Lewis (Scottish Gaelic: Leòdhas, pronounced [ʎɔː.əs̪], also Isle of Lewis) is the northern part of Lewis and Harris, the largest island of the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides (an archipelago) of Scotland. The total area of Lewis is 683 square miles (1,770 km2).
Lewis is, in general, the lower lying part of the island, with the other part, Harris, being more mountainous. The flatter, more fertile land means Lewis contains the largest settlement, Stornoway, and three-quarters of the population of the Western Isles. Beyond human habitation, the island's diverse habitats are home to an assortment of flora and fauna, such as the golden eagle, red deer and seals and are recognised in a number of conservation areas.
Lewis is of Presbyterian tradition with a rich history, having once been part of the Norse Kingdom of Mann and the Isles. Today, life is very different from elsewhere in Scotland with Sabbath observance, the Gaelic language and peat cutting retaining more importance than elsewhere. Lewis has a rich cultural heritage as can be seen from its myths and legends as well as the local literary and musical traditions.

From 1991 to 1997 she was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and was also affiliated with the Beckman Institute
Promoted to associate professor in 1997 and to professor in 2003, Lewis became in 2007 director of UIUC's Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory. In 2013 she moved to Harvard University as Wyss Professor of Biologically Inspired Engineering in Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Lewis' laboratory works on the directed assembly of soft functional materials. This work involves microfluidics, materials synthesis, complex fluids, and robotic assembly to design functional materials. She develops novel materials that can find potential application as printed electronics, waveguides, and 3D scaffolds and microvascular architectures for cell culture and tissue engineering. Lewis is the author of more than 120 papers and holds 8 patents. Jennifer Louise you don't know me but we're cousins
your mamamama and my mamamama are sisters
Jennifer Louise I haven't seen you since I was a kid
when my family spent the weekend at your house
and your father helped when my eyelashes stuck together
My mom told me that now
you're a young professional
living with a significant someone
Jennifer Louise we know so little about each other
I'll probably never call you up,
write you a letter or see you in person
Basically Jennifer Louise you don't know me
and we're not friends
But I was just wondering about you
wondering if you ever think about me
