Blythe Duff (born 25 November 1962) is a Scottish actress best known for her role as Jackie Reid in the ITV television series drama, Taggart.
Duff was born and raised in East Kilbride, Glasgow. Her love of acting started with youth theatre. On leaving Hunter High School she joined The Company, a youth opportunities theatre company, based at the Glasgow Arts Centre in Washington Street and spent her summers with the Scottish Youth Theatre. She entered the profession in 1983 with her first job at the Young Playwrights Festival (Scottish Youth Theatre/The Traverse).
Duff's career began in the theatre, starting with the Scottish Youth and Community Theatre in Glasgow.
She worked in theatre for seven years, appearing with Scottish Opera in Street Scene as Shirley Kaplan in 1989, and at the Coliseum Theatre in London with the English National Opera. She also performed on the soundtrack album which was released on Decca Records in 1989. She was working for Scottish Opera when she landed the role of Jackie Reid in the sixth series of Taggart in 1990. Her first appearance was a community police officer in the second episode of the sixth series, "Death Comes Softly", on 3 December 1990, in which she is credited as playing WPC Reid. In the third episode, which first aired on 31 December 1990, she was credited as playing Jackie Reid and her character was seconded to CID as DC Reid. By series eight in 1993 her character was promoted to Detective Sergeant. She became the longest-serving member of the Taggart cast after James Macpherson left the show in 2002. The last Taggart was shown in 2011, seeing Jackie Reid finally reach Detective Inspector.
Duff may refer to:
Blythe is a name that comes from Middle English, and in turn from Old English bliþe ("joyous, kind, cheerful, pleasant"), and further back, from Proto-Germanic *blithiz ("gentle, kind"). Its cognates include Old Saxon bliði ("bright, happy"), Middle Dutch blide, Dutch blijde, Old Norse bliðr ("mild, gentle"), Old High German blidi ("gay, friendly") and Gothic bleiþs ("kind, friendly, merciful"). No cognates outside the Germanic languages are known.
Fiction writing is the composition of non-factual texts. Fictional writing often is produced as a story meant to entertain or convey an author's point of view. The result of this may be a short story, novel, novella, screenplay, or drama, which are all types (though not the only types) of fictional writing styles. Different types of authors practice fictional writing, including novelists, playwrights, short story writers, dramatists and screenwriters.
Genre Fiction
A Genre is the subject matter, or category in which a writer would base their work on. For instance Science Fiction, Fantasy and Mystery are considered genre fiction. In fiction, genre writing is the act of a storytelling driven by plot. As opposed to literary fiction that focuses on themes rather than plot, genre fiction, also known as popular fiction, is made to appeal to a large group of people and primarily sells more for it is more commercialized to the general public. An example to further elaborate, The Twilight series may sell more than a novel by Herman Melville, such as Moby Dick, because the Twilight novel deals with pop culture such as romance and vampires, which are in high regards of young readers, who outnumber older readers who would find Moby Dick more to their liking.

These two are in the running for my OTP. I love this show, and I love this pairing. Jackie Reid (Blythe Duff) and Robbie Ross (John Michie)! Little (rather rushed) tribute to their kind of 'will they/won't they' style relationship! What I always loved was that there was an obvious attraction, but it never bothered them that they weren't together because they were such good friends! Please tell me what you think. The class 47 or Brush Type 4 are arguably the diesel successor to the class 25 that took over for Black 5 as the main mix traffic engine. These could be seen on anything from overnight's to MGR's, there a common sight on and off the mainline and have survived well into the modern era even with their past reputation for being mechanically un-reliable hence the 'duff' nickname.
