The economy of Norway is a developed mixed economy with state-ownership in strategic areas. Although sensitive to global business cycles, the economy of Norway has shown robust growth since the start of the industrial era. Shipping has long been a support of Norway's export sector, but much of Norway's economic growth has been fueled by an abundance of natural resources, including petroleum exploration and production, hydroelectric power, and fisheries. Agriculture and traditional heavy manufacturing have suffered relative decline compared to services and oil-related industries, and the public sector is among the largest in the world as a percentage of the overall gross domestic product. The country has a very high standard of living compared with other European countries, and a strongly integrated welfare system. Norway's modern manufacturing and welfare system rely on a financial reserve produced by exploitation of natural resources, particularly North Sea oil.
Norway (i/ˈnɔːrweɪ/ NAWR-way; Norwegian: Norge (Bokmål) or Noreg (Nynorsk)), officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a sovereign and unitary monarchy whose territory comprises the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula plus the island Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard. The Antarctic Peter I Island and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island are dependent territories and thus not considered part of the Kingdom. Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land. Until 1814, the Kingdom included the Faroe Islands (since 1035), Greenland (1261), and Iceland (1262). It also included Shetland and Orkney until 1468.
Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of 5,109,059 people (2014). The country shares a long eastern border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long). Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the north-east, and the Skagerrak Strait to the south, with Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea.
Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about his homeland, Norway! John digs into a vast number of stats and points as he breaks down how the Norwegian economy is beginning to crash. When you consider government GDP and you print reckless amounts of "money" out of thin air causing devaluation, debt and inflation, you get what you ask for as the overly manipulated markets create monopolies and heavy instability. John Sneisen gives insight into Norway that you won't see spoken about in the mainstream news or even most alternative channels. Stay tuned for much more on this subject! Map: Island Plates Speed: Standard Difficulty: Emperor Norway is an aggressive naval-oriented civilization that focuses on raiding the coastline of their enemies with their longships. Their berserkers are fast-moving infantry that are good on the offense, but weak on the defense, further adding to Norway’s aggressive playstyle. They are also quite a religious civilization with their unique stave churches, which benefit from nearby forests. Overall, Norway is meant to be played super aggressively in the early-game and preferably capture a capital or two, to set them up the late-game. In 2013, NUPI won the bid to undertake a study commissioned by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Norway and Asia's economic development . The results are now published in the form of two studies, one report and one working paper, that will be launched at this seminar. Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende will also give a presentation on Government Perspectives on Asia. The report contains a wide mapping of Asia's growing role in the world economy and Norway's economic relations with Asia, based on new data. In addition to this comprehensive and up-to-date overview of Norway's economic relations with Asia, a separate working paper examines the rapid development of regional trade agreements in the region
