Sundaze 1005

Hello, after a week of comedy shows projecting Halloween in mostly bland fashion, though " It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" concept was rather clever, "Community" was by far the best..worth watching even if you don't follow that show. Enough about that or Halloween, something that was originally called Samhain and was the celtic new year where the old and dead was respectfully guided out of earthly life, the christians usurped it and surplanted it with All Souls and left Halloween as a negativly distorted version of Samhain. Time to be a pagan and revert to Wicca the only somewhat sane religion that is out there (safe Buddism perhaps).

Todays post is about the struggle of good and evil.

I ripped this from vinyl because at the time there had only been a 2003 limited edition of the soundtrack on cd, amazing considering The Dark Crystal had been the biggest ever foreign film box office succces in Japan until Titanic came along...go figure. Unfortunately at the time i ripped this 3,5 years ago, i had just 80 gigs so i kept it to ogg 7, cdr's still cost money too at that time, so from all the vinyl rips i did my first year only a handful were burned..by far the most wave files were converted to ogg 7 and then deleted, much to my regret now..c'est la vie.. That said this soundtrack is still rare on cd..best option for a digital copy is rip it from the dvd which is available at amazon for a fiver very cheap for a (cult) classic..the movie is kinda inbetween..it aint exactly a family movie..too dark and philosophical and adults in the west at least, weren't that comfortable with being adressed by puppets ( clearly deeper embedded in asian cultures).

the story goes..

The narrator explains at the beginning of the prologue that the film takes place on "another world, another time... in the age of wonder". The setting is Thra, a biodiverse planet featuring creatures, environments, and magic inspired by common folklore. Thra has three suns; the Greater Sun, the Rose Sun, and the Dying Sun. Many creatures and races inhabit the planet, but the dominant race is the urSkeks, who came from another world and are the guardians of the Crystal of Truth. The Crystal harnesses the forces of nature, especially the light of the three suns, for the benefit of all inhabitants of Thra.

One thousand years before the beginning of the movie, during the Great Conjunction of the three suns, the urSkeks cracked the Crystal of Truth, and split into two races; the hunchbacked, gentle beings known as the Mystics and the vulture-like tyrants known as Skeksis. In that moment the Crystal became the Dark Crystal. The Skeksis then drove the Mystics from the castle where the cracked crystal resided and instituted a reign of terror over their world. Their wrath was particularly directed toward the elf-like Gelflings, due to a prophecy that promised the restoration of the crystal and the end of the Skeksis' power. The prophecy, rediscovered in an ancient Gelfling city, read:“

When single shines the triple sun,
What was sundered and undone
Shall be whole, the two made one,
By Gelfling hand, or else by none.

Right from the start comparisons were made with the Lord Of The Rings saga but that's a rather light comparison, a better one would be that Tolkien could have written it, though in his time setting it on another planet would have labelled it sci fi which it isn't. It's a moraality fairy tale. ”

Trevor Alfred Charles Jones (born 23 March 1949) is a South African orchestral film score composer. Although not especially well known outside the film world, he has composed for numerous films and his music has been critically acclaimed for both its depth and emotion. His first big moviework Excalibur brought Jones to the attention of Jim Henson, who was making The Dark Crystal, and looking for a composer who was young and eager to work in the experimental, free-wheeling way which Henson preferred. The resultant score is an expansive, multi-faceted work, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra, augmented by inventive use of Fairlight and Synclavier synthesizers, as well as period instruments like crumhorn, recorder, and the unusual double-flageolet, which Jones came across by chance in a music store.

Bo Hanson died earlier this year age 67, he was well known in Sweden, in the rest of the world his Lord Of The Rings album had been all but forgotten certainly after the magnificent movies came out earlier this decade. However at the time in the late sixties when the Tolkien books had become very popular, he was the first musician that decided to make a concept album inspired on these books and he managed to capture the atmosphere so well that after the 70 swedish album "Sagan om ringen " reached Britain he signed a contract with Charisma, the progressive rock label at the time (72) . Bo Hansson's Rings can be seen as an early example of multi-instrumentalist rock, "an early classic of space music" with strange, otherworldly music that sometimes transcend their source material (the trilogy).

