A sólo una hora de Madrid en avión tenemos una de las ciudades más bellas y luminosas de Europa: Oporto, con sus edificios entre majestuosos y decadentes, consigue como ningún otro lugar que la nostalgia sea bella.
La Avenida de los Aliados es nuestro punto de partida junto a Miguel. Esta gran vía comunica las partes antigua y moderna de la ciudad con sus bellos edificios modernistas. Entre ellos, la espectacular librería Lello, considerada la más bonita del mundo.
La decoración por excelencia de los edificios de Oporto es el azulejo. Visitamos la estación de San Bento, la Capilla de las Almas o la iglesia de San Ildefonso, algunos de los mejores ejemplos.
La Torre de los Clérigos, sobre la iglesia del mismo nombre, domina el Cerro de los Ahorcados y ofrece las mejores vistas sobre el Oporto antiguo.
Oporto también es el río, nuestro Duero convertido en Douro en la parte portuguesa, y el mar. La Playa de Esphino, al sur de la ciudad, está a sólo 10 kilómetros del centro. Otra es Matosinhos, donde encontramos a Pilar, que nos muestra el Ciimar, el centro de investigación marina y medioambiental.
INTERIORES SORPRENDENTES Y UNA COPA DE OPORTO
Visitamos el céntrico y popular Mercado do Bolhao, nos tomamos un típico pastel de bacalao y conocemos Vista Alegre, una de las firmas de porcelana portuguesa más prestigiosas. Pero Oporto no es sólo calles y adoquines. Los Jardines del Palacio de Cristal son uno de sus pulmones.
La Ribera del Duero, con parte de la antigua muralla, es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. La conocemos con David y su familia y recorremos el barrio de la Victoria en los populares tuk tuk, que acaban de llegar también a Madrid como forma de transporte para turistas.
El interior de los edificios de Oporto sorprende siempre al visitante. Entramos en el impresionante Palacio de la Bolsa, del siglo XIX, y en la iglesia de San Francisco, la más antigua de la ciudad, cuyo interior está recubierto con más de 400 kilos de oro.
No puede faltar tampoco una visita a una de las grandes bodegas portuenses para conocer la elaboración del conocido vino al que la ciudad da nombre. En la cercana localidad de Vila Nova de Gaia se encuentran las principales, como Graham's, fundada en 1820.
AVEIRO Y COIMBRA
Salimos de Oporto y conocemos algunos de los lugares más turísticos de los alrededores. Quedamos con Alejandro en Aveiro, la capital modernista del país, cuyos canales la convierten en "la Venecia portuguesa". En Costa Nova, una de sus zonas de playas, descubrimos los palheiros, características casitas de colores.
Coimbra es otra de las joyas portuguesas. Antigua capital medieval, recorremos con Ana el Puente de Santa Clara y la enorme escalinata llamada Quebracostas, que comunica la parte baja de la ciudad con la Universidad, la más antigua de Portugal.
Nos endulzamos en Briosa, una de las pastelerías clásicas del país, y descubrimos dos de sus importantes industrias: la conservera de productos gourmet y la de corcho.
Y también los niños pueden encontrar diversión en un viaje a Coimbra. Aquí les espera Portugal dos Pequenitos, un parque temático de casitas portuguesas en miniatura. Por último, visitamos la Quinta das Lágrimas, un romántico palacio convertido hoy en hotel de lujo.

Cuando estéis paseando por Oporto pronto sabréis que estáis en Portugal. Lo descubriréis por sus tranvías, por sus edificios forrados de azulejos y por la vida apacible de su gente.
Por supuesto que esta ciudad tiene sus grandes monumentos como la Catedral del siglo 13, la Torre de los Clérigos del siglo 18, la famosísima librería Lello, y por supuesto la obligada visita a una bodega del famoso vino de Oporto.
Pero aviso importante, que estos grandes monumentos no os impidan ver la verdadera belleza de esta ciudad porque esta belleza está en el conjunto de su urbanismo, un mosaico de colores que sólo encontraremos en Oporto.
When you are walking through Porto, soon you will know that you are in Portugal. You will discover it for its trams, for its tile-covered buildings and for the peaceful life of its people.
Of course this city has great monuments like the Cathedral from the 13th century, the Tower of the Clerigos of the 18th century, the very famous Lello bookstore, and of course the mandatory visit to a famous wine cellar of Porto.
But important notice, these great monuments don't have to prevent you to see the true beauty of this city, because this beauty is in its town planning, a mosaic of colors that are only to be find in Oporto.

