Old or OLD may refer to:
A clock is an instrument to indicate, keep, and co-ordinate time. The word clock is derived ultimately (via Dutch, Northern French, and Medieval Latin) from the Celtic words clagan and clocca meaning "bell". A silent instrument missing such a striking mechanism has traditionally been known as a timepiece. In general usage today a "clock" refers to any device for measuring and displaying the time. Watches and other timepieces that can be carried on one's person are often distinguished from clocks.
The clock is one of the oldest human inventions, meeting the need to consistently measure intervals of time shorter than the natural units: the day, the lunar month, and the year. Devices operating on several physical processes have been used over the millennia. A sundial shows the time by displaying the position of a shadow on a flat surface. There are a range of duration timers, a well-known example being the hourglass. Water clocks, along with the sundials, are possibly the oldest time-measuring instruments. A major advance occurred in Europe around 1300 with the invention of the escapement, which allowed construction of the first mechanical clocks, which used oscillating timekeepers like balance wheels. Spring-driven clocks appeared during the 15th century. During the 15th and 16th centuries, clockmaking flourished. The next development in accuracy occurred after 1656 with the invention of the pendulum clock. A major stimulus to improving the accuracy and reliability of clocks was the importance of precise time-keeping for navigation. The electric clock was patented in 1840. The development of electronics in the 20th century led to clocks with no clockwork parts at all.
Fine may refer to: A condition between good and bad.
Young Mountain is the first EP by the American band This Will Destroy You. It was originally self-recorded and self-released in 2005, and was intended to be a demo to be sold after local shows. Although it was then only available as a CD-R, the EP began to receive press mentions, including being named one of the best instrumental releases of the year by The Silent Ballet. The band soon attracted the attention of Magic Bullet Records, who repackaged the record and released it in CD format in June 2006. This was followed by a cassette release in December of the same year and a vinyl release the following March. The EP has generally received positive reviews, including being named best album of 2006 by the editor of Rock Sound magazine, Darren Taylor.
Tracks from Young Mountain have often been used in popular media. Most notably, "There are Some Remedies Worse Than the Disease" was used in the trailer for the 2009 film The Taking of Pelham 123, "I Believe in Your Victory" was used in the 2008 horror film Prom Night and "Quiet" featured in the documentary film William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe. Tracks from it were also used during a presentation at the Pentagon about Hurricane Katrina. The song "Quiet" was also used in a trailer for the film The Purge and in the closing of the ESPN documentary The Fab Five.

The McClintock-Loomis Company (1908 - 1917) succeeded by the O. B. McClintock Company (1917 - 1949) made large clocks for banks and other financial institutions. These clocks were typically mounted to the side of a bank building and often displayed the name of the institution. Many of these clocks had chime systems. A master clock (located inside the bank building or in a protected area) controlled the outside slave clocks and chime system. This video was made by the late Jim West of Houston, TX in the early 1990's. For additional information, please refer to the article Jim wrote in the April, 1994 Bulletin of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (Vol 36, No 289) entitled "Notes on O. B. McClintock Clocks". The West family has granted permission to make Jim's work ...

A 25 minute review covering skeleton clocks in general and focusing on English Victorian-era clocks made to represent famous monuments, cathedrals or palaces. Additional information can be found via Google search. Our goal is to take away some myths and increase interest in skeleton clocks. Apologies for poor monitor display of images; the images are fine, but after going to the monitor and back to the camera they lost their sharpness; I know a screen and projector would help. We are happy to receive information on any unusual skeleton clock. Finally, I apologize for the length of 25 min, but this was take 4, down from 38 min, as I like to wander too much with historical info. See our other videos on YouTube. Let me know if you think collectors would have an interest in "Unusual Esca...
