Medical diagnosis (abbreviated DS or Dx) is the process of determining which disease or condition explains a person's symptoms and signs. It is most often referred to as diagnosis with the medical context being implicit. The information required for diagnosis is typically collected from a history and physical examination of the person seeking medical care. Often, one or more diagnostic procedures, such as diagnostic tests, are also done during the process. Sometimes Posthumous diagnosis is considered a kind of medical diagnosis.
Diagnosis is often challenging, because many signs and symptoms are nonspecific. For example, redness of the skin (erythema), by itself, is a sign of many disorders and thus doesn't tell the healthcare professional what is wrong. Thus differential diagnosis, in which several possible explanations are compared and contrasted, must be performed. This involves the correlation of various pieces of information followed by the recognition and differentiation of patterns. Occasionally the process is made easy by a sign or symptom (or a group of several) that is pathognomonic.
John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona. He was the Republican presidential nominee in the 2008 United States presidential election.
McCain followed his father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, into the United States Navy, graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958. He became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he was almost killed in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. In October 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, seriously injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war until 1973. McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer. His war wounds left him with lifelong physical limitations.
He retired from the Navy as a captain in 1981 and moved to Arizona, where he entered politics. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, he served two terms, and was then elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986, winning re-election easily four times, most recently in 2010. While generally adhering to conservative principles, McCain at times has had a media reputation as a "maverick" for his willingness to disagree with his party on certain issues. After being investigated and largely exonerated in a political influence scandal of the 1980s as a member of the Keating Five, he made campaign finance reform one of his signature concerns, which eventually led to the passage of the McCain-Feingold Act in 2002. He is also known for his work towards restoring diplomatic relations with Vietnam in the 1990s, and for his belief that the war in Iraq should be fought to a successful conclusion. McCain has chaired the Senate Commerce Committee, opposed spending that he considered to be pork barrel, and played a key role in alleviating a crisis over judicial nominations.
Mystery Diagnosis is a television program that airs on the OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Each episode focuses on two or more individuals and their struggles to find out what ailments they suffer from. As the program's title suggests, doctors have a difficult time finding a diagnosis, often due to nonspecific symptoms, masquerading syndromes, the rarity of the condition or disease, or the patient's case being an unusual manifestation of said condition or disease.
The series debuted on Discovery Health Channel in 2005, and was continued when the Oprah Winfrey Network replaced Discovery Health on January 1, 2011; the current season premiered January 5, 2011.
The episodes's opening titles once began with a voice-over narration that transcribed as follows:
That narration was later dropped in favor of on-screen captions that read:
What if
all the tests
told you NOTHING?
They study the symptoms.
They look for signs.
They find the cure.

When someone famous gets diagnosed with a disease the media talks about that disease a lot. But what exactly do they say? They repeat the same pattern. They invite doctors and experts to TV and ask, "what are the symptoms of this disease?" For example, let's call it disease A. All they talk about is how disease A have these 4 symptoms. Let's call them symptom 1, symptom 2, symptom 3 and symptom 4. What do people learn from that news? People learn that if you have the combination of these 4 symptoms, you ...

Medical diagnosis often is based on information visible from medical images. But what if machine learning and artificial intelligence could help our doctors gain more knowledge from medical images and therefore predict diseases earlier? New research indicates this is indeed possible, and the implications for preventive medicine and several disease types are large. Learn about it in this talk. Shinjini graduated from high school at age 16, earned a PhD at 25, and was named one of Pittsburgh’s 40 under 40 in 2016. In her PhD work at Stanford, Shinjini employed machine learning that trained computers to detect patterns in medical images. That technology enables doctors to detect osteoarthritis three years before symptoms are evident. Shinjini is currently an MD-PhD scientist in the Medical ...

Doctor Andrew Michaels does a medical exam on a patient that has soreness in their throat. The proper diagnosis is that the person is suffering from painfully large Tonsil Stones that have grown in the back of their throat and need removed properly. Tonsil Stones are a leading cause of bad breath, and are easily removed and prevented. Tonsilloliths, also known as tonsil stones, are soft aggregates of bacterial and cellular debris that form in the tonsillar crypts, the crevices of the tonsils. While they occur most commonly in the palatine tonsils, they may also occur in the lingual tonsils. Tonsil stones are very common. Tonsilloliths have been recorded weighing from 0.3g to 42g. Protruding tonsilloliths may feel like foreign objects lodged in the tonsil crypt. They may be a nuisance an...
