I've had a love affair with movie-making ever since he took me to see Raiders of the Lost Ark and explained to me at a young age what a director was. He sat me down in front of classics like Casablanca and Beau Geste and shortly thereafter he and my mother put a videocamera in my hands. Flash forward many years later, my father has since passed, but his influence is as strong as ever. Maybe stronger. My dad had a brief career in the cocaine trade as an independent smuggler. And what made him unique were the creative methods he used to pull off a dozen scams from South America that were so ingenious that the person carrying the load always had an out – they could walk away free and clear if the cocaine was discovered at Customs. He was uniquely principled for this line of work and always put people first. While Down and Dangerous is not an adaptation, it's his adventures and life lessons that serve as the spirit and creative spark behind this new movie. So I want to take this deep inspiration and enthusiasm, and everything I've learned from our past movies, and continue to grow as a storyteller as I break through new creative barriers. IS THIS AN ADAPTATION OF THE BOOK 'SNOWBLIND'? No, the film rights to the book about my dad's brief career in the cocaine trade were licensed in perpetuity many years ago. Down and Dangerous is an original work with original characters inspired by growing up with a former cocaine smuggler for a father. WHERE WILL THIS MONEY GO? At The Sabi Company, we have learned to stretch our dollar to get the most bang for our buck over the years, without sacrificing the authenticity of story or character. We've assembled a core team that includes myself, the producers, editor, music composer and lead actors. We already have nearly all the required camera gear, lights and editing equipment so know that your contribution is primarily going toward paying the cast a fair rate, necessary costs of production like food and location fees, and toward fun stuff like fake prop guns, knives, breakaway glass, fake blood, costumes and more.