Around The World, Gregory

Hello, an unplanned post coming up. This morning fans mourn the passing of Gregory Isaacs, the singer whose smooth style earned him the nickname "Cool Ruler"and "Lonely Lover'. has died at the age of 59.. The entertainer had 40 years as a recording artist, he has made over 500 albums, and definitely left an impression on reggae music, all while having a turbulent life. Isaacs had been diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago, but continued performing until weeks before his death.

One of Jamaica's most beloved vocalists who is as pertinent in dancehalls as he is in bedrooms, Gregory Isaacs' career has stretched over 30 years. From the heady days of reggae through lovers rock, a genre he virtually invented, his talent reached into the modern age. Born in the Fletcher's Land area of Kingston, Jamaica, on July 15, 1951, Isaacs arrived in the music business via the talent show circuit. After 5 years of failing to make an impact and regardless of this poor track record, in 1973 Isaacs set up his own record store and label, African Museum, in partnership with Errol Dunkley, a young singer with a string of hits to his own name. Apparently some of Dunkley's own magic wore off and one of the label's first releases, Isaacs' own self-produced "My Only Lover," was an immediate hit and the floodgates opened wide. Besides African Museums' offerings, Isaacs helped keep the label solvent by recording with virtually every producer on the island for a stream of hits that showed no sign of abating.

By the late seventies, the two polar sides of Isaacs were apparent: the roots singer, whose emotive sufferer's songs and cultural numbers were filled with fire, and the crooning lover, whose passionate declarations of devotion quivered with emotion. Eventually, the latter "Cool Ruler" would come to dominate his image. In 78 Virgins Frontline label signed him and he produced two great albums for the UK market that didnt make a dent and so his first voyage across the pond wasnt succesful. a few years later Isaacs was picked up by Island's Mango and released Night Nurse which became a big hit and launched his international career. Ironically at the time he was serving a six months jail sentence for a drug related crime. Drugs and mainly crack cocaine had become part of his life by that time a decede later his voice and teeth had givin way. This didnt stop him creating many more dancehall classics with many diferent producers and deejees.

The singer showed in the new millennium with aplomb on Father and Son, which true to the title features Isaacs and his son Kevin. The duets are gorgeous, while the younger Isaacs is given plenty of room to prove that his talent is equal to his dad's. The next year, I Found Love marked the second time the two worked together. In between times, the singer continues to impress audiences live.

In 2008, after some 40 years as a recording artist, Isaacs released a new studio album Brand New Me. The album received positive reviews from critics, it was to be his last, the brand new me is singing at the other side now.

Night Nurse is reggae artist Gregory Isaacs' most well-known album, backing came from the Roots Radics, with additional synthesizer added by Wally Badarou. The prison sentence probably stopped Gregory from fully benefiting from the commercial success of this effort (no radio/tv promotions). "Night Nurse" is the best known song and the album from which it came found its way into a lot of homes. It is efficient, concise, and will bring back a lot of happy memories to those that heard it first twenty years ago. The songs have a confidence and assuredness that testify to Isaacs' commercial and critical high standing at the time.

The metaphor of the "Stranger" and the constant references to "Loneliness" always feature highly in Isaacs' work. A sense of apartness and alienation give all of his love songs a seldom-matched depth and emotional intensity. Even at his most seductive, there is a pleading and a quiet desperation that speaks of a pain and an absolute lack that is unlikely ever to be adequately satisfied. When the singer begs forgiveness for his failings , the hurt is almost overwhelming.

Earth Search 1004

Hello, a bit later as usual..my schedule kinda got hussled this weekend, well no need to worry, Follet's Earthsearch continues with another exiting episode..


The Setting

Some years before the story opens, the huge Earth starship Challenger, on a mission to find Earth-like planets for colonization, encountered a meteoroid shower that killed all of the adult crew and seriously damaged the ship. The only human survivors were four babies - two boys, Telson and Darv, and two girls, Sharna and Astra.The four have been raised from childhood by androids and tutored by two disembodied voices called Angel One and Angel Two. Most of the humans believe the voices are real angels, but Darv is more suspicious and believes they are actually computers.

Darv is correct. The Angels are the Challenger's ancillary control computers. Due to a fault in their design they have become megalomaniacal and want to return to Earth and rule it. It was they who deliberately manoeuvred the Challenger into the path of the meteoroids and shut off the ship's defences. Unfortunately for them, they underestimated the amount of damage that would result, not only to the ship but themselves. As a result they have lost an unknown amount of potentially vital information about the nature of space and time.....

