Champaign (English /ˌʃæmˈpeɪn/) is a city in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The city is located 135 miles (217 km) south of Chicago, 124 miles (200 km) west of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 178 mi (286 km) northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. Champaign is notable for sharing the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with its sister city of Urbana. Champaign is also the home of Parkland College which serves about 18,000 students during the academic year. Due to the university and a number of well known technology startup companies, it is often referred to as the hub, or a significant landmark, of the Silicon Prairie. Champaign houses offices for Abbott, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Caterpillar, Deere & Company, Dow Chemical Company, IBM, State Farm, and Intel all of which are Fortune 500 companies, and for Sony.
The United States Census Bureau estimates the city was home to 84,513 people as of July 1, 2014. Champaign is the tenth-most populous city in Illinois, and the fourth-most populous city in the state outside of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 2013, Champaign was rated fifth best place in the United States for a healthy work-life balance.
Illinois (i/ˌɪlᵻˈnɔɪ/ IL-i-NOY) is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It is the 5th most populous state and 25th largest state in terms of land area, and is often noted as a microcosm of the entire country. With Chicago in the northeast, small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity in central and northern Illinois, and natural resources like coal, timber, and petroleum in the south, Illinois has a diverse economic base and is a major transportation hub. The Port of Chicago connects the state to other global ports from the Great Lakes, via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, via the Illinois River. For decades, O'Hare International Airport has been ranked as one of the world's busiest airports. Illinois has long had a reputation as a bellwether both in social and cultural terms and politics.
Although today the state's largest population center is around Chicago in the northern part of the state, the state's European population grew first in the west, with French Canadians who settled along the Mississippi River, and gave the area the name, Illinois. After the American Revolutionary War established the United States, American settlers began arriving from Kentucky in the 1810s via the Ohio River, and the population grew from south to north. In 1818, Illinois achieved statehood. After construction of the Erie Canal increased traffic and trade through the Great Lakes, Chicago was founded in the 1830s on the banks of the Chicago River, at one of the few natural harbors on southern Lake Michigan.John Deere's invention of the self-scouring steel plow turned Illinois' rich prairie into some of the world's most productive and valuable farmlands, attracting immigrant farmers from Germany and Sweden. Railroads carried immigrants to new homes, as well as being used to ship their commodity crops out to markets.
The Old 97's are an alternative country band from Dallas, Texas. Formed in 1993, they have since released ten studio albums, two full extended plays, shared split duty on another, and have one live album. Their most recent release is Most Messed Up. They are recognized as pioneers of the alt-country movement during the mid to late 1990s along with bands such as Uncle Tupelo, Drive-By Truckers, Whiskeytown, The Jayhawks, and The Bottle Rockets.
Initially a popular Dallas bar band, the Old 97's toured the country after releasing their first album, 1994's Hitchhike to Rhome and 1995's split EP release Stoned / Garage Sale with fellow Dallas band Funland on Idol Records. In Chicago, they caught the attention of Bloodshot Records and were signed to record their next album. 1995's Wreck Your Life brought them to the attention of Elektra Records, who hoped that alt-country could be a new post-grunge fad. Lead singer Rhett Miller, born in Austin, later lived in New York City and Los Angeles. Many of the band's songs include local Texas references, with New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago appearing as well.

Champaign Illinois gets his Vespa brakes taken cared of.
I do not own the rights to this song. From their 2010 Album The Grand Theater Vol. 1.
A bunch of random pictures set to the song "Champaign, Illinois" as sung by Carl Perkins. Co-written by Carl and Bob Dylan in 1969. Note: I realize that a number of these shots are of Urbana locations. I don't care. I don't have the time, or inclination, to go around and take enough pictures of Champaign only spots to fill 3 minutes. If this bothers you, feel free to make your own video. The only point of this was to get this badass song on the internet so people could know it exists.
To the tune of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row": a good song. All rights reserved to their respective parties.

Video taken near the intersection of Kirby Rd. and Staley Rd, facing south. I apologize for the shaky video, the adrenaline was definitely pumping, it's barely visible but it's there. This storm came seemingly out of nowhere, going from a typical spring thunderstorm to a tornado producing supercell in the matter of 30 minutes or so, and caused flooding and produced golf ball sized hail, the likes of which haven't been seen in the area for quite some time. The same storm went on to produce several more funnel clouds as it moved east, a few of which touched down and did minimal damage.

This was my 3rd stop on that November 92 tour, following UT through the Midwest. I remember 2 things about that day- it was SUPER foggy. Fog like this does not exist in California. It was amazing I found my way to a hotel. The second was that I ate at a Mongolian BBQ place for dinner where an old toothless man had a stick that he used to cook the food in front of me. The stick was half gone due to overuse- meaning that I (or someone) may have been eating splinters. Yum. This video sounds really good. I am a bit shocked that the stock mic in the TR-81 performed so well.

23 april 2010. Well, if it ends up being a sh*t show, you cannot say Doug Stahope didn’t warn you. The comedian, who has such diehard fans, they’ll probably follow him to the most remote parts of the country to see him. Beginning on Tuesday, September 17th Doug and comedian Junior Stopka are hitting the road, in markets that you might not know, hence the naming of the tour the “Sh*t Town Tour.”* It’s a bit reminiscent of Bill Hicks’ Flying Saucer Tour. Stanhope will hit 18 markets in total and set up a fun poll on his website allowing fans to vote on what town on the tour they believe to be the sh*ttiest of towns. What do they win? No clue. Toilet brush perhaps? In addition to it being the launch of his new tour. September 17th is the same day as the release of his new special, Beer Hal...
