Walmart employees found a 29-year-old woman dead after unlocking a restroom at a Sand Springs store Monday, apparently three days after she entered the room. The woman, identified as Katherine Caraway, was discovered about 3 p.m. in a Walmart store at Wekiwa Road and Wilson Avenue. Security cameras recorded Caraway entering the store's family bathroom, a private and lockable restroom, about 6 p.m. Friday, said Sand Springs Police Capt. Todd Enzbrenner. At some point over the weekend, a Walmart employee put an "Out of Order" sign outside the restroom, causing some confusion as to why the door was locked, police...

The Republican drumbeat to give up the August recess grew on Friday, as 10 GOP senators told Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., that they should stay in order to advance priorities like healthcare, the budget and tax reform. "We are united in our belief that we must work with a sense of urgency to deliver conservative solutions for pressing legislative issues on behalf of the American people," wrote the group of ten senators, adding that the Senate calendar shows that there are only 33 potential working days before the end of the fiscal year. "This does not appear to...

CORRISPONDENZA ROMANA and RORATE CÆLI have just learned that His Eminence Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Faith since July 2, 2012, has been dismissed by Pope Francis on the exact expiry date of his five-year mandate. Cardinal Müller is one of the cardinals who sought to interpret Amoris Laetitia along the lines of a hermeneutic of continuity with Church Tradition. This was enough to put him among the critics of the new course imposed by Pope Bergoglio.

The New York Times has issued a correction four days too late for its flap of a Russia story Monday. In a piece entitled, "Trump's Deflections and Denials on Russia Frustrate Even His Allies," the editors published some inaccuracies. In particular, the writers suggested that 17 intelligence agencies had signed off on a report noting that Russia had interfered in the 2016 presidential election. In reality, only four had come to that conclusion. In fact, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told a Senate Judiciary subcommittee exactly that last month. "Only three agencies" were directly involved in the assessment, "plus...
  • Trump choice to lead DOJ’s civil rights division draws ire of liberals

The White House nominated Washington labor lawyer Eric Dreiband as an assistant attorney general to head the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division — a choice eliciting anger from liberal advocacy groups. Organizations like the ACLU and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, which is headed by Mr. Dreiband’s predecessor, questioned the lawyer’s experience, saying he has spent much of his career fighting for companies accused of discrimination rather than on behalf of those discriminated against. Mr. Dreiband, a partner at Jones Day law firm, has specialized in representing businesses in litigation over employment discrimination, whistleblower claims, and wage...

The new Chinese tank (Left) and India’s MBT T-90 (Right). The Chinese military on Friday said it has conducted trials of a new light weight battle tank in the remote Himalayan region of Tibet near the Indian border. The 35-tonne tank has carried out trials in the plains of Tibet, People's Liberation Army spokesman Col Wu Qian said at a media briefing here. He was responding to questions about media reports that the PLA had carried out an exercise involving a new type of 35-tonne light weight tank in Tibet. When asked whether it is targeted against India, the PLA...
  • Idea of an Australian nuclear submarine fleet just won’t float

Here is a news flash for the Australian political community: a policy position can be true even if Tony Abbott argues for it. Abbott’s speech this week to the Centre for Independent Studies on the case for nuclear submarines was well researched, cogently argued and at a strategic level powerfully persuasive. There is no doubt nuclear subs would be a much better option than the conventional subs we are committed to. But, because I don’t want to be misunderstood, let me give you the punchline straight away. Abbott’s proposal is also completely unrealistic and, if it gains any traction, can...

President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing an executive order that will require all U.S. food aid to be transported on American ships, according to four sources with knowledge of the deliberations. Currently, 50 percent of such aid must be transported on U.S.-flagged vessels. The sources said Trump is considering going as far as doubling that to 100 percent, a move likely to stir opposition from both Republicans and Democrats.
  • Small Plane Crashes on 405 Freeway Near John Wayne Airport; 2 Hospitalized

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said the plane had crashed and two people in their early 60s were hospitalized with traumatic injuries. Both patients “had vitals” when they were removed from the plane, he said. It’s not clear what caused the plane to crash, he said. “As far as exactly what occurred to the aircraft, that’s up to the FAA for investigation,” Kurtz said. The plane’s wreckage was on the southbound freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard exit, on the path that aircraft use when landing at John Wayne Airport. The Cessna 310 aircraft “landed” on the freeway short...

Democratic state officials already are refusing to cooperate with the voter fraud investigation ordered by President Trump, saying they will not hand over the extensive “voter roll data” the commission is seeking. The response comes after Kris Kobach, the Kansas secretary of state serving as vice chair of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, wrote to all 50 states this week asking for their input as well as voter registration data. “I have no intention of honoring this request. Virginia conducts fair, honest, and democratic elections, and there is no evidence of significant voter fraud in Virginia,” Virginia Democratic...

A deadly mosquito-borne pandemic poses a greater threat to humankind than global war, billionaire Bill Gates warns. In a hard-hitting new documentary, the world's richest man said a killer bug could wipe out 10 million people without warning. Footage seen by MailOnline, set to be aired next week, shows the philanthropist's worries towards the danger of disease-carrying mosquitos. An outbreak could mimic the damage of the Ebola epidemic in late 2014 or the burden of that of the deadly SARS outbreak in 2003, experts worry. Climate change warming the planet is allowing for mosquitos to spread from their usual habitats,...

FULL TITLE: 'We need to instill fear of overdosing': Ohio city councilman proposes BANNING opioid addicts from getting Narcan after their second overdose Fed up with the social and fiscal toll of opiod addictions, a city councilman in Ohio has proposed cutting off overdose victims from receiving live-saving Narcan after their second overdose. Councilman Dan Picard made the half-serious proposal at a June 20 meeting of the Middletown, Ohio city council, after hearing the city was set to spend ten times its annual budget on Narcan. The city of roughly 49,000 is on pace to spend $100,000 on the life-saving...
