Leslie is an American rock band based out of Charleston, South Carolina

Leslie is made up of members Sadler Vaden (vocals/guitar), Jason Fox (bass), and Jonathan Carman (drums). The band released their EP, The Rebel Souls EP, to iTunes on March 31, 2009. Leslie is currently recording their debut album with Grammy-nominated producer, Paul Ebersold, who has worked with Three Doors Down, Saliva (band), and Sister Hazel. Leslie has also toured with Bang Camaro, Drivin' N' Cryin', Blackberry Smoke and The Avett Brothers and many others. Leslie's first live performance as a band was October 7, 2004, they are known for their dynamic live show and rigorous tour schedule.

Leslie (singer)

Leslie Bourgouin, better known by her mononym Leslie, is a French pop-R&B singer born on February 4, 1985 in Le Mans, France. Her father is Vietnamese and Polynesian while her mother is French.

In 2007, she recorded a duet single with the R&B singer Bobby Valentino, "Accorde-moi".

The same year, she covered several 1980s songs on her album Futur 80, including "Boule de flipper" originally sang by Corynne Charby, "Mise au point" by Jakie Quartz and "Les Bêtises" by Sabine Paturel.

Speeder (motor vessel)

Speeder was a motor launch built in 1908 which served on Puget Sound and in the San Juan Islands. From 1908 to 1922 this vessel was named Bainbridge.

Design and construction

Speeder was built in 1908 at Seattle, Washington for the Eagle Harbor Transportation Company The original name of the vessel was Bainbridge.

As originally built, the vessel was 79 feet (24 m) long, 12.5 feet (3.8 m) beam, and 4.5 feet (1.4 m) in depth of hold. Overall size was 39 gross and 26 registered tons. Only two crew were required according to the 1911 merchant vessel registry. As of 1911, the vessel was powered with a gasoline engine that generated 80 indicated horsepower. The vessel's U.S. Registry number was 205199.

Bainbridge was built to run on the Seattle-Bainbridge Island route and was the fastest vessel of the type yet constructed when built.

Career

In 1910 Bainbridge was purchased by the Puget Sound Navigation Company. PSN was then engaged in a strong competition with the Kitsap County Transportation Company, which had deployed a similar vessel, the gasoline launch Doncella to run against Bainbridge. There was a near-collision between the two vessels off Duwamish Head, in which, it was reported at the time that “'women fainted in fright.'� As a result of this incident, charges were brought against Capt. Carl Freese of the Bainbridge and Capt. George W. Keeney of Doncella.

Bainbridge's

Bainbridge's was a major department store in Eldon Square in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The store, which is now branded as John Lewis Newcastle, moved to its current site in 1974, but the company dates back to 1838. It became the first department store in the world in 1849, when it began recording weekly turnover separately by department. In 2002, after a vote by store employees, the owner John Lewis changed the official name to John Lewis Newcastle, although most shoppers still use the Bainbridge's name.

History

The store dates back to 1838, when Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge went into partnership with William Alder Dunn and opened a drapers and fashion shop in Newcastle's Market Street. Despite success the two partners fell out and went their separate ways.

In 1849 there were 23 separate departments, with weekly takings recorded by department, making it the first department store in the world. This ledger survives and is now kept in the archives of the John Lewis Partnership. Emerson became the sole proprietor in 1855. By the 1870s there were more than forty retail departments.
