French chef Alain Senderens, who rejected his Michelin stars and was acclaimed as a visionary, rebel and a force in the development of nouvelle cuisine, has died. He was 77.

Jerry Nelson, an astronomer who designed advanced telescopes that help scientists glimpse far reaches of the universe, has died in California. He was 73.

Dr Stuart Bruce Laing, B.SC, PHD, C.CHEM, MRIC, BA died on Sunday 4 June 2017, in Bedford hospital from the chemotherapy treatments after a four-year battle against the disease.

Tony DiCicco, who coached the United States to the 1999 World Cup title before a packed Rose Bowl in a landmark for women’s football, has died at 68.

The family of an American college student who died days after being released from North Korea in a coma says the 22-year-old “has completed his journey home”.

Stephen Furst, who played naive student Flounder in the hit movie Animal House, has died of complications from diabetes. Furst was 63.

Edinburgh born and raised, Frances Colquhoun was an artist in every sense of the word. She painted in oils, acrylic and water colour and exhibited and sold her work as a member of the Cambridge Drawing Society. She was a keen gardener and it was a joy to walk around a garden with her, either in her own small garden in Cambridge or in some of the most famous public gardens, as she had an eye for the structure and colour of plants and where they should go to complement one another. She loved horses and although she never rode or gambled she could pick a winner almost without fail by looking at the horses and how they behaved in the ring. The structure of the horse was something she understood.
