Stanley Kirk Burrell (born March 30, 1962), better known by his stage name MC Hammer (and later simply Hammer), is an American rapper, dancer, entrepreneur, spokesman and occasional actor. He had his greatest commercial success and

own reality show called Hammertime which aired on the A&E; Network during the summer of 2009. Hammer was also a television show host and dance judge on Dance Fever in 2003, was co-creator of a dance website called DanceJam.com, and is a
record label CEO while still performing concerts at music venues and assisting with other social media, ministry and outreach functions. Prior to becoming ordained, Hammer signed with Suge Knight's Death Row Records by 1995.
A multi-award winner, M.C. Hammer is considered a "forefather/pioneer" and innovator of pop rap (incorporating elements of freestyle music), and is the first hip hop artist to achieve diamond status for an album. Hammer was later
considered a sellout due in part to overexposure as an entertainer (having live instrumentation/bands, choreographed dance routines and an impact on popular culture being regularly referenced on television and in music) and as a result
of being too "commercial" when rap was "hardcore" at one point, then his image later becoming increasingly "gritty" to once again adapt to the ever-changing landscape of rap. Regardless, BET ranked Hammer as the #7 "Best Dancer Of All
Time". Vibe's "The Best Rapper Ever Tournament" declared him the 17th favorite of all-time during the first round.

Social media has undeniably changed music in general, including how rappers send out disses, which Redman shared his thoughts on during a recent interview with VladTV. The veteran rapper explained that back in the day there were many steps involved in dropping a diss track, whereas today, rappers can upload their disses immediately. He also added that he likes that rappers don't have to meet in person to squash beef, possibly diminishing violent acts from happening.
Speaking more about rap beef, Redman shared a story about the time MC Hammer confronted him at the taping of the last Yo! MTV Raps episode over his diss on his debut album. Redman pointed out that MC Hammer is very serious about beef, adding that he knew the "2 Legit 2 Quit" rapper wasn't messing around when he stepped to him at the show.

Social media has undeniably changed music in general, including how rappers send out disses, which Redman shared his thoughts on during a recent interview with VladTV. The veteran rapper explained that back in the day there were many steps involved in dropping a diss track, whereas today, rappers can upload their disses immediately. Social media has undeniably changed music in general, including how rappers send out disses, which Redman shared his thoughts on during a recent interview with VladTV. The veteran rapper explained that back in the day there were many steps involved in dropping a diss track, whereas today, rappers can upload their disses immediately. He also added that he likes that rappers don't have to meet in person to squash beef, possibly diminishing violent acts from happening.
Speaking more about rap beef, Redman shared a story about the time MC Hammer confronted him at the taping of the last Yo! MTV Raps episode over his diss on his debut album. Redman pointed out that MC Hammer is very serious about beef, adding that he knew the "2 Legit 2 Quit" rapper wasn't messing around when he stepped to him at the show.

Known for his amazing dance talent and spectacular performances as well as his flamboyant wardrobe and energetic personal style, MC Hammer is the winner of three Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, a People's Choice Award and a Diamond Award. He has sold over 30 million records, breaking down numerous doors for rap music and demonstrating that hip-hop had the potential for blockbuster success.
Hammer was born Stanley Kirk Burrell and raised in Oakland, Calif. His first break came when he landed a job as a ball boy for the Oakland A's, where he entertained fans by dancing during game breaks and earned the nickname "Hammer" for his resemblance to all-time home run leader, "Hammerin'" Hank Aaron.
An aspiring baseball player, Hammer was unable to break into professional baseball. He gave up that dream and enlisted in the Navy for three years. Upon his return to Oakland, he began performing at local clubs and, with help from several of his athlete friends, started his own record label. Recording singles and selling them out of the trunk of his car, he marketed himself relentlessly. In 1987, using the name MC Hammer, he recorded "Feel My Power" and impressed a Capitol Records executive with his elaborate live dance show. Soon after, he signed a multi-album deal.
Hammer's 1988 triple-platinum debut, Let's Get It Started, paved the way for his massive breakthrough effort, Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em which sold 17 million units and established him as the most popular hip-hop artist of the era. The mega single "U Can't Touch This" was unavoidable in 1990, playing regularly on radio and MTV.
For 1991's five-time platinum 2 Legit To Quit, Hammer dropped the "MC" from his name, but kept the trademark wholesome pop-rap sound, which had won over millions of fans worldwide. The single became his second big smash. In 1994, Hammer returned with a new platinum album, The Funky Head Hunter, and a grittier, hip-hop image. In 1997, Hammer announced his choice to use his musical talents to praise God and emphasize traditional family values.
A new album, The Greatest Dancer, will be released in 2003. He is a producer on the MTV feature film, Better Luck Tomorrow, due out in the spring. Also in 2003, Hammer's WorldHit record label will release eight new musical acts and his new book Enemies of the Father, will be released in September.
In December 2001, 2 Legit To Quit: The Life Story of MC Hammer became the second highest-rated original movie in the history of VH1.

