TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences run by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan "Ideas Worth Spreading". The emphasis is on the entertainment aspect. TED was founded in 1984 as a one-off event; the annual conference series began in 1990. TED's early emphasis was technology and design, consistent with its Silicon Valley origins, but it has since broadened its focus to include talks on many scientific, cultural, and academic topics.
The main TED conference is held annually in Vancouver, Canada, and its companion TEDActive is held in Whistler, British Columbia. Prior to 2014, the two conferences were held in Long Beach and Palm Springs, California, respectively. TED events are also held throughout North America and in Europe and Asia, offering live streaming of the talks. They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. The speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways they can. Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Billy Graham, Richard Dawkins, Richard Stallman, Bill Gates, Bono, Mike Rowe, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and many Nobel Prize winners. TED's current curator is the British former computer journalist and magazine publisher Chris Anderson.
TED is an acronym, and may refer to:
Timothy Joseph "Tim" Urban (born May 1, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and actor who was the seventh place finalist on the ninth season of American Idol. Urban's debut album and EP titled Heart of Me was released on November 8, 2010 through iTunes.
Urban was born in Tacoma, Washington, and is the sixth of ten kids. His family moved to Duncanville, Texas when he was five. He and his siblings were all homeschooled by their mother, and two of his brothers have served in the military. Urban began to sing and learn the guitar when he was thirteen years old. Before auditioning for American Idol, he worked as a hotel and restaurant singer, and had a band. The group played regularly in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Christian music circuit, and also performed at Six Flags Over Texas twice. Urban has pointed to several diverse artists as his musical influences, including John Denver, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, OneRepublic, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Third Day, Michael Bublé, Coldplay, and Matt Nathanson.

You're not at your best when you're stressed. In fact, your brain has evolved over millennia to release cortisol in stressful situations, inhibiting rational, logical thinking but potentially helping you survive, say, being attacked by a lion. Neuroscientist Daniel Levitin thinks there's a way to avoid making critical mistakes in stressful situations, when your thinking becomes clouded — the pre-mortem. "We all are going to fail now and then," he says. "The idea is to think ahead to what those failures might be." Cameron Russell admits she won "a genetic lottery": she's tall, pretty and an underwear model. But don't judge her by her looks. When your job hinges on how well you talk to people, you learn a lot about how to have conversations — and that most of us don't converse very well. Celeste Headlee has worked as a radio host for decades, and she knows the ingredients of a great conversation: Honesty, brevity, clarity and a healthy amount of listening. In this insightful talk, she shares 10 useful rules for having better conversations. "Go out, talk to people, listen to people," she says. "And, most importantly, be prepared to be amazed." After documenting and researching over 50,000 coaching interactions in the workplace, Bill Eckstrom shares life-altering, personal and professional development ideas through the introduction of the “Growth Rings.” The rings illustrate how dangerous it can be to remain in a state of comfort and how being in discomfort is the only way to sustain growth. You’ll be amazed at the world-changing outcomes discomfort can have on your life and the lives of others. Bill Eckstrom is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, outdoorsman and father of three. With a passion deeply rooted in growth and development, Bill has always been fascinated by the role a coach has on the performance of individuals and teams. Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn't make sense, but he's never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through YouTube binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time. What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think it's fame and money, you're not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you're mistaken. As the director of 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. The 2015 TED conference opened with this practical effects film shot in super slow motion at Christopher Webb Films' studio. The project called for a 4K x 1080 image to be captured at almost 3,000 fps. This was projected onto a screen that was roughly 90' x 30' at the TED opening presentation. CW Films created a practical effects solution which put the brick on an exact path to collide with optical glass hiding in the center of the frame. Once broken, the glass shards and fine particles become illuminated by dozens of high powered projection lights with high speed power systems custom built by CW Films. The lingering nebula of color is the result of glass particles in the air interacting with the various light sources. All effects were originated in-camera, with the exception of the t...

Antibody worked with rockstar Bono, and the visionary creative team from the ONE CAMPAIGN, to create visuals for his presentation at the 2013 TED conference in Longbeach, California. The message of the talk was simple and powerful– that it is achievable to eradicate global extreme poverty by the year 2028. Antibody created a graphic language that could distil Bono’s “Factivist” data into clear and compelling visuals.
On March 2nd 2011, at the TED Conference in Long Beach, California, JR called for the creation of a global art project inspired by his large‐format street pastings : the INSIDE OUT Project. A glimpse of the City of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. The film chronologically progresses from morning to late at night. This is my favorite city in Canada and one of the most beautiful in the world in terms of location. When visiting the country, this city is a must. It is truly world-class! Filmed at the end of April - early May 2015. Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life. It's a coastal seaport city with a metropolitan population of over 2.5 million inhabitants, the third most populous in Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada. 52% of its residents have a first language other than English. Vancouver is one of Canada's warmest cities in the winter. On av...
