Our experience enjoying the natural hot springs of the Goldmyer Hot Springs, and hiking to the springs, in the forests of the Cascade Mountains, Washington.
TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*Reservations are required. They take phone calls to reserve a spot. Here's the website with their reservation calendar: http://www.goldmyer.org/calendar.php?m=20
*Bring headlamps so you can stay late and hike back in the dark in order to have the whole place to yourself like we did.
*Clothing is optional- there will likely be naked people in close proximity, just fyi.
*The hike is a gradual and easy 4.5 miles which follows the logging road.
*The water is very nice with three pools: the lower water was around 90 degrees fahrenheit, the middle pool 104 degrees, and the upper pool/ cave water temp is 111 degrees.
*Bring a hand towel for taking pictures! We forgot one and it's tough to keep your hands and the lens clean with the heat of the water, and there always a high chance of rain in the Cascades.
*The drive in gets pretty difficult after the sharp right turn. A vehicle with good tires and off road capabilities is a must.

Old Smokey develops a bad temper in this volcanic disaster spectacle. MAMMOTH, WYOMING — A 23-year-old man who died in Yellowstone National Park last summer was reportedly trying to find a place to soak in the area’s natural hot springs.
Portland, Oregon graduate Colin Scott was killed on June 7 when his body dissolved in the boiling acidic waters of a hot spring in the Norris Geyser basin.
Yellowstone officials released the final incident report following a Freedom of Information Act request by NBC affiliate KULR.
Scott’s sister Sable filmed the whole thing on her cellphone, according to the report, but the video has not been released to the public.
An official said there are signs in the park that warn visitors not to fool around with its natural geothermal features. But the Scott siblings were allegedly trying to do just that, by looking for a place to take a dangerous dip, known as a “hot pot.”
Sable Scott filmed on her cellphone as her brother checked the water temperature, only to slip and fall into the churning hot spring.
Although rescue workers found Colin’s body, their efforts were disrupted by a lightning storm, and by the time they got back to the hot spring, the body had dissolved in the water.
No citations were issued in connection with the incident.
Hot spring-related injuries have claimed at least 22 lives in and around Yellowstone since 1890, the Washington Post reported, citing park officials.

Dante's Peak
Dante's Peak is a 1997 American dramatic disaster thriller film directed by Roger Donaldson. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Linda Hamilton, Charles Hallahan, Elizabeth Hoffman, Jamie Renée Smith, Jeremy Foley, and Grant Heslov. The movie was set in the fictional town of Dante's Peak wherein the town must survive the volcano's eruption and its dangers. It was released in February 7, 1997 under the production of Universal Pictures and Pacific Western.
Plot
Dr. Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan), a volcanologist of the United States Geological Survey, and his partner Marianne (Walker Brandt), are studying volcanic activity in Colombia when the volcano erupts. Marianne is killed by a volcanic bomb, leaving Harry remorseful about her death, believing it could have been prevented by evacuating sooner.
Four years later, Harry is assigned by his boss Dr. Paul Dreyfus (Charles Hallahan) to investigate seismic activity at Dante's Peak, Washington, a small town situated near a dormant stratovolcano in the Cascades. Harry arrives as the town is celebrating its founding, and meets the town's mayor, Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), and her two children Graham (Jeremy Foley) and Lauren (Jamie Renée Smith). Rachel offers to take Harry up the mountain to take readings while also visiting her former mother in-law Ruth (Elizabeth Hoffman). While near a hot springs, Harry stops the children when he sees dead wildlife near it, and they discover two dead bathers in the springs, boiled alive. Believing the excessive heat is a result of volcanic activity, Harry asks Paul to bring a team to study the mountain further. The team arrives with additional equipment, but they do not corroborate Harry's fears and suggest there is little concern. Regardless, Harry tries to convince Rachel to prepare the town for something drastic, while falling into a budding relationship with her.

Our experience enjoying the natural hot springs of the Goldmyer Hot Springs, and hiking to the springs, in the forests of the Cascade Mountains, Washington. TOP TRAVEL TIPS: *Reservations are required. They take phone calls to reserve a spot. MAMMOTH, WYOMING — A 23-year-old man who died in Yellowstone National Park last summer was reportedly trying to find a place to soak in the area’s natural hot springs. Portland, Oregon graduate Colin Scott was killed on June 7 when his body dissolved in the boiling acidic waters of a hot spring in the Norris Geyser basin. Yellowstone officials released the final incident report following a Freedom of Information Act request by NBC affiliate KULR. Scott’s sister Sable filmed the whole thing on her cellphone, according to the report, but the video has not been released to the public. An official said there are signs in the park that warn visitors not to fool around with its natural geothermal features. *Bring a hand towel for taking pictures! We forgot one and it's tough to keep your hands and the lens clean with the heat of the water, and there always a high chance of rain in the Cascades.
*The drive in gets pretty difficult after the sharp right turn. A vehicle with good tires and off road capabilities is a must.
*The driving directions in are also not very clear, but here's the driving route in:

MAMMOTH, WYOMING — A 23-year-old man who died in Yellowstone National Park last summer was reportedly trying to find a place to soak in the area’s natural hot springs.
Portland, Oregon graduate Colin Scott was killed on June 7 when his body dissolved in the boiling acidic waters of a hot spring in the Norris Geyser basin.
Yellowstone officials released the final incident report following a Freedom of Information Act request by NBC affiliate KULR.
Scott’s sister Sable filmed the whole thing on her cellphone, according to the report, but the video has not been released to the public.
An official said there are signs in the park that warn visitors not to fool around with its natural geothermal features. But the Scott siblings were allegedly trying to do just that, by looking for a place to take a dangerous dip, known as a “hot pot.”
Sable Scott filmed on her cellphone as her brother checked the water temperature, only to slip and fall into the churning hot spring.
Although rescue workers found Colin’s body, their efforts were disrupted by a lightning storm, and by the time they got back to the hot spring, the body had dissolved in the water.
No citations were issued in connection with the incident.
Hot spring-related injuries have claimed at least 22 lives in and around Yellowstone since 1890, the Washington Post reported, citing park officials.
