"Les derniers seront les premiers" (meaning "The Last Shall Be First") is a promotional single from Celine Dion's album Live à Paris. It was released on October 21, 1996 in Europe and Canada. Dion performed it as a live duet with Jean-Jacques Goldman.

"Les derniers seront les premiers" was written by Jean-Jacques Goldman and originally featured on album D'eux in 1995, where Goldman does the backing vocals only.

The music video was taken from the concert in Zenith Theatre, Paris. It can be found on the Live à Paris DVD.

"Les derniers seront les premiers" peaked at number 3 on the Quebec Airplay Chart, entering it on November 16, 1996 and spending 35 weeks there in total. It reached also number 47 on the Belgian Wallonia Airplay Chart.

Céline Marie Claudette Dion, CC OQ ChLD (/ˈdiːɒn/;French: [selin d(z)ijɔ̃]; born 30 March 1968) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, businesswoman and occasional actress. Born into a large family from Charlemagne, Quebec, Dion emerged as a teen star in the French-speaking world after her manager and future husband René Angélil mortgaged his home to finance her first record. Dion first gained international recognition in the 1980s by winning both the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest where she represented Switzerland. She returned to the top of pop music in 2002 and signed a three-year (later extended to almost five years) contract to perform nightly in a five-star theatrical show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Paradise, Nevada.

Jean-Jacques Goldman

Jean-Jacques Goldman (French pronunciation: ​[ʒɑ̃.ʒak ɡɔldˈman]; born 11 October 1951) is a Grammy Award-winning French singer-songwriter. He is hugely popular in the French-speaking world, and since 2003 has been the second-highest-grossing French living pop-rock singer, after Johnny Hallyday. In the 1990s, he was part of the trio Fredericks Goldman Jones with a string of hits.

Biography

Born in Paris to an immigrant Polish Jewish father, Alter Mojze Goldman and a German Jewish mother, Ruth Ambrunn, Goldman was the third of four children. As a child, he began his music studies on the violin, then the piano. In 1968, he abandoned his classical music studies for "American Rock & Roll" as well as folk music, listening to The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix or Aretha Franklin, and emphasizing the guitar. He also earned a business degree from the École Des Hautes Études Commerciales, commonly known as EDHEC, in Lille. In 1972, he met Catherine, his first wife, with whom he had three children. He first entered the French music scene as member of a progressive rock group named Taï Phong ("great wind, typhoon" in Vietnamese), which released its first album in 1975. Their first song to be a moderate hit was "Sister Jane." After singing four years and three albums in English with Taï Phong, Goldman was determined to do it alone and write and sing in French.
