Shiroi Koibito (白い恋人), literally means "White Lovers", also called Chocolat Blanc et Langue de Chat, is the best and well-known souvenir sweet from Hokkaido which consists of two thin butter cookies and a layer of white chocolate in between.
Langue de Chat is "cat's tongue-shaped thin cookies". I don't know why Shiroi Koibito is square-shaped... Anyways, it is very popular! haha

5 Ingredients Shiroi Koibito (Chocolat Blanc et Langue de Chat)
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 1 hour
Number of servings: 30 cookies
Ingredients:
100g (3.5oz.) butter *salted is ok
100g cake flour *all purpose flour is ok
1 egg
60g (2.1oz.) granulated sugar
240g (8.5oz.) white chocolate
Directions:
1. Draw about an inch and a half squares (leaving about an inch between) on a piece of paper.
2. Melt butter in a microwave (in a microwavable dish) and cream it in a bowl. Add granulated sugar, egg, and cake flour (sift), in order and mix well. *Yes, you can add vanilla extract to taste.
3. Preheat the oven to 180C (356F).
4. Transfer the batter to a pastry bag and snip off the end. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place the template under the parchment paper. Pipe out the batter in the squares (the batter will spread a little, so keep it smaller). Then remove the template. *You can bake 60 thin cookies.
5. Bake at 180C (356F) for 8-10 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheet.
6. Melt 120g (4.2oz.) white chocolate over a double boiler, line 6-inch square pan with plastic wrap (or use aluminium foil! I heard it is much easier and you may not need a square pan), then pour in the chocolate and spread evenly. Place it in the freezer to harden up a little bit. Cut it into 16 squares. *You can make 16 thin chocolates using a 6-inch square pan, so repeat the step to make 32 chocolates.
7. While the chocolate is soft, place it between two cookies. Place the cookies in the freezer to harden up completely.
You'd better keep the cookies in the fridge in summer.
You can store at the room temperature in winter, of course.

Shiroi Koibito is a popular Japanese confectionary originated from Hokkaido. During my stay in Hokkaido last winter, I visited the factory that reminds everyone to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I think it is one of must visit places in Sapporo area
The cakes are awesome and the places are so magical~
Unfortunately most of the cakes cant be brought back to Indonesia because it doesnt last long as they dont use preservative. The products are so high quality and in fact I really want everyone to try it T ______ T

Workers at the Shiroi Koibito Factory, where the popular cookies are being manufactured. Shiroi Koibito translates to "White Lover", though the Japanese also translate it as "Beloved White One". In actuality, the name of the cookies were inspired by falling snowflakes.
The Shiroi Koibito consists of two thin butter cookies sandwiching a layer of white or dark chocolate. Shot at Ishiya Co.'s (the company that produces the cookies and chocolate) Shiroi Koibito Park, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, on Oct. 25th, 2012.

Shiroi Koibito
Shiroi Koibito (白い恋人, lit. "white lover") is a European-style cookie manufactured and sold by Japanese confectionery maker Ishiya Co., Ltd. in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It consists of chocolate sandwiched between langue de chat. There are two main types: Shiroi Koibito White with white chocolate in the centre and Shiroi Koibito Black with milk chocolate in the centre. The package design has a white and light blue base with a picture of Rishiri Island's Mount Rishiri arranged in the centre.
Summary
Sales began in December 1976. The name originated one year in December while the founder was returning home after enjoying some skiing and casually remarked "It has started snowing white lovers." This is mentioned on the back of the box. The fact the products white colour is reminiscent of Hokkaido's snowy scenery and that sales are limited only to Hokkaido brought success and it gained popularity as a souvenir on business trips and holidays.
At present, yearly sales have risen to around two hundred million units. Shiroi Koibito ranks second nationally in souvenir unit sales following Akafukumochi (from Mie prefecture). A trade journal selected "souvenirs that represent the 20th century" based on a survey and Shoroi Koibito came in first place, beating out Karashi Mentaiko in second place by a landslide. In 1986, it won first prize in Monde Selection.

History
Shiroi Village was created within Inba District, Chiba Prefecture on April 1, 1885. From shortly after World War II until the early 1960s Shiroi was the site of a United States Air Force Base (SHIROI AFB APO 73). Shiroi was elevated to town status on September 1, 1964. As the Japanese economy grew in the 1970s, many people moved from the country to the cities, and the growth of Tokyo sent many residents out to suburbs in the Kantō countryside. Shiroi's real growth began during this period: its rail connection to Chiba City was completed in 1979, and it was linked directly to the Tokyo railway network in 1991. Shiroi was elevated to city status on April 1, 2001

Shiroi Koibito is a popular Japanese confectionary originated from Hokkaido. During my stay in Hokkaido last winter, I visited the factory that reminds everyone to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I think it is one of must visit places in Sapporo area The cakes are awesome and the places are so magical~ Unfortunately most of the cakes cant be brought back to Indonesia because it doesnt last long as they dont use preservative. Inside Shiroi Koibito Factory | 白い恋人パーク
Workers at the Shiroi Koibito Factory, where the popular cookies are being manufactured. Shiroi Koibito translates to "White Lover", though the Japanese also translate it as "Beloved White One". In actuality, the name of the cookies were inspired by falling snowflakes. The Shiroi Koibito consists of two thin butter cookies sandwiching a layer of white or dark chocolate. Shot at Ishiya Co.'s (the company that produces the cookies and chocolate) Shiroi Koibito Park, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, on Oct. 25th, 2012.

5 Ingredients Shiroi Koibito (Chocolat Blanc et Langue de Chat)
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 1 hour
Number of servings: 30 cookies
Ingredients:
100g (3.5oz.) butter *salted is ok
100g cake flour *all purpose flour is ok
1 egg
60g (2.1oz.) granulated sugar
240g (8.5oz.) white chocolate
Directions:
1. Draw about an inch and a half squares (leaving about an inch between) on a piece of paper.
2. Melt butter in a microwave (in a microwavable dish) and cream it in a bowl. Add granulated sugar, egg, and cake flour (sift), in order and mix well. *Yes, you can add vanilla extract to taste.
3. Preheat the oven to 180C (356F).
4. Transfer the batter to a pastry bag and snip off the end. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place the template under the parchment paper. Pipe out the batter in the squares (the batter will spread a little, so keep it smaller). Then remove the template. *You can bake 60 thin cookies.
5. Bake at 180C (356F) for 8-10 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheet.
6. Melt 120g (4.2oz.) white chocolate over a double boiler, line 6-inch square pan with plastic wrap (or use aluminium foil! I heard it is much easier and you may not need a square pan), then pour in the chocolate and spread evenly. Place it in the freezer to harden up a little bit. Cut it into 16 squares. *You can make 16 thin chocolates using a 6-inch square pan, so repeat the step to make 32 chocolates.
7. While the chocolate is soft, place it between two cookies. Place the cookies in the freezer to harden up completely.
You'd better keep the cookies in the fridge in summer.
You can store at the room temperature in winter, of course.

Workers at the Shiroi Koibito Factory, where the popular cookies are being manufactured. Shiroi Koibito translates to "White Lover", though the Japanese also translate it as "Beloved White One". In actuality, the name of the cookies were inspired by falling snowflakes.