¿Te apetece conocer Oporto? Oporto es una de las ciudades más bonitas de Portugal y me atrevería a decir que una de las más bonitas de Europa aunque, por alguna razón, incluso siendo relativamente barata, no suele ser uno de los principales destinos turísiticos de Europa.
El tamaño de Oporto es reducido así que se puede hacer una visita bastante completa en un dos días e, incluso, en un día y medio.
Acompañanos a Oporto y te contaremos qué ver, cuales son las principales atracciones turísiticas de Oporto, que hacer (¿vale la pena visitar una bodega de Oporto?) y donde comer y donde no debes comer en ninguna circunstancia. 2 Chicken Breast Fillets
1-2 cups bread crumbs
salt/pepper
sesame burger buns
oporto sauce (either my recipe or you can buy from oporto)
2 tbsp Mayonnaise
2 slices cheddar cheese
Cos or Iceberg Lettuce
Slice chicken breast fillets into thirds, then marinade with salt/pepper, then dip into bread crumbs, fry on a miedum heat. Toast burger bun, spread mayo on both sides, then cheese on both sides, then add chopped lettuce, chicken and oporto sauce. SERVE!

Oporto is an Australian fast food restaurant franchise with a Portuguese-theme. Oporto specialises in Portuguese style chicken.
Oporto has more than 100 'eat in' or 'take-away' restaurants in Australia, New Zealand, India, the United States, and the United Kingdom, although a large majority of these are located in New South Wales, Australia, where the company is headquartered. It previously also operated stores throughout China.
The first Oporto restaurant was founded in 1986 by António Cerqueira, an Australian of Portuguese descent, in North Bondi, New South Wales, Australia but was originally named Portuguese Style Bondi Charcoal Chicken. The 'Oporto' name came from Porto, Portugal's second largest city.
Oporto first opened a franchise store in 1995 and was named the fastest growing franchise in Australia in January 2005 by Business Review Weekly.
In 2007 there were 100 locations in New South Wales, 14 in Queensland, 8 in Victoria, 5 in ACT, 5 in South Australia and 6 in New Zealand. Some of these restaurants are called Oporto Express and offer a smaller range of products – most commonly this means they do not offer a breakfast menu.
Oporto opened their first store in the United Kingdom at London's Victoria Station in January 2009, and opened their first restaurant in the United States in Rancho Cucamonga, California on 25 February 2011. There are now over 100 stores in operation in the world (currently in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States). Oporto has three types of Oporto store types; Drive Thru, Shopping Centre and Strip stores.
In July 2007, Quadrant Private Equity and Quick Service Restaurant Holdings (which owns Red Rooster and Chicken Treat) purchased Oporto.
In June 2011, Archer Capital acquired Quick Service Restaurant Holdings from Quadrant Private Equity for an estimated $450 million (including Red Rooster and Chicken Treat).
On 26 March 2012 Oporto ceased trading in China, closing its three outlets.
In 2013, Oporto opened their first restaurant in Western Australia in South Perth on the Corner Canning Hwy & Berwick St. Oporto has since increased to over 8 stores in the region.

Oporto's chilli sauce is a Portuguese piri-piri sauce made from chilli, ginger, lemon and garlic. Oporto has a range of fast food items centering on its grilled chicken.

Porto (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu]), also known as Oporto in English, is the second-largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southwestern Europe. The urban area of Porto, which extends beyond the administrative limits of the city, has a population of 1.4 million (2011) in an area of 389 km2 (150 sq mi), making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. Toast burger bun, spread mayo on both sides, then cheese on both sides, then add chopped lettuce, chicken and oporto sauce. SERVE! -