The starship Challenger has returned home and the crew have discovered the Earth has vanished and been replaced by the moon, not only that they find their lives in peril from a once benign force.Researching this 'new' solar system is essential to get some answers....

Hello, a bit later as usual and on top of the delays at todays safetycar F1 race and amidst of lots of rain here and there, todays Sundaze gets on its way. Well meanwhile webber's crashed out and Vettel whilst leading all the race saw his car blow up 10 rounds before the finish, Alonso's Ferrari did finish and he's leading now..hmm couldn't have happened to a nicer guy...not.
Today there's a prolific nineties youngster in the spotlight, one that carved out a little private space in the music scene having developped the label folktronic, though thats always a bit of media boxing in. Kieran Ebden has more tricks up his sleeve and besides being a prolific remixer he doesnt shy away from getting in with Jazz bo's .

For a guy in his mid-20s, London's Kieran Hebden has made quite the name for himself in such a short period of time. His post-rock project Fridge has released four albums and numerous EPs and singles since 1997, and many more records have been put out under his solo project called Four Tet. Kieran attended Elliott School in Putney,where he formed the band Fridge with classmates Adem Ilhan and Sam Jeffers. The band signed a recording contract when Hebden was 15, and released their first album in March 1997. It Didn't take him long to decide to go solo aswell, he began releasing material as Four Tet in 1998 with the 36 minute, 25 second single Thirtysixtwentyfive on Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings label. Later that year, he released a second single, the jazz-influenced "Misnomer". 1999's Dialogue, again on Output, was Four Tet's first full-length album release and fused hip hop drum lines with dissonant jazz samples. This was followed by the double A-side single "Glasshead"/"Calamine", which was to be Four Tet's last release on Output.

In late 1999, Warp Records released Warp 10 + 3: Remixes, a tenth-anniversary compilation of remixes of Warp tracks; Hebden contributed a remix of the opening track of Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II. This relatively high-profile exposure attracted new interest in Four Tet from fans of electronica and intelligent dance . In 2001, Four Tet's second album Pause was released on Domino Records and found Hebden using more folk and electronic samples, which was quickly dubbed "folktronica" by the media and press in an attempt to establish the style. Rounds was released in May 2003. It was an ambitious album incorporating diverse samples such as a mandolin and a rubber duck on the closing track "Slow Jam". Three singles were released from the album: An accompanying DVD featured all of Four Tet's videos to date. In addition, the closing track "Slow Jam" was featured in a U.S. Nike commercial in 2001.

At the beginning of 2003, Four Tet opened for Radiohead on their European tour. A live album named Live in Copenhagen 30th March 2004 was released in April 2004 as a limited edition, available exclusively from the Domino Records website. In March and April 2005, Four Tet performed two shows of improvisational music, in collaboration with jazz drummer Steve Reid, in Paris and London. He also appears on Steve Reid Ensemble 2005 album Spirit Walk. This collaboration was extended into a series of international tours, and the release of two albums, The Exchange Session Vol. 1 and The Exchange Session Vol. 2 over the course of 2005 and 2006. His fourth studio album Everything Ecstatic was released on Domino May 2005 6 months later November 2005, Domino released a DVD version of Everything Ecstatic featuring video clips for each track of the album plus a CD with new material, titled Everything Ecstatic Part 2, which was later made available as an individual EP to show some respect to the fans initial buyers like me.

Hebden has also remixed, under the Four Tet name, tracks by a wide range of artists including Tegan And Sara, Madvillain, Andrew Bird, Bloc Party, Super Furry Animals, Beth Orton, Badly Drawn Boy, CYNE, The Notwist, Boom Bip, Battles, Kings of Convenience, Lars Horntveth, Bonobo, Rothko, Thom Yorke and Radiohead. On 25 September 2006, Domino Records released Remixes, a two-disc compilation of Four Tet remixes. April 2008 a mini album/ EP, Ringer, was released on 21 April 2008, later that year Hebden collaborated with composer David Arnold to write "Crawl, End Crawl", the song used for the end credits of the film Quantum of Solace.

