The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad (第三十二回オリンピック競技大会, Dai Sanjūni-kai Orinpikku Kyōgi Taikai) and commonly known as Tokyo 2020, is a major international multi-sport event due to be celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games as governed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The games are planned to be held from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo was announced as the host city at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 7 September 2013. Tokyo previously hosted the 1964 Summer Olympic Games, and in 2020 will become the fifth city (and the first in Asia) to host the Summer Olympic Games more than once. Tokyo will also be hosting the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
Tokyo, Istanbul and Madrid were the three candidate cities. The applicant cities of Baku and Doha were not promoted to candidate status. A bid from Rome was withdrawn.
48 votes needed for selection in opening round & runoff; 49 in final round.
The Summer Olympic Games or the Games of the Olympiad (French: Jeux olympiques d'été), first held in 1896, are an international multi-sport event, occurring every four years, organized by the International Olympic Committee. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medals for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition that started in 1904. The Winter Olympic Games were also created due to the success of the Summer Olympics.
The Olympics have increased from a 42-event competition with fewer than 250 male competitors from 14 nations to a 300-event sporting celebration with over 10,000 competitors from 205 nations. Organizers for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing expected approximately 10,500 competitors to take part in the 302 events on the program for the games.
Eighteen countries have hosted the Summer Olympics, with Great Britain 2012 being the most recent. The United States has hosted four Summer Olympics (1904, 1932, 1984, and 1996), more than any other nation, and Great Britain has hosted three Summer Olympics (1908, 1948, and 2012), all in London. Three cities have hosted two Summer Olympics: Los Angeles (1932 and 1984), Paris (1900 and 1924), and Athens (1896 and 2004).
2020 (MMXX) will be a leap year starting on Wednesday (dominical letter ED) of the Gregorian calendar, the 2020th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 20th year of the 3rd millennium, the 20th year of the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2020s decade.
Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
Super Mario (Japanese: スーパーマリオ, Hepburn: Sūpā Mario) is a series of platform video games created by Nintendo featuring their mascot, Mario. Alternatively called the Super Mario Bros. (スーパーマリオブラザーズ, Sūpā Mario Burazāzu) series or simply the Mario (マリオ) series, it is the central series of the greater Mario franchise. At least one Super Mario game has been released for every major Nintendo video game console and handheld.
The Super Mario games follow Mario's adventures in the fictional Mushroom Kingdom, usually with Mario as the player character. He is usually joined by his brother, Luigi, and occasionally by other members of the Mario cast. As in platform video games, the player runs and jumps across platforms and atop enemies in themed levels. The games have simple plots, typically with Mario rescuing the kidnapped Princess Peach from the primary antagonist, Bowser. The first title in the series, Super Mario Bros., released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985, established gameplay concepts and elements prevalent in nearly every Super Mario game since. These include a multitude of power-ups and items that give Mario special magic powers such as fireball-throwing and size-changing into giant and miniature sizes.

The Japan summer Olympics are still five years away, but there is major controversy over famed architect Zaha Hadid's designs for the Tokyo stadium. The design is expected to be finalized next week. Construction is set to begin October 1. Reports say it could cost more than $2 billion, which would make it the most expensive stadium ever built. Seth Doane reports.
Hosting the summer Olympics is proving to world cities to be an expensive venture that often leaves host countries in debt for years. Japan’s capital city Tokyo, seems to be weary of that fact ahead of the 2020 spectacle with authorities keen on scaling down on costs that could hit 3.9 trillion Kenya shillings more than four times the estimated cost when Tokyo won the bid in 2013. Four years from now, we will see what Gizmodo calls the most "Futuristic Olympics Ever Seen." But if you really think about it, not only has the Olympics been a major tool of the global elite to introduce new technological infrastructure to the masses, but the country of Japan in particular, is a core member of the Trilateral Commission, an organization bent on creating a One World Government. As we gauge and project where society is headed, we can see how the new phase for the New World Order will be to externalize and mobilize the kinds of technology that their forefathers only dreamed of. Zaha Hadid Architects has released this movie detailing its design for the scrapped Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium, which it describes as "the only way to achieve value for money in the market". The film, which is over 20 minutes long, explains the decisions made during the two-year-long design process that lead to the current proposal, which was dropped last month by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe citing spiralling costs. It also argues that starting again with a new design will not save the Japanese taxpayer any money so it could end up costing more in the long term, and the firm urges the government to reconsider its decision. "The design should be seen as the only way to achieve value for money in the market," says Zaha Hadid Architects in the film. The estimated cost of the Japan ...
