James Addison Baker III (born April 28, 1930) is an American attorney, former governmental official and statesman.
Baker served as the White House Chief of Staff and in the Cabinets of two American presidents. During the Reagan administration he served as both Chief of Staff (1981-1985) and as Secretary of the Treasury (1985-1988), and in the George H. W. Bush administration, he served as Secretary of State (1989-1992) and as Chief of Staff (1992-1993). He is honorary chair of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
James Addison Baker was born in Houston at 1216 Bissonnet, to James A. Baker, Jr. (1892–1973) and Ethel Bonner (née Means) Baker (August 6, 1894 – April 26, 1991). His father was a partner of Houston law firm Baker Botts. Baker has a sister, Bonner Baker Moffitt.
Baker attended The Hill School, a boarding school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Princeton University in 1952. Afterwards, he earned a J.D. (1957) from The University of Texas at Austin, was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and began to practice law in Texas.
CBS This Morning is an American morning television program that is broadcast on CBS. The program, which shares its title with a more traditionally formatted morning program that aired on the network from 1987 to 1999, airs Monday through Saturdays from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. in all time zones (airing live in the Eastern Time Zone and on tape-delay in the Central and Mountain Time Zones; stations in the Pacific Time Zone receive an updated feed with a specialized opening and updated live reports). It is the tenth distinct morning news-features program format that CBS has aired since 1954, having replaced The Early Show on January 9, 2012.
The weekday edition of the program is currently anchored by Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell. The program emphasizes general national and international news stories and in-depth reports throughout each edition, although it also includes live in-studio and pre-taped interviews. The format was chosen as an alternative to the soft news and lifestyle-driven formats of competitors Today and Good Morning America following the first hour or half-hour of those broadcasts, in an attempt to give the program a competitive edge with its hard news format (CBS has historically placed third in the ratings among the network morning shows).
This Morning may refer to:
A baker is someone who makes, bakes and sells breads, rolls, biscuits or cookies, and/or crackers using an oven or other concentrated heat source. Cakes and similar foods may also be produced, as the traditional boundaries between what is produced by a baker as opposed to a pastry chef have blurred in recent decades. The place where a baker works is called a bakery.
The first group of people to bake bread were ancient Egyptians, around 8000 BC. During the Middle Ages, it was common for each landlord to have a bakery, which was actually a public oven; housewives would bring dough that they had prepared to the baker, who would tend the oven and bake them into bread. As time went on, bakers would also sell their own goods, and in that some bakers acted dishonestly, tricks emerged: for example, a baker might have trap door(s) in the oven or other obscured areas, that would allow a hidden small boy or other apprentice to take off some of the dough brought in for baking. Then the dishonest baker would sell bread made with the stolen dough as their own. This practice and others eventually lead to the famous regulation known as Assize of Bread and Ale, which prescribed harsh penalties for bakers that were found cheating their clients or customers. As a safeguard against cheating, under-filled orders, or any appearance of impropriety, bakers commonly began to throw in one more loaf of bread; this tradition now exists in the phrase "baker's dozen", which is 13.

Jan. 08, 2017 Baker Institute Honorary Chair James A. Baker, III, former Secretary of State, speaks to Fareed Zakaria about the issues facing the incoming Trump Administration.
This interview with James A Baker III is from today's Meet the Press, and it is extraordinary. Mr. Baker, Ronald Reagan's Treasury secretary and George HW Bush's Secretary of State and chief of staff. Mr. Baker's comments on the Iraq invasion are damning: ''Now people see why we didn't invade.' One has to keep in mind that former Secretary Baker was responsible for gathering together perhaps the mightiest coalition of forces the Middle East ever witnessed to oust Saddam from Kuwait in 1991. On top of that, other countries paid for the endeavor, and contributed 200,000 'boots on the ground.' Of course, the U.S. contributed 500,000. In any event, Baker's comments cannot be ignored. He has seen it all, and he understands the diplomacy and assertiveness necessary to get a coalition to work.

The LBJ Library had the rare opportunity to attend a sneak preview with a candid observer who has been close to power for thirty-five years. Once called "The Velvet Hammer" by Time magazine for his political skills, Baker took us inside the White House with Presidents Ford, Reagan, and Bush. Even though, the book is political in nature, Baker shared personal stories, anecdotes, lessons learned, and his impressions of the powerful men and women with whom he's worked. Baker shared his thoughts on the vote recount in Florida during the 2000 presidential election, Watergate, Vice President Dan Quayle, why President Reagan did not pick Ford as a running mate, and confusion inside the White House following the assassination attempt on President Reagan. This very personal memoir also describes Ba...