In 2009, Hebden worked on a secret collaboration with Burial. The two track 12" was released with a plain black cover with no liner notes or details contained on the vinyl, other than the artists' names and the track titles: "Moth" and "Wolf Cub". The fifth full-length Four Tet album entitled There Is Love in You was released on 25 January 2010 the album was preceded by a limited edition release of the 12" single "Love Cry".

On the new album, Hebden shifts the focus from hip-hop beats, jazz influences, and far-reaching sonic adventurousness, to a more spare, focused sound, one that's cozier, while still breaking new ground
Freely moving in and out of cycles, Rounds funnels every element through the drum, which always remains at the forefront of the mix. Hebden dabbles in and draws upon to flesh out the beat. Though hardly obvious the first time through, there's the supple, propulsive fun of funk, as well as the pastoral placidity of folk, both moving over the cut-up rhythms like cumulous clouds, allowing hot light through at some junctures, but cooling things out with a darker umbrage in others. 'The centerpiece on Rounds is the nine and a half minute "Unspoken", Hebden's own little epic, a scintillating pastiche of folk, jazz, and more of those loping beats. The rhythms are steady and unwavering, as a lone piano plays the same chords over and over, with myriad tinkles, hums, and psychedelic backwards tracks popping in. The profound thing about Rounds comes from that fact it’s so self-assured. While in some hands this could easily translate into arrogance, in Kieran Hebden’s case it manifests itself as a cool confidence in the face of delicate proceedings.

At four songs, Ringer is economical, but the diversity within its half-hour run time makes it surprisingly robust as well. Ringer is about concealment and revelation, and it gains a great deal of tension in its quick juxtapositions of the two.

There is something tantalizing about these four tracks, which, at times, seems to verge on the lascivious. The title track thrums for ten hotwired minutes,as it unfolds with inexorable logic.It exemplifies the idiosyncrasies that make Hebden so intriguing. It begins with the sound of an intergalactic cicada and quickly is overtaken by a whitewash of bright synths and arpeggiating 80’s baritone. Besides being the second track, “Ribbons” is entirely aquatic—metaphorically of course. It builds with more choric gases trapped near the ocean floor, rising until they break the surface, and eventually moves to undulating chords.

That Hebden has been spinning more techno and trance while gigging the London club scene explains some of the minimalist sounds, but wistful unwonted melodies and enthralling beats are resounding and dominate the album. His jazz residency has fine-tuned his ear for the subtle yet beautifully complex mannerisms, melodies, and polyrhythms that flourish on Ringer, which, more than anything, helps us pick Hebden’s thoughts for clues on his next development.

Hello, as announced earlier i will be posting besides Sundaze and audiobook series, as i didnt really come up with another format i've decided to keep the old Rhotation format only without it's regularity, that's why the new format is called RhoDeo, off and on i will post music today that means the old Eight'X has become aetix and i will start here with a double double album..next week the other.
Now, I've never been a fan of samplers and in this case i owned most of whats on it already when the series came out in the late eighties. When a decade later i came across these two samplers of the sampler series for a tenner i couldnt let them lie , i may have stopped DJ'ing by that time but in case i let myself be lured in again to do an eighties night these two samplers would make life very easy.. Hello, as autumn really starts impacting on the northern hemisphere and days are shortening noticably and tempertures drop, once again the time has come for humans to shine and warm their surroundings, automation will never be able to replace that. The Japanese might be clever at building demurely smiling female robots, but all that proves is the level of fake respect they have been giving and getting in their 'emotionally empty' society. It should hardly come as a surprise that it has the highest suicide rate in the world, on the otherhand they do respect their elderly consequently Japanese live longest or maybe thats because of all the fish and whale they comsume, likely a combination of the two. Oops drifted off a little here because this audioseries is all about the search for home, even if they haven't got a clue as to what it really means ..home..Frank Zappa told us once under the moniker of Joe...Home Is, Where The Heart Is...very poetic..

Hello again, time for some contemplative rock well jazz or hard to pigeonhole. It's serious stuff, in fact a word of warning is in order the music of Spain..now there's a band name that didnt envision the internet (how to make oneself invisble) and to be honest i'm clueless as to why they chose that name there's nothing spanish in it.. howeverit does contain the word pain maybe that's it. Anyway Spain maybe unsuitable for those on antidepressants..not sure but maybe thats what led me to "The Man Who Was Already Dead"..whatever... a piece of free unqualified advice to the depressed, instead of popping pills why not seek out your local S & M club that will get your serotenine going. Time for another Sundazzle now...

