Kristian Merrill Bush (born March 14, 1970, in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States) is an American singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Bush is a former member of the folk rock duo Billy Pilgrim with Andrew Hyra, and is one half of the country music duo Sugarland with Jennifer Nettles. In addition to his work in these two groups, Bush has released one solo album, Southern Gravity, via Streamsound Records in 2015.
Jennifer Odessa Nettles (born September 12, 1974) is an American country music singer-songwriter and actress. She is known primarily for her role as lead vocalist of the duo Sugarland alongside Kristian Bush. Before Sugarland's inception, she also fronted Atlanta-based bands called Soul Miner's Daughter and Jennifer Nettles Band. She also charted as a duet partner on the country version of rock band Bon Jovi's 2006 single "Who Says You Can't Go Home", a Number One hit on the Billboard country charts.
Nettles was born and raised in the small town of Douglas, Georgia, graduating from Coffee High School. Nettles married Todd Van Sickle in 1998, but the couple divorced in 2007. On Saturday, November 26, 2011, Jennifer married her boyfriend of two years, Justin Miller, in a sunset ceremony at Blackberry Farms in East Tennessee. On June 18, 2012, Nettles and her husband announced they were expecting their first child in November. Their son, Magnus Hamilton Miller, was born in December 2012. "We are so thankful for all the prayers and support and are excited to take some time together as a new family," the couple said in a statement.
Sugarland is an American country music duo consisting of singer-songwriters Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush (vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and harmonica). Sugarland was founded in 2002 by Kristen Hall with Bush and became a trio after hiring Jennifer Nettles as lead vocalist.
Signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2004, Sugarland broke through that year with the release of their debut single "Baby Girl", the first single from their multi-platinum debut album Twice the Speed of Life. Hall left in 2006 before the group released its second album, Enjoy the Ride. This album produced their first two No. 1 singles (in the U.S.), "Want To" and "Settlin'", and won the duo a Grammy for "Stay". In 2008 they released their third album, titled Love on the Inside. This album produced three more No. 1 singles with "All I Want to Do", "Already Gone", and "It Happens". Their fourth album, The Incredible Machine was released on October 19, 2010 in both a standard and deluxe edition. Upon The Incredible Machine being certified platinum, Sugarland has sold in excess of 14 million records. Besides songs written with Kevin Griffin, Nettles and Bush write all of the band's songs. In 2012, after recording a series of tours, the duo went on hiatus due in part to Nettles taking a maternity leave; during the hiatus, both she and Bush recorded solo projects.