Oporto specialises in Portuguese style chicken. Oporto has more than 100 'eat in' or 'take-away' restaurants in Australia, New Zealand, India, the United States, and the United Kingdom, although a large majority of these are located in New South Wales, Australia, where the company is headquartered. It previously also operated stores throughout China. The first Oporto restaurant was founded in 1986 by António Cerqueira, an Australian of Portuguese descent, in North Bondi, New South Wales, Australia but was originally named Portuguese Style Bondi Charcoal Chicken. The 'Oporto' name came from Porto, Portugal's second largest city. Oporto first opened a franchise store in 1995 and was named the fastest growing franchise in Australia in January 2005 by Business Review Weekly. In 2007 there were 100 locations in New South Wales, 14 in Queensland, 8 in Victoria, 5 in ACT, 5 in South Australia and 6 in New Zealand. Some of these restaurants are called Oporto Express and offer a smaller range of products – most commonly this means they do not offer a breakfast menu. Oporto opened their first store in the United Kingdom at London's Victoria Station in January 2009, and opened their first restaurant in the United States in Rancho Cucamonga, California on 25 February 2011. There are now over 100 stores in operation in the world (currently in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States). Oporto has three types of Oporto store types; Drive Thru, Shopping Centre and Strip stores. In July 2007, Quadrant Private Equity and Quick Service Restaurant Holdings (which owns Red Rooster and Chicken Treat) purchased Oporto. In June 2011, Archer Capital acquired Quick Service Restaurant Holdings from Quadrant Private Equity for an estimated $450 million (including Red Rooster and Chicken Treat). On 26 March 2012 Oporto ceased trading in China, closing its three outlets. In 2013, Oporto opened their first restaurant in Western Australia in South Perth on the Corner Canning Hwy & Berwick St. Oporto has since increased to over 8 stores in the region. Oporto también es el río, nuestro Duero convertido en Douro en la parte portuguesa, y el mar. La Playa de Esphino, al sur de la ciudad, está a sólo 10 kilómetros del centro. Otra es Matosinhos, donde encontramos a Pilar, que nos muestra el Ciimar, el centro de investigación marina y medioambiental.
INTERIORES SORPRENDENTES Y UNA COPA DE OPORTO
Visitamos el céntrico y popular Mercado do Bolhao, nos tomamos un típico pastel de bacalao y conocemos Vista Alegre, una de las firmas de porcelana portuguesa más prestigiosas. Pero Oporto no es sólo calles y adoquines. Los Jardines del Palacio de Cristal son uno de sus pulmones.
La Ribera del Duero, con parte de la antigua muralla, es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. La conocemos con David y su familia y recorremos el barrio de la Victoria en los populares tuk tuk, que acaban de llegar también a Madrid como forma de transporte para turistas.
El interior de los edificios de Oporto sorprende siempre al visitante. Entramos en el impresionante Palacio de la Bolsa, del siglo XIX, y en la iglesia de San Francisco, la más antigua de la ciudad, cuyo interior está recubierto con más de 400 kilos de oro.
No puede faltar tampoco una visita a una de las grandes bodegas portuenses para conocer la elaboración del conocido vino al que la ciudad da nombre. En la cercana localidad de Vila Nova de Gaia se encuentran las principales, como Graham's, fundada en 1820.
AVEIRO Y COIMBRA
Salimos de Oporto y conocemos algunos de los lugares más turísticos de los alrededores. Quedamos con Alejandro en Aveiro, la capital modernista del país, cuyos canales la convierten en "la Venecia portuguesa". En Costa Nova, una de sus zonas de playas, descubrimos los palheiros, características casitas de colores.
Coimbra es otra de las joyas portuguesas. Antigua capital medieval, recorremos con Ana el Puente de Santa Clara y la enorme escalinata llamada Quebracostas, que comunica la parte baja de la ciudad con la Universidad, la más antigua de Portugal.
Nos endulzamos en Briosa, una de las pastelerías clásicas del país, y descubrimos dos de sus importantes industrias: la conservera de productos gourmet y la de corcho.
Y también los niños pueden encontrar diversión en un viaje a Coimbra. Aquí les espera Portugal dos Pequenitos, un parque temático de casitas portuguesas en miniatura. Por último, visitamos la Quinta das Lágrimas, un romántico palacio convertido hoy en hotel de lujo.