Spain are an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1993, and led by Josh Haden. Originally comprising Haden, his sister Petra Haden and Evan Hartzell, their debut album The Blue Moods of Spain was released in September 1995. The album demonstrated what happened when the son of a jazzbo set forth to create a downcast, West Coast take on pure atmosphere. The cover art’s Blue Note quotation and Spain bandleader/bassist Josh Haden’s kinship to Ornette Coleman bassist Charlie Haden put the preconception of “jazz” on the tip of many listeners’ tongues. But Blue Moods was less about improvisational flair than it was about evoking a smoky, confessional vibe. Thankfully, all that ambience was backed up by considerable chops and Haden’s bottom-of-the-bottle baritone. The sombre and oblique lyrics about botched love and redemption here a little monotonous. But I have heard few records about love penned by a man that are so compelling. Devotion, guilt, regret, lust: they're all there, burning slowly blue in the dark. From it, their song "Spiritual" was covered by Johnny Cash on his 1996 Unchained album. A compilation album, Spirituals: The Best Of Spain, was released in 2003.

Spain released two more albums before disbanding in 2001."She Haunts My Dreams" (1999) and "I Believe" ( 2001) In addition to various solo projects, Haden has collaborated with the Blue Man Group, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Donovan and others. Guitarist Merlo Podlewski has appeared on albums by Jack Johnson and Handsome Boy Modeling School. In 2007, Haden reformed the band with new members Randy Kirk (keyboards, guitar), Matt Mayhall (drums), and Tom Gladders (guitar). To commemorate Spain's first shows in over six years, the band performed The Blue Moods of Spain live in its entirety at the 2007 Tanned Tin festival in Castellón, Spain. This was followed by several shows in the U.S.

In April 2009, Daniel Brummel joined the band on guitar. Since then, a new single, "I'm Still Free" was released via iTunes in January 2010. A new studio album is scheduled for release in 2010 or 2011

Venus was created in 1997 by five artists hailing from Brussels, Belgium. Marc A. Huyghens (voice and guitar), Christian Schreurs - (Violin), Thomas Van Cottom (Drums), Walter Janssens (Double bass), Patric Carpentier (Scenography).The original goal of the band was to create an original sound that expressed different emotions through several instruments including guitar, violin, double bass, organ, percussion, synth, and a host of others. Also using the scenography talents of former member Patric Carpentier to create visual emotion through their live performances. The band's name is in reference and inspired from the Velvet Underground track, Venus In Furs.

The band's first album was Royal Sucker EP in 99, they received an award for Best Rock Act at the French festival Le Printemps de Bourges in April that year. Now their goal was to record and release a full-length album within the year. Their full-length album Welcome To The Modern Dance Hall was released November 1999. During this time before the major portion of touring western Europe began, in 2000 double bassist Walter Jenssens left the band and he was replaced by current member Pierre Jacqmin.

In 2000 Venus were touring relentlessly until middle through the year, hoping to have their sounds heard on the local radios wherever they played. During the fall the band gave composer Renaud Lhoest permission to re-orchestrate their songs, which further positioned themselves further away from the rock scene , the band were set to play a sold-out show in Brussels. One of these shows was recorded and was released as "The Man Who Was Already Dead", this ended up being one of their more popular albums. During 2001 the band rested long after their relentless touring and lost two members, Patric Carpentier and Thomas Van Cottom. He was eventually replaced by a French drummer

In 2003 the band switched labels to sign with bigger label Capitol, where they were given the chance to create a higher quality album. They released Vertigone that year on March 3 as well as three singles.The release of the album came as a success as radio stations across Europe played their recent singles as well as one being used in a film by Enki Bilal titled Immortel in 2004.

In Spring 2006 the band released The Red Room with a new approach and sound compared to their previous efforts. The music presents a heavier tone this time .The album received good reviews across Europe and rivaled the sales of their previous albums.
On the Venus website the band states that the actual red room "is the place you would seek refuge when you want to be alone. An area of well-being but also of alienation – everything is possible but is also uncertain.". Venus promoted the new album by touring through Western Europe and the UK.

