Rewind - Merv Bishop

Mervyn George Bishop has achieved much more than the indelible image of Vincent Lingiari and Gough Whitlam in 1975. In a career that saw him become the first indigenous metropolitan newspaper photographer in the 1960s, he has covered news, sport, community, the arts and more before working for the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, working as a freelancer, lecturing in photography and holding a number of exhibitions. His latest is "Mervyn Bishop: The Collection" at the Art Gallery NSW. Some of his work for the Sydney Morning Herald is featured here.
