BeamNG.drive

BeamNG.drive is a vehicle simulation game which is being developed and published by the startup company BeamNG for Microsoft Windows. BeamNG.drive features unique soft-body physics.

Development

In late May 2012, BeamNG released a video on YouTube titled "Revolutionary soft-body physics in CryEngine3". Originally, BeamNG was to be based on the CryEngine3 rendering engine, but the implementation to the driving game filled it with bugs, leading development to be rolled over to the Torque 3D engine. BeamNG.drive relies heavily on coding in Lua. BeamNG.drive uses packets of local data using the Lua network system while the game is operating in order to complete the complex physics equations during game-play.

BeamNG started its website, beamng.com in August 2012 to begin rolling out news of their development of the simulator. Also with the release of the website came a public forum and a developer's blog. The community has grown exponentially to about 104,000 Members with about 15,000 Active Members since the start of the website (as of July 2015).

Furthest Thing

"Furthest Thing" is a song by Canadian rapper Drake, recorded for his studio album Nothing Was the Same. The track was written by Drake, Anthony Palman, Noah "40" Shebib, Marvin "Hagler" Thomas and Adrian Eccleston, and produced by 40, Thomas and Jake One. It reached number 191 in France, number 95 in the UK, and number 56 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Production and composition

"Furthest Thing" was written by Drake, Anthony Palman, Noah "40" Shebib, Marvin "Hagler" Thomas and Adrian Eccleston, with 40, Thomas and Jake One producing it. In addition to Drake's lead vocals, the original track includes Brian Hamilton, Deborah Vernal, Jennifer Tulloch, Omar Richards, Owen Lee, Patricia Shirley and Rachel Craig as backing vocalists.

Hubble eXtreme Deep Field

The Hubble eXtreme Deep Field (XDF) is an image of a small part of space in the center of the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field (HUDF) within the constellation Fornax, showing the deepest optical view in space. While the HUDF is 2.4 arcminutes to an edge, the XDF is 2.3 arcminutes by 2 arcminutes, or approximately 80% the area of the HUDF.

Released on September 25, 2012, the XDF image compiled 10 years of previous images and shows galaxies from 13.2 billion years ago. The exposure time was two million seconds, or approximately 23 days. The faintest galaxies are one ten-billionth the brightness of what the human eye can see. Many of the smaller galaxies are very young galaxies that eventually became major galaxies, like the Milky Way and other galaxies in our galactic neighborhood.

The Hubble eXtreme Deep Field adds another 5,500 galaxies to those discovered in the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field.

Wreckfest

Wreckfest (previously known by its working title Next Car Game and currently listed on Steam as Next Car Game: Wreckfest) is a racing video game in development by Bugbear Entertainment, creators of the well-known demolition derby-style racing series FlatOut. Wreckfest is described as the spiritual successor to the FlatOut series and a cross between FlatOut, Destruction Derby and cult 1989 PC racer Street Rod. A notable feature of the game engine is the use of soft-body damage modelling, which enables location-based damage that affects the driving dynamics of vehicles in a realistic fashion.

Gameplay

The final game is intended to include a variety of gameplay features, including traditional track racing and demolition derbies. The racing gameplay follows the same fundamental rules as most modern racing games, such as Need for Speed or Gran Turismo. The player controls a car in a race or demolition derby, the goal being to win the race or be the sole survivor of the derby respectively. Before participating in an event the player must choose a vehicle, select either manual or automatic transmission, and finally select either a dirt or tarmac track on which to race. Players will also be able to buy and sell vehicles, customise vehicles, and perform "research". The races themselves focus heavily on "vehicular combat" with the player having to find a balance between defensive tactics such as avoiding debris or opponents' vehicles and more aggressive tactics such as grinding against opponents and forcing them out of the way in order to overtake them or avoid harm. While Next Car Game's focus on physics and vehicular damage is similar to previous destruction-based racing games such as Criterion's Burnout, it follows a somewhat slower and more strategic approach, resulting in a more traditional racing gameplay experience than in comparable games.
