Mystery Box notes:

OU vinyl rip of The Mystery Box (NT&B; 8603-8612)
vinyl>rega planer2 turntable/shure cartridge>gennexa mixer>SB Audigy soundcard>rec. w/Adobe Audition 1.5>edit Sound Forge 4.5>flac level 8 conversion>you
Tested for sbe's. Re-tracked to what I think makes sense and only some minor editing of the more egregious snap, crackle, pop of the vinyl. Records are in pretty good shape actually.

New Site NOW OPEN

newsite

Hi Friends,
Circumstances have made it so that I will no longer post on this blog site. The good news is that I am posting on a brand new site below:

http://bootz2.blogspot.com/

Please consider going to and bookmarking the new site in your browser. I would love it if you became a "follower" as soon as possible.

I am in the hurried process of exporting this blog to the new one before this one gets shut down but it will probably take a couple of days.

The new blog is a bit of a WORK IN PROGRESS but it is functional. It is also searchable and will have better tagging!

My goal is to continue to post tons of boots and yet maintain quality and the personal touch.

I have singlehandedly posted over 6700 boots as a labor of love.

Allow me to thank you for over 9 MILLION page views (and the other kind things that you have done for me).

See you on the other side.

"ON THE PROWL AT BIG MAN'S WEST"
KIVAK MASTER SERIES
August 6 & 7, 1982

Audience Recording
Wav>flac

OU: Wow, what a surprise from Joe Kivak! Just when I thought all the original masters were depleted, Joe pulls out this one. These shows took place at Big Man's West, the club owned by Clarence Clemons. I'm not sure how this compares to the existing copies in circulation, but hopefully these will be an upgrade. Since the setlists were short, instead of releasing these as two separate shows, I put this together as a 2 disc set. Included with the artwork are never before seen photos from Big Man's West! On disc 2 Bruce sings a portion of a new song "On The Prowl" easily recognized as lyrics used on "Downbound Train." So, the end of 2008 going into 2009 comes another chapter in the Kivak Master Series. Enjoy!

Comment G.S.-Boryslawski: The show is nice.
Comments Jean-Sébastien Brasme: The last concert of the Making Movies tour 1980/1981. The band performance is quite good.

Enlight Remaster details: All tracks are normalized in volume with aprox -10dB (down), using an adaptive mode ( no peak to peak or replaygain is used)! Strong noise removed 50%nl-12.0dB reduction, some crackles has been removed <10% , peak restoration between -0.5 and -1.9!. for the cleaning part, some eq change are carefully made, Stereo has been vitalized with 7.5-12.5 % max., right and left channels are balanced. -Down To The Waterline,
-Lions,

I gave this remaster the title "First Time In Luxembourg 1981" to avoid mix-up with existing not remastered bootlegs. (This is not the same as the previous 2009 adjusted version)
cover, flaclog and MD5 included. Enjoy and Take care. Enlight (2011-02)

OU This one comes from that vinyl bootleg "Unearthed" (Nasty Nasty Records, limited edition 036/300).
The first 3 tracks are demos which are released on Anthology DoCD ("Stand So Close", "I Don«t Wanna See You Again" + "Do The Fast") and not (!!!) included here.
The infos on the boot are not the best, so the first 8 tracks are only titled "live".
I also didn't find much infos in the net, but it should be Derry, Casbah 1977.
Reasons:
"Casbah Rock"
By 1977 the band were performing their own three-chord pop punk material, which was performed alongside cover versions at concerts, primarily at The Casbah, where the band began to perform in February. These gigs were the first performances for which the Undertones were actually paid: performing at The Casbah earned the group up to £40 a week. This inspired the band to write and rehearse further material, as a means of remaining a popular act at this venue." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Undertones )
If someone has more infos, please post it. Thanks, Arcorman April, 9th 2012

Opening For: Saga

Lineage: Master > TDK Normal Position Type-I AD 90 Tape > Soundsaver MC Plexgear 33208 > USB > Audacity Wave > CD Wave Editor (Split Tracks) > Traders Little Helper > Flac 6

Soundquality: OU rates this one 9 - 9,5 out of 10. Back to the old Mastertape collection for some Loverboy. This recording turned out very good IMO. Had been a fan of these Canadian Rockers since their first album back in 1980. Was really great to finally see them in concert. They got a really great reception from the Stockholm crowd. Don´t think I ever traded this one back in the day, so this is a bit of a premiere. Hope you all will enjoy this nice little piece of music history. And please don´t share this one in any lossy format.

OU: I got this CD set way back in 2003. It was released under the title "The Day The Earth Stood Still". I have included some scans of the cover.
The original discs are split between Cosmik Debris and Stolen Moments. There is a fade so there is no music lost. For those that like a continuous show you can pretty easily edit the tracks together.

