ORF 2 is an Austrian television channel owned by ORF.
ORF 2 was launched on 11 September 1961 as a technical test programme. Since 1970, ORF 2 broadcasts on seven days a week. Today it is one of the four public TV channels in Austria.
Whereas ORF eins focuses on TV series and movies, ORF 2 broadcasts cultural programming and regional information. There are regional broadcasts for each county in Austria but mostly only a half hour when ORF broadcasts "Bundesland heute", a slot for regional news, at 7PM.
ORF 2 is available via DVB-T in Germany near the Austrian border and in parts of Munich. Unlike the German TV stations (which are generally available free-to-air), ORF eins and ORF 2 are encrypted over satellite.
Mieczysław Weinberg (also Moisey or Moishe Vainberg, Moisey Samuilovich Vaynberg; Russian: Моисей Самуилович Вайнберг; Polish: Mojsze [Mieczysław] Wajnberg; 8 December 1919 – 26 February 1996) was a Soviet composer of Polish-Jewish origin. From 1939 he lived in the Soviet Union and Russia and lost most of his family in the Holocaust.
He left a large body of work that included twenty-two symphonies and seventeen string quartets. According to one reviewer, he ranked as "the third great Soviet composer, along with Prokofiev and Shostakovich".
Much confusion has been caused by different renditions of the composer's names. In the Polish language (i.e. prior to his move to the USSR), his name was spelled as 'Mojsze (Mieczysław) Wajnberg', whereas in the Russian language (i.e. after the move) he was and still is known as 'Моисей Самуилович Вайнберг' (Moisey Samuilovich Vaynberg). In the world of Yiddish theater of antebellum Warsaw he was known as Moishe Weinberg (Yiddish: משה װײַנבערג), which is analogous to the Russian Moisey. Among close friends he would also go by his Polish diminutive 'Mietek'. Re-transliteration of his surname from Cyrillic (Вайнберг) back into the Latin alphabet produced a variety of spellings, including 'Weinberg', 'Vainberg', and 'Vaynberg'. The form 'Weinberg' is now being increasingly used as the most frequent English-language rendition of this common Jewish surname, notably in the latest edition of Grove and by Weinberg's biographer, Per Skans.
Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz Festival) is a performing arts festival which is held every July and August in Bregenz, Austria.
Founded in 1946, the festival presents a wide variety of musical and theatrical events in several venues:
Since December 2003, David Pountney has been the artistic director of the festival.
In 2010, the festival offered about 100 performances that drew an audience of close to 200,000.
Over April and May 2008, scenes for the 22nd James Bond film Quantum of Solace were filmed on the Seebühne during a performance of Tosca and in June 2008 the German broadcasting corporation ZDF hosted its 2008 European Football Championship live broadcast studio on the floating stage.

This February sees the UK premiere of Opera North's production of Mieczysław Weinberg's The Portrait. Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996), lived through some of the most dramatic moments of the 20th Century as a Polish Jew. Despite a life marked by great struggles and disappointments, he composed an extraordinary body of symphonies, sonatas, songs and operas, and became a close friend of the much admired composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Weinberg's biographer David Fanning, musicologist Michelle Assay and opera director David Pountney discuss the composer in the context of Jewish artists and the Soviet Union, World War II and Shostakovich. All the chamber music in this video was composed by Weinberg, and is performed by David Greed and Anthony Kraus.
On the “Statesman Shots” podcast, guests Elena Weinberg and Duncan Coe, co-creator and star, and director and executive producer of the online series “#ATown,” discuss with co-hosts Tolly Moseley and Omar L. Gallaga the things they, as locals, could do without. Traffic, back-in parking, overabundance of beer varieties, Austinite angst? They’re DONE with all that. Statesman Shots runs down the best haunted houses in the area and asks viewers to vote on who had the best costume: Omar Gallaga, Tolly Moseley, or podcast guest David J. Mieczysław Weinberg’s "The Passenger" is one of the most stunning stories in opera history. Written in 1960s Moscow, it was suppressed by the regime because of its representation of the Holocaust, receiving its much-delayed world premiere only in 2010. Since then, it has quickly been recognized as one of the 20th century’s greatest works of art. Lyric Opera of Chicago Director Anthony Freud, himself the child of a Holocaust survivor, recounts his role in bringing this masterpiece to America’s stages. Joining him is Andrew Patner of 98.7 WFMT and the Chicago Sun-Times. This program is presented in partnership with 98.7 WFMT. This program was recorded on November 7, 2014 as part of the 25th Anniversary Chicago Humanities Festival, Journeys: http://chf.to/2014Journeys See upcoming CHF eve...
