This morning on This Week Rahm Emanuel didn't miss the opportunity to use Rep. Joe Barton's now-famous 'apology' to BP Oil (for which is has subsequently apologized) to hit back against the GOP as a whole. And by hit back I mean sucker punch to the gut. Here's what he told Jake Tapper: "That's not a political gaffe, those are prepared remarks. That is a philosophy. That is an approach to what they see. They see the aggrieved party here as BP, not the fishermen...They think that the government's the problem, and I think what Joe Barton did was remind the American people, in case they forgot, how the Republicans would govern." Well, not a lot of gray area there! Hard to hear that and not wonder if Barton's comment was the best thing that happened to the Obama administration since this whole catastrophe began — Barton (along with a yachting Hayward) merely provides them with one more way to paint themselves as the good guys here. Or the not bad guys. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin (erstwhile creator of the "death panels") took great umbrage to Rahm's remarks via her Twitter feed, though something tells me a Facebook note may not be that far behind.
