)
One study score (maximum 50)
The study scores are raw scores.
VCAA sends the student's raw scores to VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) where they are converted into subject scores.
Subject scores are scaled scores.
The scaled subject scores are then used to calculate the student's ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
In summary:
VCAA is responsible for raw study scores
VTAC is responsible for scaled subject scores and the ATAR
The easiest way to recognise the difference is:
VCE study scores are whole figures and the highest achievable is 50
VTAC subject scores have a decimal point
The ATAR has a decimal point and the highest achievable is 99.95
How is the ATAR calculated? How are subjects scaled?
The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is calculated by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) from your study scores.

What must I include in my VCE program?

26% of students will get a score on or above 35
53% of students will get a score on or above 30
78% of students will get a score on or above 25
93% of students will get a score on or above 20.

After completing 6 exams in 9 days (finishing on the 4th of November) and nervously waiting for over a month, I bring you my 2016 ATAR reaction.
My first preference is a Bachelor of Nursing at RMIT Bundoora. It requires a 60.20 ATAR, and a prerequisite of 25 for English.
I was aiming for a 65 ATAR, and study scores of:
28 in English and Further Mathematics, 34 in Psychology, Health and Human Development and Physical Education.
I had already done Biology last year and got a 31 study score, and completed my Certificate 3 in Allied Health Assistance.

How VCE works! (Victorian Certificate Of Education) + ATAR Explained
When a student completes the VCE their results are produced by the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority).
Each Unit 3/4 sequence completed will be reported on the student's Statement of Results with the following:
Unit result (S = Satisfactory pass, N = Not satisfactorily passed)
Three graded assessments (letter grades, e.g. B+)
One study score (maximum 50)
The study scores are raw scores.
VCAA sends the student's raw scores to VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) where they are converted into subject scores.
Subject scores are scaled scores.
The scaled subject scores are then used to calculate the student's ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
In summary:
VCAA is responsible for raw study scores
VTAC is responsible for scaled subject scores and the ATAR
The easiest way to recognise the difference is:
VCE study scores are whole figures and the highest achievable is 50
VTAC subject scores have a decimal point
The ATAR has a decimal point and the highest achievable is 99.95
How is the ATAR calculated? How are subjects scaled?
The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is calculated by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) from your study scores.

What is a study score?
A study score shows how well you have performed in a study at Unit 3 and 4 level, compared to everybody else in Victoria who took that study. Study scores calculated by the VCAA will be used by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) to calculate the ATAR.
The maximum study score is 50. Each year, and for every study, the mean study score is set at 30. A score of between 23 and 37 shows that you are in the middle range of students; a score of more than 38 indicates that you are in the top 15%.
For studies with large enrolments (1,000 or more):
2% of students will get a score on or above 45
9% of students will get a score on or above 40
26% of students will get a score on or above 35
53% of students will get a score on or above 30
78% of students will get a score on or above 25
93% of students will get a score on or above 20.

How VCE works! (Victorian Certificate Of Education) + ATAR Explained
When a student completes the VCE their results are produced by the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority).
Each Unit 3/4 sequence completed will be reported on the student's Statement of Results with the following:
Unit result (S = Satisfactory pass, N = Not satisfactorily passed)
Three graded assessments (letter grades, e.g. B+)
One study score (maximum 50)
The study scores are raw scores.
VCAA sends the student's raw scores to VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) where they are converted into subject scores.
Subject scores are scaled scores.
The scaled subject scores are then used to calculate the student's ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
In summary:
VCAA is responsible for raw study scores
VTAC is responsible for scaled subject scores and the ATAR
The easiest way to recognise the difference is:
VCE study scores are whole figures and the highest achievable is 50
VTAC subject scores have a decimal point
The ATAR has a decimal point and the highest achievable is 99.95

My first preference is a Bachelor of Nursing at RMIT Bundoora. It requires a 60.20 ATAR, and a prerequisite of 25 for English.
I was aiming for a 65 ATAR, and study scores of:
28 in English and Further Mathematics, 34 in Psychology, Health and Human Development and Physical Education.
I had already done Biology last year and got a 31 study score, and completed my Certificate 3 in Allied Health Assistance.

I just completed my final year of High School (Year 12 in Victoria, Australia) and as probably another form of procrastination really I decided to vlog my exam period. This video stretches across nearly a month from the day before my first exam to the day after my last.
