In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Avon Foundation for Women launches a powerful new call to action - #CheckYourself - featuring the release of this exciting new music video created with and led by acclaimed singer, songwriter and chorographer Paula Abdul. #CheckYourself aims to cut to cut through the confusion related to screening strategies and encourages women to take control of their own breast health with three simple steps: Know Your Risks. Know Your Body. Talk To Your Doctor. #CheckYourself is the latest step in the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, which raises funds and awareness for critical research and access to care programs.
The key to prevention is knowing how to protect yourself, and early detection remains incredibly important. Women should be aware of their family’s health history, perform routine self-exams and visit a doctor annually. Women over 40 should have a mammogram performed by their doctor.
“Singing and dancing are my passions. I am thrilled and inspired to have had the opportunity to apply these passions to create a new music video in support of the breast cancer awareness cause, and the new global #CheckYourself for Breast Cancer campaign is very personal for me,” said Paula Abdul, acclaimed singer, songwriter, choreographer, and Avon Global Ambassador. “My sister Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000. As a breast cancer survivor and champion for the cause, she inspires me every day. My hope is that this new video will inspire women and men to take charge of their own breast health through screening, detection, and treatment.”

Paula Abdul
Paula Julie Abdul (/ˈæbduːl/; born June 19, 1962) is an American singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, actress and television personality. She is a dual citizen of the United States and Canada. She began her career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers at the age of 18 before rising to prominence in the 1980s as a highly sought-after choreographer at the height of the music video era. Abdul later scored a string of pop music hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Her six number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 tie her with Diana Ross for seventh among the female solo performers who have topped the chart. She won a Grammy for "Best Music Video – Short Form" for "Opposites Attract" and twice won the "Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography".
After her initial period of success, Abdul suffered a series of setbacks in her professional and personal life. She saw renewed fame and success as an original judge on American Idol in the 2000s, which she left after the eighth season. She went on to star on CBS's short-lived television series Live to Dance, which lasted one season in 2011, and was subsequently a judge on the first season of the American version of The X Factor along with her former American Idol co-judge Simon Cowell, the creator and producer of the show. She was also a guest judge on the All-Stars edition of Dancing with the Stars in 2012 and the tenth season of So You Think You Can Dance in 2013, and more recently became a permanent judge for that series along with the Australian version of the show for its 2014 revival.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Avon Foundation for Women launches a powerful new call to action - #CheckYourself - featuring the release of this exciting new music video created with and led by acclaimed singer, songwriter and chorographer Paula Abdul. #CheckYourself aims to cut to cut through the confusion related to screening strategies and encourages women to take control of their own breast health with three simple steps: Know Your Risks. Know Your Body. Talk To Your Doctor. #CheckYourself is the latest step in the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, which raises funds and awareness for critical research and access to care programs.
The key to prevention is knowing how to protect yourself, and early detection remains incredibly important. Women should be aware of their family’s health history, perform routine self-exams and visit a doctor annually. Women over 40 should have a mammogram performed by their doctor.
“Singing and dancing are my passions. I am thrilled and inspired to have had the opportunity to apply these passions to create a new music video in support of the breast cancer awareness cause, and the new global #CheckYourself for Breast Cancer campaign is very personal for me,” said Paula Abdul, acclaimed singer, songwriter, choreographer, and Avon Global Ambassador. “My sister Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000. As a breast cancer survivor and champion for the cause, she inspires me every day. My hope is that this new video will inspire women and men to take charge of their own breast health through screening, detection, and treatment.”

Paula Julie Abdul , born June 19, 1962, is an American singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, actress and television personality.
In the 1980s, Abdul rose from cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers to highly sought-after choreographer at the height of the music video era before scoring a string of pop music-R&B; hits in the late-1980s and early-1990s. Her six number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 tie her for fifth among the female solo performers who have reached #1 there.[3] She won a Grammy for "Best Music Video -- Short Form" for "Opposites Attract" and twice won the "Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography".
After her initial period of success, she suffered a series of setbacks in her professional and personal life, until she found renewed fame and success in the 2000s (decade) as a judge on the television series, American Idol, for eight years, before departing from the show. Abdul had moved on to another television series, CBS's Live to Dance, which debuted in January 2011. The series has since been canceled. Following her judging role in Live to Dance, Abdul moved to the first season of American version of The X Factor with her former American Idol co-judge Simon Cowell which premiered on September 21, 2011
