Arizona has been the name of three ships of the United States Navy.
Arizona (i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.

Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. The U.S. government first obtained exclusive use of the inlet and the right to maintain a repair and coaling station for ships here in 1887. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan on December 7, 1941 was the immediate cause of the United States' entry into World War II.
Pearl Harbor was originally an extensive shallow embayment called Wai Momi (meaning, “Waters of Pearl”) or Puʻuloa (meaning, “long hill”) by the Hawaiians. Puʻuloa was regarded as the home of the shark goddess, Kaʻahupahau, and her brother (or son), Kahiʻuka, in Hawaiian legends. According to tradition, Keaunui, the head of the powerful Ewa chiefs, is credited with cutting a navigable channel near the present Puʻuloa saltworks, by which he made the estuary, known as "Pearl River," accessible to navigation. Making due allowance for legendary amplification, the estuary already had an outlet for its waters where the present gap is; but Keaunui is typically given the credit for widening and deepening it.

USS Arizona (BB-39) was a Pennsylvania-class battleship of the United States Navy and the first to be named "Arizona". On March 4, 1913, Congress authorized the construction of Arizona, named to honor the 48th state's admission into the union on 14 February 1912. The ship was the second and last of the Pennsylvania class of "super-dreadnought" battleships. Her keel was laid at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on 16 March 1914. She was launched on 19 June 1915, sponsored by Esther Ross, the daughter of a prominent Arizona pioneer, W.W. Ross of Prescott, Arizona. I want to pay tribute to th...
We visited the USS Arizona Memorial on August 31, 2009. The submarine in the beginning is the USS Bowfin. She is a WWII era boat and sits beside the memorials to each of the WWII submarines that were lost in combat. Following that we take the US Navy launch to the Memorial itself out in the harbor. You can see the USS Missouri not far away from the wreck of the Arizona. The treaty with Japan, that ended WWII, was signed on-board in August 1945. Views also of the tall buildings of Pearl City, north of Pearl Harbor.
Shortly before 0800, Japanese aircraft from six fleet carriers struck the Pacific Fleet as it lay in port at Pearl Harbor, and — in the ensuing two attack waves — wrought devastation on the Battle Line and on air and military facilities defending Pearl Harbor. Onboard Arizona, the ship's air raid alarm went off about 07:55, and the ship went to general quarters soon thereafter. Shortly after 08:00, a bomb dropped by a high-altitude Nakajima B5N "Kate" torpedo bomber from the Japanese carrier Kaga hit the side of the #4 turret and glanced off into the deck below, starting a small fire but causing minimal damage.

Lauren Bruner is a Navy Veteran and USS Arizona survivor. At age 21, Bruner was onboard the Battleship Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7th, 1941. The Purple Heart recipient is one of a handful of USS Arizona survivors who are still alive to tell the story of that day. We sit down with Mr. Bruner during a recent visit to Tucson as the University of Arizona honors World War II veterans, marking the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. So there is a lot of... controversy?... over the release of this ship as a payware premium. Frankly, it's worth every penny! Why? Because it's like a hyper accurate New Mexico with slightly less AA. Same beefy armor, same punchy guns, same tight turning circle and relatively fast ruddershift. What's not to like about it? It costs money! But beyond that, what a ship! This ship is one of the most fun ships in the game and survives up tiering reasonably well when no CV's are present. As one of three US Standards in this game, I'm glad they did an excellent job of fairly representing the strengths of the US Standards. To add to that a ship that has this much emotion and history behind it NEEDS to be presented in a positive life. Had this ship been junk, the justified salt and reje...
