Gordon Bennett 2011 Air Race - Mamont Vodka Team: David Hempleman Adams and Simon Carey
Dating back over 100 years, the Gordon Bennett 2011 race is the premier gas balloon distance race, and attracts some of the most experienced and distinguished pilots from around the world. This legendary race is often compared to the America's Cup Yacht Race for the endurance necessary to compete and win. While the mission of the race is simple, executing the mission is anything but easy. The winning team is the one that flies the furthest distance from the launch site. Physical resistance, mental strength, strong moral and incredible knowledge of winds and weather are the keys to taking home the cup. David (www.coldclimates.co.uk) is world famous as the first person to complete the Explorer's Grand Slam, a challenge which has seen him conquer the North and South Magnetic and Geographic Poles and scale the highest mountain in each of the seven continents, including Everest. He is the only person to fly a balloon to the North Pole. He also completed two Transatlantic balloon flights solo in an open wicker basket. He currently holds 46 FAI World Aviation Records. (www.fai.org) Simon Carey was born in York in 1965, and as an Airforce kid, grew up moving every few years, although finally settling in Dorset for the remainder of his childhood. As the son of an RAF fighter pilot, Simon naturally became an aviation addict. He begun his career as an agricultural pilot in East Africa then moved on to flying corporate Jets in the USA and UK, he now works as a Captain for a Long haul ...

Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race David Hempleman-Adams control room
This is from the David Hempleman-Adams and Simon Carey Control Room at the Gordon Bennett gas balloon race. You see Clive (Flight DIrector) and Jo Bailey and some of the team in the control room. It's a very exciting event and we will put up more video of the event. 20 hydrogen gas filled balloons took off from Bristol UK on Saturday 25th September 2010. We're supporting the GB team. Obviously this was uploaded before tragedy struck one of the US teams. We were very sorry to hear of the loss.

2010 Part 1 Race Build Up Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race GB2010 UK
The Gordon Bennett endurance race is one of the most prestigious aeronautical races in the world. In 2008 David Hempleman-Adams and Jon Mason won the race and thus the hosting and launch of the race in 2010 was from Great Britain. Our film of the event is in 5 parts and gives you a look behind the scenes with the highs and lows of the GB3 team of David Hempleman-Adams and Simon Carey as we follow their journey across Europe in their balloon Lady Luck. Here we have the preparation and build up - it is a count down to launch day. Don't forget to follow on to part 2. We have to thank the BBC for supplying some footage, ITN for using some of our footage in their tv news programmes and Clive Bailey and Don Cameron for supporting the film.

The North Pole, Arctic Exploration Documentary
This is a video of a North Pole expedition I led with the help of Adventurers David Hempleman-Adams and Rune Gjeldnes, Geoffrey's care worker Bruce Merritt, Neill and Ashley Williams and 3 others, our aim was to help the first disabled person to reach the North Magnetic Pole in 1999. It was filmed by Keith Wotton of Central TV and won a motivational Video of the year in Arizona USA Geoffrey McGonagle achieved his North Pole goal and was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, although sadly he did not make the book its self. Geoff was also awarded a certificate by the Resolute Bay detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounties, whilst at the North Pole Sadly Geoff died on December 13th 2008. He will always be remembered as an inspiration.

The Mitchemp Trust
The Mitchemp Trust is a registered youth development charity working with vulnerable young people aged 11 to 14 years old from across Wiltshire and Swindon. The Trust was established in 1992 by David Hempleman-Adams and Major Richard Mitchell, both well known for their record breaking Arctic, Antarctic and mountain climbing expeditions. They agreed that early experiences in challenging themselves through the outdoors had shown them that they could achieve more than they thought. This idea led to the realisation that many young people, for a variety of reasons, often do not have the opportunity to start the 'believe -- achieve' process and make the most of their lives. www.mitchemptrust.org.uk

Teenager takes Olympic torch on Ferris wheel 443 feet above London - Eye Ferris (my response)
(my response) Amelia Hempleman-Adams is famous for traveling to the bottom of the world -- as in the South Pole, where the then-16-year-old British skier became the youngest person to ski there in Dec. 2011. But during the final stages of the Summer Olympic torch relay in London on Sunday morning, she offered one of its most memorable images thus far: Ascending to the top of the London Eye Ferris wheel, 443 feet above the city. The stunt was suggested to the teenager, who told the BBC: "I decided to see what I'd have to do, thought about it and decided to do it. It was amazing to look out and see the whole of London." Amelia, who has tickets for the athletics and diving events, added: "The height was quite scary but you know you're safe so it's not too bad. It was a once in a lifetime experience, especially as the Olympics are in London. It makes it more special." Among the other torch bearers on Sunday: Boxing champ Lennox Lewis and Britain's Got Talent-winning street dance troupe Diversity, which "will carry the flame on to the stage at the Dagenham Town Show." This is my response to the video of a teen girl who took the olympic torch on top of a ferris wheel in London. She was standing on top of the world famous eye of London Ferris Wheel. Note: This is a response video. I very clearly indicated in the title that this is my response to the topic. I am following all the rules in the YouTube community guidelines. Toshiba Transatlantic Challenge
One of the world's leading explorers, David Hempleman-Adams, today announces his World Record breaking transatlantic flight today, for a helium balloon of this size, in a highly dangerous expedition to cross the northern Atlantic in the smallest gas-balloon ever to attempt this flight. In July, Hempleman-Adams, the first man to fly to the North Pole in a balloon, will be piloting a small gas balloon, no bigger than most people's front rooms, from St John's, Newfoundland, Canada, to Europe. This will be a new FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) world record in distance. He will be flying in an open wicker basket, no bigger than a coffee table, open to the elements. He will endure extreme low temperatures down to minus 20 with the danger of landing in the North Atlantic. The 3425 km journey could take four days, depending on weather conditions, which will cause sleep deprivation and extreme fatigue. This flight has a zero carbon footprint, the most basic form of flight. The helium is an inert natural gas and the ballast, or fuel, is sand which will be thrown out to fly the balloon. more info on www.toshibachallenge.com
