Zeds Dead

Zeds Dead is a Canadian electronic music duo from Toronto, Ontario, Canada composed of Dylan Mamid, or DC, and Zach Rapp-Rovan, or Hooks. DC and Hooks have been producing music together since 2004.

The duo is currently signed to the record label Mad Decent, and have released music on several others. Much of their music remains bootlegged, unofficially released, or given away as free downloads. Similarly to "Yolanda Be Cool", the name "Zeds Dead" is a reference to a scene in the 1994 Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction.

Zeds Dead explores a diverse variety of genres that combine aspects of electro house, hip-hop, glitch, and drum and bass into their largely dubstep platform. Frequent collaborator, rapper Omar LinX, has worked with the duo on several occasions, producing two EPs together as a trio. Zeds Dead tours in extensive fashion and are significant components of the live music and festival circuits. Their Living Dead Tour, which spanned from February to May 2012, included over seventy performances in the United States and Canada alone.

Phrase

In everyday speech, a phrase may be any group of words, often carrying a special idiomatic meaning; in this sense it is roughly synonymous with expression. In linguistic analysis, a phrase is a group of words (or possibly a single word) that functions as a constituent in the syntax of a sentence—a single unit within a grammatical hierarchy. A phrase appears within a clause, although it is also possible for a phrase to be a clause or to contain a clause within it.

Common and technical use

There is a difference between the common use of the term phrase and its technical use in linguistics. In common usage, a phrase is usually a group of words with some special idiomatic meaning or other significance, such as "all rights reserved", "economical with the truth", "kick the bucket", and the like. It may be a euphemism, a saying or proverb, a fixed expression, a figure of speech, etc.

In grammatical analysis, particularly in theories of syntax, a phrase is any group of words, or sometimes a single word, which plays a particular role within the grammatical structure of a sentence. It does not have to have any special meaning or significance, or even exist anywhere outside of the sentence being analyzed, but it must function there as a complete grammatical unit. For example, in the sentence Yesterday I saw an orange bird with a white neck, the words an orange bird with a white neck form what is called a noun phrase, or a determiner phrase in some theories, which functions as the object of the sentence.

Delta Heavy

Delta Heavy (often stylized as DELTΔ HEΔVY) is a British electronic music production duo from London. The duo consists of Ben Hall and Simon James. They describe their genre as anything between 110 and 174BPM. They found fame with their 2012 single "Get By", which entered the UK Indie Chart at number 30. The duo's debut album, Paradise Lost, will be released on 4 March 2016 through RAM Records.

Career history

2010—2014: Early beginnings and commercial breakthrough

Delta Heavy first signed to Viper Recordings in 2009, and provided the songs "Galaxy" and "Abort" for two of the label's compilations. They were picked up by the prestigious drum and bass label RAM Records in 2010, and released their first two singles, "Space Time" and "Overkill" with them. The duo's debut extended play Down the Rabbit Hole was released on 27 May 2012, spawning the popular promotional single "Get By". It entered the UK Dance Chart at number 37. The song was also remixed by house producers Gorgon City, and the remix was given independent release. Their most recent track "Empire" was released for free download, and later for purchase through RAM Records. Delta Heavy have received widespread recognition, creating remixes for the likes of Rita Ora, Tinie Tempah, Avicii, DJ Fresh, Nero and Example among others. The bass music promoter UKF has helped the duo rise to fame, with their Nero remix accumulating almost eleven million views, "Demons" accumulating almost two million and "Hold Me" accumulating over four million views. The animated music video for "Get By", directed by Ian Robertson, has received over five and a half million YouTube views. Delta Heavy have supported Sub Focus on his North American Torus tour, and supported Example on his 2014 Live Life Living arena tour.

Twin Shadow

George Lewis Jr. (born 1983), better known by his stage name Twin Shadow, is a Dominican-American singer, producer, composer and writer, based out of Los Angeles, California. He has written a novel and released three albums: Forget (2010), Confess (2012) and Eclipse (2015). Lewis' songs, "Shooting Holes" and "Old Love/New Love," appear in the critically acclaimed 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V, while "To the Top" appears in the trailer, soundtrack and end scene/credits of the film Paper Towns and in the intro for the fourth episode of the episodic video game Tales from the Borderlands.

History

Lewis was born March 30, 1983 in the Dominican Republic and raised in Florida. Lewis's first exposure to music started by singing in his church choir. While growing up, Lewis listened to punk music, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Boyz II Men, Keith Sweat, and Bobby Brown.

Around 2000, he moved to Boston and started the band Mad Man Films alongside Joseph Ciampini (drums) (of Hooray For Earth), and Zak Longo (bass) of Before Lazers. Mad Man Films released two records independently. In 2006, not satisfied with recording music for theatre and films, Lewis moved to Brooklyn, NY and started the Twin Shadow project. Twin Shadow was the Rolling Stone Band of the Week on October 7, 2010.
