A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after the bike he was riding collided with a truck in Queanbeyan on Saturday afternoon.

The Queanbeyan man, 36, was taken by ambulance to Canberra Hospital, suffering fractures following the collision on the intersection of the Kings Highway and Stephens Road.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 2pm, after the motorcyclist and the truck collided.

Queanbeyan police said they believe the motorcycle struck the left-hand side of the truck as the truck was turning from the highway onto Stephens Road.

The accident forced the closure of one eastbound lane on the Kings Highway for several hours, with parts of Stephens Road also closed off to drivers.

Police said it was too early to determine who was at fault for the incident, and have spoken to the truck driver, a 31-year-old man, as well as multiple witnesses.

Officers are still waiting to conduct an interview with the motorcyclist.

Both the truck and the motorcycle have been taken into police possession for further examination.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