On the 23rd March 2007, a 10th anniversary concert was scheduled at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. However, it turned into a goodbye concert, including many guests such as members from Girls in Hawaii and Ghinzu, as well as Venus' former double bass player, Walter Janssens and others. A last EP containing covers of Daniel Lanois, Björk and fellow Belgian singer Jacques Brel was released for the occasion.

Earth Search 1002

Hello, 101010 has come and gone, on we go with the mystery and intrigue surrounding the spaceship Challenger , how will they cope against the odds..here's episode 2


The Setting

Some years before the story opens, the huge Earth starship Challenger, on a mission to find Earth-like planets for colonization, encountered a meteoroid shower that killed all of the adult crew and seriously damaged the ship. The only human survivors were four babies - two boys, Telson and Darv, and two girls, Sharna and Astra.The four have been raised from childhood by androids and tutored by two disembodied voices called Angel One and Angel Two. Most of the humans believe the voices are real angels, but Darv is more suspicious and believes they are actually computers.

Darv is correct. The Angels are the Challenger's ancillary control computers. Due to a fault in their design they have become megalomaniacal and want to return to Earth and rule it. It was they who deliberately manoeuvred the Challenger into the path of the meteoroids and shut off the ship's defences. Unfortunately for them, they underestimated the amount of damage that would result, not only to the ship but themselves. As a result they have lost an unknown amount of potentially vital information about the nature of space and time.....

Earth is gone and left the moon behind ..why, how ?

Hello, its a very special date today 101010 . Many manage to get married today, being born or to die would be nice too i guess..So what does it mean ..seen some general hogwash but nowhere did i see what it really means, because..it's ... " The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything". Yes ! It is 42 in binary.. computerlanguage..this is what the megacomputer took millions of years to calculate..duh..42 . Btw it's the number with which God creates the Universe in Kabalistic tradition, it is also the number of minutes it takes to freefall thru the earth (friction free).. There's of cause Level 42 the band that btw took it's name more likely from Clockwork Orange (movie) like Heaven 17 did. As i said a very special date today, but what is on offer ?

Gas ! ..not the kind you get at the pump or after munching too many beans but one of the many aliasses of Wolfgang Voigt the cofounder of one of the best loved labels in dance, Kompakt.. In the latter part of the nineties he produced 4 albums under the moniker Gas on the Mille Plateaux label, these have been rereleased on his own label and beautifully packaged as a 4 disc set, you should get it at amazon uk just 15,99 = 18,5 euro , a bargain for a classic 4 album box set . To call Gas just ambient is to belittle it. It's full of rich texture, colour, layers of depth - epic electronica - Life, the Universe, and Everything indeed.

Each album consisting of several long tracks of dense, hypnotic, atmospheric sound. Voigt cites his youthful LSD experiences in the Königsforst, a part of Germany's black forest situated near his hometown of Köln, as the inspiration behind the project. He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa". All Gas material shares a characteristic sound, consisting of an ambient wash of drones and loops, usually accompanied by a repetitive four to the floor kickdrum underneath the multiple layers of music. Occasionally a song will just drift on its own ambience.

Voigt has commented that he builds his tracks using samples, which are manipulated beyond recognition to create what can better be described as textural environments than songs. It's very overloaded minimal, as in it's just a few little elements and the beat - as long as there is a beat, not all these tracks have beats - these are going on and on, without too many breaks or variations, or whatever, on top there is very elegaic soundscapes running through, which build their own structures. Soundscapes sampled often from of musical origin, encapsulating "old pop record stuff" as well as classical music such as Richard Wagner and Arnold Schoenberg.

Hello, as announced a new sci-fi serial to enjoy for the coming 10 weeks , that is.. a lot can happen inbetween, but chances are we will not have been turned into spacedust yet.....So for now make way for ...


Earthsearch , a 10 part serial in time and space is a BBC Radio 4 science fiction series written by James Follett, comprising ten half-hour episodes orginaly broadcast between January and March 1981. There is also a novelisation by Follett under the same title. The series has been released on cassette and audio CD, and has been rerun several times on BBC 7 beginning in 2003.

