(but set to HlGH Def if video text is blurry) (that's not the drugs, dude!).... ........STONER-PROG bands hate antiseptic rock music and think rock should be rarely "professional". (That's no fun!)..........CAN THEY SAVE ROCK FROM A CERTAIN DEATH? (They also think regular prog is way too antiseptic.) (But they stll love a lot of it. ) (MAGMA should be playing stadiums! EPIC! Shame on U2 and Metallica for never taking them on tour!) (Art-Rock, like art, should be FUN, not arduous.) (MATH rock should be arduous. Who has time to memorize all those notes?) "ARGUABLY THE BEST GENRE EVER, for its everything-artsy rule" , wrote a critic from The N0ISE (in boston)...... [Even clothes, makeup, hair, instruments, masks, and lights must be artsified!] BASED OUT OF NEW ENGLAND, Stoner Prog appears indeed to be the best genre ever, due to (ironically) high standards (no pun intended!) and (ironically) "Strict Rules" (from their "Manifiesto"), like: - you must never wear ordinary clothing. (NO FUN!) (And not artsy!) - you can't have a regular band name. (Also NO FUN.) - you can't have ordinary stage names. (DITTO.) - you can't have ordinary (undecorated) instruments. (DITTO.) - you must improvise on a razor's edge most of the time. (FUN!) .......and many more like that. SOME TRADEMARKS of Stoner-Prog are things like... - they prefer FRETLESS bass (for more melting and more danger!) - they prefer bass to be aggressive and not passive! (ALRIGHT!) - they prefer drums to be aggressive and busy! - they prefer electronic drumpads to big noisy drumkits! (Smart!) - they frown on ANY Time Signatures! (as long as everyone is in the same key and tempo, get crazy with those accents! Get elastic!) SONIC GAMES are also a trademark of Stoner-Prog. For instance..... to be in the genre you must do things like - make a fake-horror-soundtrack piece! - do a deconstruction of Stairway To Heaven! - do sequential improv contests! (ala Exquisite Corpse!) - make at least one a Capella piece! - make at least one all-drum piece! .....and many more! [Some really insane ones, like KC & THE 21st CENTURY SUNSHINE BAND: all disco covers of King Crimson songs!] But our favorite filmmaker, the incredible Frentatta Terrapa [she's born in Iran but raised in france!] is first going to make 3 more Chapters of the 'THIS IS STONER-PROG' CD (85 tracks in 80 minutes!), which isn't exactly easy to buy at your local Chain Store! She has absolutely no training of any kind making videos and is just experimenting and having fun, trying to make disorienting videos that she likes. We love love love her weird experimental videos!) (We hope someday to see her making gorgeous 2 hour music videos shown at your local movie theaters, so we can see her working with better cameras and gear, huge on the screen in the dark. She makes these videos in MINUTES, to our amazement. She improvises just like the bands all do. More elements of danger and thrill and problem solving!) (Some of her tricks baffle our mind, like during the Demonweed segment at 26:20 in! She told us it's just two elements: the back one is smoke she filmed off YouTube, and for the front layer she shot Demonweed's upside-down-pot-leaf logo using a $1 strobe (!) [she wants and Endorsement Deal with Dollar Tree, she jokes], and that's her secret weapon here, as it has THREE LEDs: red, yellow, and green. [Stoner-Prog's fave number is 3!] So, when she uses green-screen, the chroma-key window opens up like a noise gate for that split strobe second every 3 beats for the green strobe!) maybe subscribe, if you like weird music like this.
