The Gold Coast Hinterland has a number of national parks. Springbrook National Park is set upon age old volcanic soil, with a plateau elevated 900 m above the landscape and interrupted by gorges. There are tracks of all intensities. Lamington National Park is all of 200 square kilometres, with 160 km of walking paths. Ambitious hikers can undertake the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk, which covers 54 km from the Green Mountains to the Springbrook Plateau.
Even in the Gold Coast Hinterland, youâll be able to see the ocean. Head to Canyon Lookout, which provides views all the way to Surfers Paradise. A 4 km track departs from the lookout, leading to Twin Falls.
The Springbrook Plateau boasts an ambitiously called Best of All Lookout, which lets visitors take in vistas of the plateauâs southern rim. Access to the lookout is by a 350 m footpath, winding its way past Antarctic beech trees, which are found nowhere else.

The Gold Coastâs hinterland is easily accessible from Brisbane, either by car or train. In fact, a train leaving from the Brisbane CBD will get you straight to Nerang. Driving to the hinterland from the state capital takes approximately an hour; the train will get you there in under 2 hours.
