The Rape of the Samburu Women
THE RAPE OF THE SAMBURU WOMEN
For more than fifty years, England has maintained military training facilities in the Samburu region of its former colony, Kenya. During this period, women in the area have faced an epidemic of rape. Women from the Samburu, Massai, Rendile and Turkana indigenous communities have filed more than 600 official rape claims against British soldiers. Yet, despite documentation of their claims, a three-year internal investigation by the Royal Military Police (RMP) cleared all soldiers of wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the victims have been shamed and outcast in their communities, many to the point of exile. In the mid-1990s, Beatrice Chili responded to this situation by establishing the village of Senchen, a self-sufficient community run entirely by women. There, women build homes, weave textiles, gather and grow food, and raise children. This short film visits the brave women of Senchen, who speak candidly about their suffering and talk passionately about their demands for justice. Watch the film to hear their stories and to find out how you can offer your support.

Sarah Pickering on Public Order & Explosion series: Excerpt
In this edited excerpt, Sarah Pickering speaks about two series from her Aperture monograph: Public Order and Explosion. She introduces her first major photographic series, Public Order, which depicts the empty training sets at the Metropolitan Police Public Order Training Center in UK. Pickering describes how the "sense of latent violence" in the empty sets was much more "evocative" and powerful to her than trying to capture action shots. She also touches on the autobiographical aspect related to this series.
In Explosion, Pickering documents the tactical use of controlled explosions by the British military to add realistic stress to training exercises. When describing the motivation behind this series, Pickering explains how she started working on this while the demonstrations against the war in Iraq were happening in UK, and she was thinking of the soldiers' training scenarios. These spectacular yet tragic explosions also reference the tradition of landscape photography.
The full version of this talk is available on vimeo and on our multimedia section, divided in five different clips.
This conversation between photographer Sarah Pickering and independent writer, lecturer, and curator Susan Bright, took place March 31, 2010, on the occasion of the publication of Pickering's first monograph: Explosions, Fires and Public Order. This monograph brings together four of Sarah Pickering's photographic series which collectively present a visually arresting glimpse into the secret world of civil defense.
Sarah Pickering (born in Durham City, England, 1972) finished her MA in photography at the Royal College of Art in London in 2005. She is the recipient of several awards, including the Photographers' Gallery Graduate Award and a Jerwood Award. Pickering has exhibited internationally and in the UK where her work was part of How We Are: Photographing Britain, at Tate Britain co-curated by Susan Bright.
Susan Bright is well known internationally for her contributions to the photographic world as commentator, exhibition curator, and author. Previous posts include Assistant Curator of Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery, London; Curator at the Association of Photographers, London; and Acting Director for the MA photography course (Historic and Contemporary) at Sotheby's Institute, London. As an author, Bright is best known for Art Photography Now, published by Thames & Hudson and Aperture.

pakistan military police passing out course 99 part:1
The Pakistan Army Corps of Military Police (Urdu: ملڑى پولیس كور; Military Police Core, abbreviated as MP, is the active-duty uniformed and principle combatant staff Corps tasked with maintaining law enforcement within Pakistan Army.[1] Professional misconduct and criminal investigations are conducted by the Military Police investigators or the Corps of Military Intelligence (CMI), both are reported to the Judge Advocate General Branch. The MPs are the active members of the Pakistan Army who are professional trained to handle prisoners of war (POW) and to regulate military traffic system in the designated military districts, as well as to handle advanced military telecommunication equipment in their respected station military districts.[1] Formed by Royal Military Police in 1946, it was initially the part of the Corps of Military Police (Indian Army). The Military Police was established shortly after the establishment of Pakistan, when elements of active duty Corps of Military Police reached to Abbottabad Military District (AMC) and reported to Pakistan Military Academy on November 1947 as a separate entity.[1] Four Military Police units were formed immediately and were retained in service.[1] In February 1949, it was decided to expand the Military Police by establishing an Infantry School Quetta to impart training to officers, junior and non-commissioned officers and soldiers of Corps of Military Police.[1] In April 1954, the Corps of Military Police's headquarter was shifted from Quetta to its present location Dera Ismail Khan.[1] However in 1971, the commanding office of the Military Police was located at the General Combatant Headquarters at the Rawalpindi, Punjab Province.[1] As for its war capabilities, the Military police took participation in Indo-Pakistani wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999, and currently undertaking operations in West Pakistan.[1] The MP can be identified by their red berets, white lanyards and belts, and they also wear a white helmet (on duty performed on field) white brassard with the letters "MP" imprinted in red.[1] The term "red berets" is synonymous with the personnel of the elite Corps of Military Police (MP), since all ranks of this Corps adorn the exclusive red berets along with white belts to distinguish themselves from other Corps of Army.[1]- published: 27 Oct 2013