OU Show description & comments follow:
This is a nice sounding Brand X FM show I got in the 70's from a trader in Sweden. I don't remember if he recorded it, or got it from a buddy, but it's likely either first or second generation from the master. I think this circulates in a significantly shorter form (like 50 minutes), and as August 20, 1978. This came to me as August 30, 1978, so I'll stick with that, although it could be the broadcast date. If anybody has further details, please post that in the comments section. Enjoy. -bpthree

OU: This is my rip of a pristine vinyl I picked up today. It's ripped at 32bit float 96kHz. The record sounds like it could easily have been an official release, it's that good, and that's coming from me, who pretty much quit listening to Black Flag in the late 80's. Enjoy folks!

Todd Rundgren: Dallas 2012 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

Screen shot 2012-02-23 at 1.40.01 AM
House of Blues
Monday, March 26

Review: Billed as a "greatest hits" tour, Todd Rundgren's show last night at the House of Blues was a textbook presentation of his professionalism. Even dogged by a nasty cold and throat issues, Rundgren and his band delivered over two hours of classic power-pop and neo-soul, including classics "Can We Still Be Friends," "I Saw the Light," "Couldn't I Just Tell You" and "Hello, It's Me."
In between the expected fare, Rundgren threw in some pleasant surprises, including a great rendition of Smokey Robinson's "Ooo Baby Baby." Besides the aforementioned pop hits, the night was mostly devoted to Rundgren's obsession with soul and blues. His take on Robert Johnson's "Kind Hearted Woman" packed a wallop.
Early on, Rundgren appeared weary. He apologized for his voice, saying, "Just pretend you're at a Meatloaf show." As the night progressed, Rundgren adapted to his lower register and turned songs like "Soul Brother" and "Determination" into funky excursions that mixed Barry White with new wave. The surprisingly packed Monday night crowd was appreciative of just about anything Rundgren had to offer.
Even at 63, he continues his chameleon-like ways. Rundgren can (and has) done almost everything, from a cappella to electronica, and refuses to capitulate to any single genre. There may not be anyone else like him. He is that singular a talent. Let's just hope he takes some Nyquil and gets some rest.

1.Real Man
2.Love of the Common Man
3.Buffalo Grass
4.Determination
5.Kind Hearted Woman (Robert Johnson cover)
6.Lucky Guy

Steve Miller Band: Milwaukee 1982 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

a gig from my hometown
cover
Live at the Milwaukee Summerfest Main Stage on June 26th 1982 second show 7:30pm Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA

OU: This has to be my favorite recording in the year and a half I recorded on it. What energy the band had! To this day it amazes me when I hear it. This is a good a listen as it gets. Of course it helps if you like Steve Miller. If you do.......I guarantee this to be as good if not the best Steve Miller you ever heard. This is a perfect listen with a beer on a Friday night. This was when bands started going cordless. You hear every now and then static through the PA. How amusing when Stevie says the line "Someone give me a Cheeseburger" a whole bunch of Summerfest cheeseburgers was hurled up the stage. For those that went to the Summerfest Main stage back in the days......remember the group always center 20 rows or so? "The Gerbils". I got a kick out of that. These were great times....beer 50 cents a cup. Steve Miller was smiling from ear to ear this entire show. You want kick ass rock with all the dynamic range? Then I suggest you crank this show on your best system!
The levels of the cdr are exactly what is on the master. I permanently added to the lineage "ZERO GAIN SETTING!". Unless I used a pro mixer you cannot add gain with the CDR burner otherwise the dynamic range suffers. I prefer the Naim 52 as my buffer anyway. Stop looking at levels and just crank it.

This is first time on Cd-r and for the most part, uncirculated. Need a Foghat fix? Here you go.....

Elvis Presley: Las Vegas 1970 (Soundboard) FLAC

CD 4
This is the third of five stereo soundboards which were made available by the compilers of the Complete Works box set after the box was released. The box was released with six monosoundboards however the bootleggers never did get hold of the sixth stereo soundboard for 11 August Midnight Show. The box was mistakenly released with the soundboards in mono and the bootleggers made them available later via a free download as wav files. Four of the six soundboards have now been released officially by BMG/Sony and can be found on the following releases

10 August 1970 Opening Show on the FTD release One Night In Vegas
11 August 1970 Midnight Show on the Live In Las Vegas box set
12 August 1970 Midnight Show on That's The Way It Is Special Edition
13 August 1970 Dinner Show on the FTD release The Wonder Of You

Lineage: BMG soundboard tape (recording equipment unknown) > transfer method from original tape unknown > transfer method to bootleggers unknown > wav download from bootleggers > flac frontend > flac level 8

To preserve the files as they were received the original wavs have been converted to flac level 8 using flac front end. No attempt was made to fix the SBEs with TLC or any other program.

