Plot: Serial killer Wayne Montgomery was inadvertently "outed" in December 2006, after DNA evidence linked him and his wife Andrea to a series of brutal unsolved murders in the small town of Claymont, Delaware - as well as the disappearance of their own daughter Monica. However, Andrea was the only one arrested. Authorities were unable to locate Wayne, who had simply vanished. Countless hours of Wayne & Andrea's home footage, allegedly depicting several of these vicious acts being committed, had also vanished. Recently discovered footage recorded by Wayne in 2007 details his activities in the months following his wife's arrest - adjusting to his life as a fugitive...and beginning a sadistic, twisted relationship with a teenage male hustler named Jared, whom Wayne has selected to groom as a successor. However, things will soon become unraveled when outside influences threaten to destroy the foundation that Wayne has created for his young student.

Plot: Wayne Montgomery was Delaware's most prolific serial killer. From 1986-1989, he was responsible for the deaths of countless people, while maintaining a quiet suburban life with his wife Andrea. In 1989, he took an extended hiatus from his work to settle down and help raise a family. In 2006, Wayne decided to come out of retirement to continue his life's work, with Andrea now joining him in his craft. The grisly details of Wayne and Andrea's horrific crimes were captured by Wayne's video camera, a sick, twisted way to relive the experience again and again. Hundreds of hours of shocking footage shot over a period of several months have been edited into a feature length film, with cooperation from the victims' families. This footage is now being presented as the feature film HEAD CASE. From award-winning filmmaker Anthony Spadaccini.

Mitchell is fascinated with this Harvard grad and writes a 1942 piece about him, "Professor Seagull," bringing Gould some celebrity and an invitation to join the Greenwich Village Ravens, a poetry club he's often crashed. Gould's touchy, querulous personality and his frequent dropping in on Mitchell for hours of chat lead to a breakup, but the two Joes stay in touch until Gould's death and Mitchell's unveiling of the secret.

Quotes:
Joe Gould: In the winter, I'm a Buddhist; in the summer, I'm a nudist!
Joe Gould: Only the artist is free, Joe. Because he is single of purpose. He knows what he wants and wants only that. But this, frightens people, I don't know.
[first lines]::Joe Mitchell: In my home town, I never felt at home. In New York, New York City, in Greenwich Village, down among the cranks, and the misfits, and the one runners, and the has-beens, and the might-have-beens, and the would-bes, and the never-wills, and the God-knows-whats, I have always felt at home.
Joe Mitchell: You know that fellow who was in here the other day? The small, disheveled looking...::Harold Ross: That was you, Joe.
Joe Gould: So I supposed you're puzzled about me, Mr. Mitchell. If so the feeling's mutual. I've been puzzled about me, and have been since childhood. Did you ever have a painful operation or disease?
Joe Gould: When I am hungry I don't have any self respect!
Joe Gould: [looking at a sculpture] Is she your type?::Joe Mitchell: Parts of her.
Joe Gould: Edward Nagel called me a barbarian, because I didn't see a picture as a picture. It didn't mean anything to me. All I saw was the expression of the man who painted it. And Gaston LeChez agreed with me, saying art is essentially a means of self-expression, putting E. Nagel in his place.::Joe Mitchell: Well, that must have made you feel good.::Joe Gould: No, actually it made me feel bad. Because although our thoughts were the same, Gaston's and mine, his meant something, because he was who he was. Mine meant nothing, because because I was who I am.
Joe Gould: Take care of those composition books, Joe. The Oral History is my rope, my scaffold, my bed, my board, my wife, my floozy, my wound and the salt on it. My whiskey, my aspirin, my rock, and my salvation.
Joe Gould: [for his book] Civilization brings distinctions of cast apart from individual attainment. Thus is developed the patrician and the peasant. Each has a different set of virtues, and both are needed for the complete sum of humanity. When you find a patrician without pride, or a peasant without avarice, you get very nearly the perfect person. In the eyes of the infinite, all pride is just dust and ashes.

Merrick who also co-wrote the screenplay and was the production manager), with the working title of "The Amazing Exploits of the Clutching Hand" but the actual release title on the film and all the printed material related to it was "The Clutching Hand", was loosely based on a novel by "Craig Kennedy" creator Arthur B. Reeve, and was also released as a feature in addition to the 15 chapter serial, both of which were originally distributed by Stage and Screen Productions, Inc. In Chapter 1, ("Who is the Clutching Hand?"), Doctor Paul Gironda announces he has discovered a formula for the manufacture of synthetic gold. The International Research Foundation agrees to financially help him develop his formula. Just before the Board of Directors arrive at Gironda's laboratory to witness his achievement, he is heard screaming, and mysteriously disappears before help arrives. Newspaper reporter Walter Jameson, who is engaged to Gironda's daughter Verna, calls in investigator Craig Kennedy. Kennedy and Jameson face many perils and cliffhangers, including chapter 8 ("A Cry in the Night") when Gironda's kidnappers use television to show Gironda as still alive and the unseen "Clutching Hand" orders Kennedy to quit the case. The latter finally finds Gironda a prisoner aboard the freight ship, "The Nellie B", in chapter 13 ("The Mystic Menace")and rescues him. He instructs Jameson to return Gironda to his home, but Jameson's car is overtaken by agents of "The Clutching Hand" and the doctor is once again kidnapped. DLS • Joe Mitchell • Fun with Geometric Optimization: Visitation, Visibility, and Variations
Optimization problems that involve geometric data abound in everyday life. Classic examples include the traveling salesperson problem (TSP), the "art gallery" visibility coverage problem, and searching in a geometric domain. We survey a small subset of such problems, examine some models of geometric optimization in the face of uncertainty, and describe some approximation algorithms for their solution. Optimization problems that involve geometric data abound in everyday life. Many of these problems are NP-hard but have good approximation algorithms that exploit geometric structure. A particular challenge is to address optimization problems when there is uncertainty in the input data.
We survey a small subset of such problems, examine some models of geometric optimization in the face of uncertainty, and describe some approximation algorithms for their solution. One example problem we discuss is the "adversarial TSP" problem in which the goal is to determine the order in which to visit a set of "uncertainty regions," each of which has a specific point site that must be visited, but an adversary gets to pick the (worst possible) location of the site within each uncertainty region, after we have announced the order in which we will visit the sites/regions.

Joe Mitchell is a leader in computational geometry, which studies the design, analysis, and implementation of efficient algorithms to solve geometric problems. His particular interest is applications to problems in computer graphics, visualization, robotics, manufacturing, geographic information systems, and computer vision. A major current application is helping air traffic controllers route airplanes around bad weather.
