Jacmel, (Haitian Creole: Jakmèl; Spanish: Yáquimo) is a commune in southern Haiti founded by the Spanish in 1504 and repopulated by the French in 1698. It is the capital of the department of Sud-Est and has an estimated population of 40,000, while the municipality (commune) of Jacmel had a population of 137,966 at the 2003 Census. The town's name is derived from its indigenous Taíno name of Yaquimel. In 1925, Jacmel was dubbed as the "City of Light," becoming the first in the Caribbean to have electricity.
The city has well-preserved historical French colonial architecture that dates back from the early nineteenth century and has little changed. The town has been tentatively accepted as a World Heritage site and UNESCO reports that it has sustained damage in the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
The town was founded by Dominicans ("Compagnie de Saint-Domingue") in 1698 as the capital of the southeastern part of the French colony Saint-Domingue. The area now called Jacmel was Taíno territory, part of the Xaragua chiefdom ruled by cacique Bohechio. With the arrival of the French, and the later establishment of the town, the French renamed Yaquimel as Jacmel.
Cap-Rouge (English: Red Cape) is located in central Quebec, Canada on the Saint Lawrence River within the Borough Sainte-Foy–Sillery–Cap-Rouge in Quebec City. The site of the first attempted permanent European settlement in North America, Cap-Rouge was long a town on its own before being incorporated within Québec on January 1, 2002. The population of Cap-Rouge was 13,153 as of the Canada 2011 Census.
In 1635, the first seigneurie is granted on the territory of Cape-Rouge, but revoked the following year by the Company of One Hundred Associates. However by 1638 Paul Le Jeune, a missionary Jesuit, noted in "The Jesuit Relations" the presence of some families in the valley. Between 1647 and 1652, the seigneuries of Maur, on the West, and Gaudarville, in the East, were established on the territory. From that moment, based on taxable citizens, the settlement on the lands of Cap-Rouge are established. The village formed is served by the parishes of Ancienne-Lorette in (1678) to the north; of Saint-Augustin in (1691) on the West; and of Sainte-Foy (1698) in the East.
Bassin-Bleu (Haitian Creole: Basen Ble) is a commune in the Port-de-Paix Arrondissement, in the Nord-Ouest Department of Haiti. It has 33,926 inhabitants. Bassin Bleu is a home to a waterfall/pond called Bassin-Bleu. They are a main tourist attraction.

Hello Lost Ones, and welcome to another episode of #TheLostLife. On this episode, I'm taking you back to Haiti, this time to the port city of Jacmel. Now better known for having one of the more intact and tourist centric cities in Haiti, Jacmel was once a bustling port for import and export in the Caribbean. One large export here was coffee, and as coffee was brought down from the hills, it was processed, sorted, packed, and sold in factories around the city. Present day, these factories are a row of ruins, and wandering the side streets of Jacmel away from the tourist shops and galleries would appear to be all abandoned and forgotten. But behind the crumbling facades and rusted iron doors lies a bit of life. With a local who took us into the factories, he showed us around the connecting f...

http://haitianhollywood.com “Haiti is full of beautiful beaches, beautiful waterfalls and beautiful caves. The country also offers a beautiful tropical sun and gigantic mountains. The soul of the Caribbean is alive in the brilliant works of Haitian artists and craftsmen. Haiti is a mosaic culture from a mixture of Indian, African and European practices inherited from the colonial system. Creativity lives Haitian art whether through painting, music, dance and crafts.” By: Ministry of Tourism.
Once a major tourist destination in the 70's, after wars, epidemics, and dictatorships, Haiti fell off the vacation map. It's still on the State Department's travel warning list, but the Haitian government says it's safe and fun for Americans to visit. Vocativ went to Haiti and talked to the minister of tourism, tour guides, police, to explore what a vacation in Haiti would look like.