Hello again, it has been a while as noted in my previous post i've been largely offline the first 8 months this year and currently enjoying a closeby free wifi hotspot since earlier last month. Well it enabled me to update all dead weed on my blog a deserved refreshner for visitors that had been dissapointed by a dead end. At the same time i filled the gaps fallen in the removed pages, these too are alive and well now, not available directly but will be packaged as a bonus.
I plan to continue the Sundaze format on a weekly basis, as well as starting a new audiobook series Earthsearch and if you think how can you loose a planet you got another thing coming...soon. As for the rest of the week i'm still brooding over a format, i'm open for a brainstorm.

The western world has become considerably poorer since late 2008, i wonder where all that virtual money went. On the bright side the Chinese still provide us with plenty of cheap toys to waste our time with, and making, recording and producing music has never been cheaper. You tube here we come ! The battle is not as much for our money but our attention, a total lost cause because the world has moved on yet the musicmoguls still seem to live in the roaring and snorting eighties. Over the top and loud has been their response and of cause keep squeezing their nest eggs do-rerere-leases rerere-unions..but then who ever assumed these people had any creativity, in fact most went bust and those that are left in the big world are kept as an aside or are in dire financial trouble like emi. No love lost there, but then they never gave any either..

Ok i start the new Sundaze series with a band that got honoured by being labelled "post-rock" for the first time in recorded history by music journalist Simon Reynolds in his review of the Hex album for Mojo magazine, this term could have been coined for the last Talk Talk albums but then that would have been too confusing for their fans.

Bark Psychosis' sound has covered various musical styles including minimalism, introverted indie rock, psychedelia, post-punk, cool jazz, outright mechanical/industrial noise, and electronic dance music. However, the band's music is best characterised by a sense of acoustic space, moody atmospherics, murmured vocals, abstract but emotional lyrics, and a particularly sensitive and acclaimed mixture of electronic and acoustic instrumentation. They are also noted for an extreme dynamic range.

Bark Psychosis was formed in Snaresbrook, Essex in 1986, emerging from the 1980s East London experimental music scene that also produced AR Kane and Disco Inferno. The original two members were schoolfriends Graham Sutton (guitar, vocals) and John Ling (bass, vocals) During its original incarnation, the group was a more conventional quartet: Graham Sutton, Daniel Gish, John Ling and Mark Simnett. This line-up recorded most of the early EPs and the seminal 1994 album Hex.

Ling and Sutton left school aged 16 (in January 1988) to pursue music full-time. They recruited drummer Mark Simnett, who'd previously done community work centred on St. John's Church, Stratford. Using Simnett's connection with the church, Bark Psychosis arranged rehearsal space for themselves in the crypt of St John's (this location would continue to play an important role in Bark Psychosis' music). The trio spent the rest of 1988 rehearsing and composing original material, during which time both Sutton and Ling began to dabble in keyboard playing and digital sampling

The official Bark Psychosis debut was 1989's 12-inch single "All Different Things/By Blow" feat Sue Page, in 1990, with Sue still on board, they released a 12-inch EP called "Nothing Feels". By this time, Bark Psychosis were establishing a reputation as one of the most unpredictable, innovative live bands in Britain with a great degree of spontaneity and excitement at their gigs. On record, however, they were developing into a more atmospheric and melodic act.

Having signed a formal recording contract with Cheree, Bark Psychosis immediately found themselves at odds by management changes at the label, the shady new owners kept the band on their contract until a year later Cheree was bought out by 3rd Stone Ltd., which had headhunted the band on the reputation of their initial singles. Their debut release for 3rd Stone - 1991's Manman EP — demonstrated clear influences from techno and musique concrete. Meanwhile the band's potential had dramatically expanded with the addition of keyboard/synthesizer player Daniel Gish (ex-Disco Inferno).

In 1992, Bark Psychosis released a hugely acclaimed landmark single called Scum. This was an ominous, 21-minute ambient piece improvised and recorded live in the band's "home" of St John's Church. Scum experimented with the use of space and extreme dynamics, with music that varied between minimal jazzy chording, airy acoustic drums, clamorous noise guitar, space-ambience and random vocal snippets. The single gained the band a lot of press attention (being awarded Single Of The Week in Melody Maker, amongst other plaudits) and consequently demand for an album grew.