ICONIC - AMDA's Fall Dance Concert of 2015 - was a modern celebration of 20th Century dance on film reimagined through live performance. Immersed in the rich history of dance from the 1920's to now, AMDA students trained rigorously with some of the most innovative artists of the era, including original choreographers and dancers from CHICAGO to DIRTY DANCING and Janet Jackson's IF.
Students recreated cinema's most cherished dance moments as ICONIC intertwined screen and stage in homage to some of the greatest dancers of all time: from Fred Astaire to the sultry burlesque of the "Cell Block Tango" to the pop grooves of Michael Jackson.
Surprisingly modern, ICONIC transposed the dances that dominated our screens to the visceral world of live theatre, paying tribute to the films that still impact nearly every aspect of modern entertainment, from today's hottest and most cutting edge music videos, to the shared experiences of artists and audiences across the world.
ICONIC was directed by dancer/director/choreographer Doriana Sanchez. Original choreography reimagined included that by masters Fred Astaire and Hermes Pan - Cheek to Cheek from TOP HAT; Gene Kelly and Arthur Freed - Moses Supposes from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN; Jerome Robbins - Dance at the Gym from WEST SIDE STORY; Louis Falco - Conversation Without Words from FAME; John O'Connell - El Tango Roxanne from MOULIN ROUGE; Daniel Ezralow - ACROSS THE UNIVERSE REDUX; Rob Marshall - Cell Block Tango from CHICAGO; Louis Johnson - Ease On Down the Road from THE WIZ; Bob Fosse - Rich Man's Frug from SWEET CHARITY; Tina Landon - Janet Jackson's IF (Tina choreographed IF again for ICONIC); Karole Ermitage - Madonna's VOGUE; Vincent Paterson - Michael Jackson's SMOOTH CRIMINAL; MC Hammer - for his own HAMMER; Jared Hess and Jon Heder - Vote for Pedro from NAPOLEON DYNAMITE; and Kenny Ortega - Time of My Life from DIRTY DANCING (reimagined and choreographed by original cast member/dancer Doriana Sanchez).

“This week’s show is so jammed packed with super stars, it was very difficult to squeeze it all into a 30-minute episode,” says Mike Sherman. “But we did it!”
The show kicks off in Hollywood, California for the premier of one of Hollywood’s hottest new animated films, produced by Starz Animation and Rocket Pictures called “Gnomeo and Juliet”. There Mike’s co-host, Jennifer Tapiero, gets an exclusive rare interview with rock legend, Elton John, whose songs form a large part of the movie soundtrack; some of which is sung by pop divas Nelly Furtado and Lady Gaga. He tells Jennifer how much fun he had making music for this amazing animated film.
Then it is off to cold Dallas, Texas for Super Bowl 45 where Mike and crew cover Dallas like the snow that fell on the city! There, Mike’s crew is everywhere - from the sexy Maxim magazine party where they go one on one with Wyclef Jean, Mel B from the Spice Girls, hip hop legend MC Hammer, Olivia Munn and more. Plus they also hit up the annual sexy Playboy party where everybody was trying to get in! But it’s okay, because Mike has a VIP pass and takes you inside, along with a live performance from hip hop superstar, Snoop Dogg.
Then it’s on to the next VIP party called, “The Leather N Lace”. This party was definitely a must see with the gorgeous Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussy Cat Dolls, Kevin Dillon from “Entourage”, the hit TV show on HBO, along with Holly Madison from Holly’s World and football hall of famer, “Marcus Allen”.

Social media has undeniably changed music in general, including how rappers send out disses, which Redman shared his thoughts on during a recent interview with VladTV. The veteran rapper explained that back in the day there were many steps involved in dropping a diss track, whereas today, rappers can upload their disses immediately. He also added that he likes that rappers don't have to meet in person to squash beef, possibly diminishing violent acts from happening.
Speaking more about rap beef, Redman shared a story about the time MC Hammer confronted him at the taping of the last Yo! MTV Raps episode over his diss on his debut album. Redman pointed out that MC Hammer is very serious about beef, adding that he knew the "2 Legit 2 Quit" rapper wasn't messing around when he stepped to him at the show.