Taper's Comments:
Show description & comments follow: Before I had a VCR, I rigged up a way to record the sound off of my TV. Most TV's during this time frame did not have an audio out feature, so I purchased some sort of "black box" thing that supposedly did something to help you play your TV sound through your stereo. I opened my back cover on my TV, and got a cable with alligator clips, that I attached to each of the inputs to the TV speaker. That ran to the "black box", and then to my cassette deck. Understand that TV sound back then was hardly high fidelity, but it was at least respectable, and worth having. The biggest shortfall in sound was the high end. As a fellow DIMER so aptly pointed out, TV sound only went to around +/- 5,000 Hz then, where most things considered high fidelity were three times that.
This is the late great Rory Gallagher circa "Against The Grain", and he performs four
songs from that album. Enjoy! - bpthree

Frank Zappa and the MoI: Phoenix 1974 (Soundboard) FLAC

frankzappaphoenixjuly17
July 17th, 1974
Celebrity Theatre
Phoenix, AZ

Anybody interested in solid-sounding soundboards from the 1974 band? I thought so...

Like most of the shows from the first American leg of this tour (and the third American leg of 1974), this is a very loose, relaxed show, with plenty of quotes in Dupree's Paradise.
Despite the hissiness of this tape, it's clearly the best of four tapes sampled - so enjoy this immense Zappateer co-production, won't you?
Available Recordings, according to FZShows:
83 min, SBD, B+

Source: 82:28 (after speed correction and patching), B+ (B for BF patch, B/B- for WIU2B-LudzNL patch)
Lineage: SBD > Unknown Gen Maxell XLII 90min tape > Kenwood KX-W8020 Cassette Deck > Sound Blaster Awe32 PC Soundcard > Recorded To WAV With Cool Edit Pro > mailed across the Mason-Dixon line to ZP > Wavelab (speed correction as per flambay) > CDWAV (tracks split, saved as FLAC level 8 ) > foobar2000 (tags + ReplayGain)
Additional lineage for RDNZL: GoldWave (patched with flambay's assistance) > foobar2000 (tags + ReplayGain)
Additional lineage for Dupree's Paradise: GoldWave (patched without flambay's assistance, look what I did all by myself Mommy) > foobar2000 (tags + ReplayGain)
Taped by: N/A
Transferred by: jaypfunk
Speed corrected by: flambay
Edited by: Zappa Penguin
(RDNZL patch transferred by BengoFury, edited by flambay, cut-and-pasted by ZP)
(Dupree's Paradise patch transferred by WIU2B, mailed by LudzNL, cut-and-pasted by ZP)

The MOI:
Napolean Murphy Brock - saxophone, flute, vocals
George Duke - keyboards, synthesizer, vocals
Tom Fowler - bass
Chester Thompson - drums, vocals
Ruth Underwood - percussion
Frank Zappa - guitar, vocals

01. intro (soundcheck and tuning)
02. RDNZL (mystery wonder-gap at 0:37-38, patched with BF version, no music missing)
03. Village of the Sun
04. Echidna's Arf (of You)
05. Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?
06. Cosmik Debris
07. Dupree's Paradise (tape flip at 7:54 - patched with WIU2B-LudzNL version from 7:54 - 8:12, part of monologue still missing)
08. Camarillo Brillo
09. T'Mershi Duween
10. Dog Breath
11. Uncle Meat
12. tuning
13. Road Ladies

OU Notes: RDNZL patch is cross-faded, Dupree's isn't. A non-cross-faded version of RDNZL is available in the bonus folder, as well as the original Dupree's Paradise fill material.
Speed correction info:
intro -> tuning: +60 cts
Road Ladies: +55 cts
Do not encode to MP3, do not sell, do not buy, trade only as .FLAC, do not throw things on the stage, tip your waitress.

Björk: Frankfurt 2001 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

bjorkfrankfort01front
2001-09-18
Alte Oper
Frankfurt, Germany

Audience Recording > Sony Microphones* > Sony Minidisc > CDR > EAC/Musicmatch** > wav > flac (unedited, untracked)
Recorded by "HH"
Audio Extraction by Andre Nieuwlaat

downloaded via bjorkhub.no-ip.info (direct connect) > flac > wav > Soundforge (edits, fades) > CD Wave (tracking) > Flac Frontend (level 7, align on sector boundaries) > flac

*this recording was received via 2 CDR's directly from the person who recorded the show. The limited recording equipment information is all that the recorder could provide.
**The first CDR was extracted using EAC with no errors. The second disc would not extract using EAC, so Musicmatch was used. It became apparent when editing why the disc would not extract--there were 3 gaps in the second set, fortunately all during crowd noise. I used Soundforge7 to edit these gaps, and create a seemless recording. Soundforge pencil tool was used to smooth two bumps by the recorder into the mics during quiet moments. Fades were added to the beginning and end of each set. No normalization was necessary.