2 Chicken Breast Fillets
1-2 cups bread crumbs
salt/pepper
sesame burger buns
oporto sauce (either my recipe or you can buy from oporto)
2 tbsp Mayonnaise
2 slices cheddar cheese
Cos or Iceberg Lettuce
Slice chicken breast fillets into thirds, then marinade with salt/pepper, then dip into bread crumbs, fry on a miedum heat. Toast burger bun, spread mayo on both sides, then cheese on both sides, then add chopped lettuce, chicken and oporto sauce. SERVE!

On 26 March 2012 Oporto ceased trading in China, closing its three outlets.

Solo Travel in Porto, Portugal!
I spent 3 days in the beautiful Northern city of Porto in Portugal where I visited the Livraria Lello bookstore which is said to be where J.K. Rowling used to come as she spent 10 years living in Porto. She used to sit upstairs and drink coffee in the cafe and is where she got a lot of the inspiration for Harry Potter, especially Dumbledores staircase. Outside the bookstore you'll find students from the nearby college wearing long black capes and a fountain of Griffins. I also spent a day exploring Espinho, a town about 30 minutes from Porto by train. Enjoy Sophie xx

Two hundred twenty-five steps lead to a stunning view across the picturesque old harbor town and its carpet of red rooftops that nestle against the city's hills.
Porto has one of the most beautiful markets in Europe that contains a large inner courtyard completely encircled by arcades.
The narrow, deep river valley of the Douro is spanned by 5 bridges of which the most impressive is the Ponte Dom Louis. The Frenchman, Gustave Eiffel, constructed the gigantic two level bridge that connects Porto with its sister town, Vila Nova De Gaia.
Five bridges connect the banks of the River Douro where 2 of them are monuments that date back to the Industrial Revolution. The river has always been the city's lifeline and a trading route to the whole world. The entire river valley was designated as a vine growing area because it is where the world famous port wine is grown.

We finish off our adventure in Algarve by cooking the region’s staple dish in the town of Faro!
Although cataplana is the name of the copper cookware famous in the Algarve region, it also lends its name to the dish. We wish to thank the staff at Tertulia Algarvia, and especially chef Margarida Vargues for taking the time to teach us this delicious dish. We highly recommend you pay them a visit if you are in Faro.
Alternatively, you can also try this dish at home, thanks to their generosity for passing on the recipe for our viewers! Check our blog for the recipe of the cataplana dish that we cooked in that episode.
We also stopped by some local hot spots in Faro such as Se7e Pedras wine bar for a glass of the famously crisp portuguese white wine called Vinho verde and Bottle bar for a smokey porto.

This is the making off for "When guest become host", exihibition at Porto Culturgest, our project is called "don't forget, is too late!"
The international architects collective Supersudaca proposed to realize a city guide of Porto in collaboration with local people. This guide presents a non-coherent and non-exhaustive catalogue of ‘100 places of Porto you will not see anymore, because they already disappeared’. instead of ‘The 100 places you have to see before you die’ nor ‘The 100 best spots in Porto 2010‘.
The publication is the result and compilation of three weeks of residence in Culturgest artspace in Porto, where Supersudaca installed a temporary office, organizing discussions, lectures and worksessions with a large group of local collaborators.
'Too late!’ brings together clippings of 100 places, events and rituals that have already disappeared from the (visible) city of Porto. The proposal is to ‘take a break’ and to resist, in a poetic way, the way cities are branded, sold and consumed as merely tourist products. The usual ‘must have seen’ lists include all the ‘official’ best places in the world named each year by Unesco, Tourist Councils, gigantic travel agencies, etc.
The city guide has a totally different thought behind it. Since all the places and/or events presented in the guide have already disappeared (it’s too late, you missed it!), there is no hurry anymore, no crowds anymore to go through to take a single picture. So you can visit the city of Porto when you want, or even just reading the guide. Do it in a relaxed way and take your time.

As part-owners of the LeCool franchise for our home city of Porto, we at Junta Digital have decided to promote a 6 episode web series of POV experiences in the city, which we've called "O Porto na 1ª Pessoa". This series was fully recorded and edited by Bernardo Pinto, a recently graduated student from Universidade Católica Portuguesa's "Escola das Artes", who's been with us in a trainee program and took this project as his own.
This video was shot on one of Porto's most interesting nightlife spots, Breyner 85, where we had the opportunity to check out one of their many concerts on a very "cosy" environment.