By this point, the band had developed a singularly unique and varied sound — embedded in lush electronic sampling and textures and accented with electric guitars, piano, and melodica. However Hex featured guest musicians too, the Duke String Quartet, Animals That Swim's trumpeter Del Crabtree, Phil Brown on flute, and Neil Aldridge and Dave Ross on assorted percussion. The band also called in vibraphone player Pete Beresford. The recording of Hex proved to be tortuous, with plenty of infighting centred around Sutton's stubbornness and dominance of the band. Daniel Gish left Bark Psychosis towards the end of the sessions.
Once Hex was completed, John Ling also quit Bark Psychosis, feeling "burnt out and unable to play", allegedly due to the stress of making the album. Sutton was later to comment the recording had been a real 'headfuck'. Hex was released on February Valentine's day 1994. While it was not the first use of the term, Hex was the example which brought the "post-rock" concept to public knowledge to the point where it was a major stylistically-defining term in music criticism and discourse during the 1990s. It ensured that Bark Psychosis were one of the first bands recognised as being post-rock artists. Although Hex was not a commercial success at the time, over time it has achieved a cult status.

Now consisting of a duo of Sutton and Simnett, Bark Psychosis went on to record the Blue EP, released in May 1994. The title track was comparatively more upbeat than the band's work on Hex. It was also very strongly influenced by dance music. The EP also featured a Rudi Tambala remix of the Hex track "Big Shot" and (confusingly) a newly recorded track called "Hex", featuring three-and-a-half minutes of deafening noise textures eventually dissolving into ambient keyboards and trumpet, which was also recorded in St John's Church. Blue clearly revealed that Sutton's interest was now heading towards programmed and sequenced rhythms. Bark Psychosis performed at the Britronica Festival in April 1994 in Moscow (alongside Seefeel, Autechre, Ultramarine and Aphex Twin). After this concert, an increasingly sidelined Simnett left the band.

Although Bark Psychosis never formally split up, Simnett's departure effectively ended the band, as Sutton had by now lost interest in experimental rock and become a full-scale convert to drum and bass music.Later in 1994, 3rd Stone released a posthumous Bark Psychosis compilation album called Independency. This collected together the early Bark Psychosis singles and EPs on both Cheree and 3rd Stone, and included Scum in its entirety.

Sutton reunited with Daniel Gish later that summer to record some new tracks in an ambient and drum and bass style, which they performed at the 1994 Phoenix Festival at Stratford-Upon-Avon). Although billed under the Bark Psychosis name, this was in effect the debut appearance of a brand new project, Boymerang. The duo released the new tracks as part of an EP, following which Gish left the project. Now featuring Sutton alone, Boymerang released several more EPs and an album (1997's Balance Of The Force)

In parallel to (and following) his activities with Boymerang, Graham Sutton made a name for himself as a record producer. He has produced albums by Jarvis Cocker, Delays, Snowpony, The Veils, Coldharbourstores and British Sea Power. He also became a significant collaborator with .O.rang (the experimental band formed by former Talk Talk members Lee Harris and Paul Webb), contributing instrumentation and programming to the Herd of Instinct and Fields And Waves albums as well as the Spoor EP.

After a ten year hiatus, Bark Psychosis reappeared in 2004 as a Graham Sutton solo project in all but name. Sutton revealed that he had, in fact, been recording new Bark Psychosis tracks since 1999 with various collaborators. The revitalised Bark Psychosis released a new album, ///Codename: Dustsucker in 2004, on Fire Records. The album release was accompanied by the release of a new single called The Black Meat. ///Codename:Dustsucker’s arrival in 2004 was more than just a return to the fold for Graham Sutton; it was a complete re-calibration of what postrock meant. The album is percussion-centric, and smitten with texture, space, and silence, a seamless blend of acoustic instrumentation and electronic processing .

Dustsucker may be languorous and dense enough to put off those who are on edge, but even when the album grinds to a halt under its excessive weight the scenery is beatific. And what the songs lack in structural certainty or melodic eloquence they usually make up for in the remarkable depth and vibrancy of their textures. Considering the band's 10-year layoff, it's a somewhat understated return-- and one painted in broad strokes. Taken on its own terms it is an outstanding record, multi-hued and consuming, agonised, compelling, beautiful and measured.

In May 2005, Bark Psychosis released the 400 Winters EP , 3 "deconstructed and reassembled" tracks from Dustsucker. Since it has remained quiet but that seems to be part of Bark Psychosis' modus operandi .
