Monalisa Perez was arrested on Monday night after she fatally shot her 22-year-old boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, while the couple were recording a YouTube stunt for her vlog, according to a criminal complaint provided to BuzzFeed News.
On Wednesday, Perez was charged with second-degree manslaughter — a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, a fine of $20,000, or both.
She was held in a regional jail in Crookston and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday afternoon.
Perez called 911 on Monday evening to report that she accidentally shot Ruiz in the chest while they were making a YouTube video at the couple's house in Norman County.
Authorities found Ruiz with a single gunshot wound to his chest and attempted to save his life, but he died at the scene, the complaint said.
Perez, who is pregnant, told police that Ruiz wanted to make a YouTube video of her shooting a book while he was holding it, as he believed that the book would stop the bullet, according to the criminal complaint.Perez started a YouTube channel in March which aimed to show "the real life of a young couple who happen to be teen parents."
Perez had uploaded several YouTube videos featuring her and Ruiz, many of which involved doing "pranks," "stunts," and "challenges."
Some of the videos also featured their three-year-old daughter.
The couple's most recent video, which was uploaded on Monday — the day Ruiz died — was titled "Doing scary stunts at the fair."
Perez told authorities that Ruiz had been trying to convince her "for a while" to shoot the book while he held it for a YouTube video.

According to CBS Minnesota, Ruiz was holding a thick book in front of his chest and instructed Perez to shoot at him with a .50-caliber pistol. They wanted to see if the book could stop the bullet. The pair reportedly had tested the stunt out already — they were filming when the shooting occurred. Police said there are "multiple videos" of the incident, but that none of them will be released at this time.
Perez, who is seven months pregnant with their second child, is charged with second-degree manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm. She will remain in jail throughout her first hearing, which she will attend via video conference.

“They were in love. They loved each other. It was just a prank gone wrong. It shouldn't have happened like this. It shouldn't have happened at all,” Ruiz’s aunt Claudia told Valley News Live.
She also said the pair was trying to achieve YouTube fame and grow their following with increasingly dangerous stunts. “He had told me about an idea. I said, don't do it, don't do it. Why are you going to use a gun? Why? Because, we want more viewers.”
Ruiz and Perez had been together for six years. Their first child is three years old and was reportedly present at the time of the shooting.

HALSTAD, MN - A Minnesota woman charged in the fatal shooting of her boyfriend told authorities it was a video stunt gone wrong.
Monalisa Perez, of Halstad, was charged Wednesday with second-degree manslaughter in the death of Pedro Ruiz III. The family told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune the couple has a young child and that Perez is pregnant with their second.

Nace en los Estados Unidos pero a los 4 años de edad se trasladó junto a toda su familia a Puerto Rico de donde eran originalmente. Comienza su carrera en la música muy joven a la edad de 16 años cuando empieza a cantar en la "Escuela Libre de Música de Caguas". A pesar de esto comienza realmente su carrera en la música a la edad de 19 años cuando comienza su internacionalización siendo la primera voz de Pedro Conga y su orquesta Internacional a la cual perteneció 7 años y grabó 4 producciones junto a Pedro Conga. Los éxitos "No Te Quites La Ropa" sobrepasaron las 50,000 unidades en ventas mereciéndose su primer Disco de Oro en Puerto Rico, Atrévete, Vicio (Disco de Oro en Colombia), Quiero Volver, Si Supieras, Te Quiero Amor y Me Niegas Tanto Amor fueron éxitos que dieron a conocer a Maelo Ruiz en Latinoamérica. También fue corista del destacado salsero Willie González.
En 1994 lanza su Primera producción como solista "Solo" (1994) donde se destacó el tema "Te Necesito Mi Amor", colocándose cuatro semanas consecutivas Primer lugar en Colombia, Panamá, Venezuela, Chicago, Los Ángeles, Miami. En Perú y Ecuador fue galardonado como Mejor Salsero de 1995 con Premio Rumba de Oro.
En su Segunda producción, "Experiencia" (1996), este joven sonero extiende su talento al mercado mexicano y tejano y se escuchan fuertemente los temas "Te Amo", "El Reloj Cucú", "La Primera Noche", "La Dueña de Mi Corazón", entre otros. En su Tercera producción "Maelo Ruiz" (1999) expande su fanaticada hacia Europa interpretando temas románticos "Oh Mujer", "A Media Luz" y "Maldito".
Es en junio de 2004 que graba su cuarta producción como solista "En Tiempo De Amor" (2004) y la primera bajo el sello Codiscos, S.A., producción dirigida por el maestro Diego Galé donde se destacan temas románticos "Así Eres Tú" de Axel Martínez, "Será Que Si" de Luis Lambis, dos baladas "Por Favor Señora" de Juan C. Calderón, "Te Va a Doler" de Álvaro Torres y un medley de éxitos de Maelo.
Para el año de 2007, Maelo lanza, de la mano de esta misma disquera, su disco "Puro Corazón", donde versiona algunos temas románticos clásicos de los años 90 como "Entrégate" (originalmente interpretada por Luis Miguel).
También versionó el sencillo "Amor, amor" interpretado originalmente por Camilo Sesto.
Actualmente, es administrativo y socio mayoritario de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Campus Tabasco, impulsando a los jóvenes para poder continuar con sus estudios, abriendo talleres musicales, buscando talentos e impulsando a la música de tal manera que los jóvenes desarrollen sus potenciales.

Rey Ruiz
Rey Ruiz (Reinerio Ruiz born June 21, 1966 in La Lisa, Havana, Cuba) is a salsa singer from Cuba. Ruiz reached international fame across Latin America, Europe and among Hispanic music fans in the United States.
Biography
Rey Ruiz demonstrated an interest in becoming a salsa singer since he was a small child. Aside from an apparently normal childhood, Ruiz made his debut as a performer at a very young age; he was often showcased on Cuban television as a child, singing typical children's songs. Ruiz had his parents' full support, he was later on enrolled in Havana's Conservatorio de Música school. Eventually, Ruiz made his way to headlining a show at the Habana Libre Hotel.
Rey Ruiz performed in the well known "Cabaret Tropicana" music group. During a Cabaret Tropicana tour in the Dominican Republic, Ruiz defected, leaving the group to join some friends in the United States. Once established there, Ruiz began to gain fame as a solo salsa singer.
It took Ruiz three years after he arrived in the United States for him to release his first CD. The self-titled "Rey Ruiz" was produced by Sony Records and it earned Ruiz celebrity in such places as Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Venezuela. The album also earned Ruiz a number of Billboard and Premios Lo Nuestro awards (including Tropical New Artist of the Year), and it was a platinum album. Rey Ruiz was named the "salsa singer of the year" for 1993 by a prestigious salsa music magazine and was known for hits such as "No Me Acostumbro" and "Amiga".

Olivia Ruiz
Olivia Blanc (born 1 January 1980), known as Olivia Ruiz, is a female French pop singer of partial Spanish descent belonging to the nouvelle chanson genre. She gained fame after reaching the semi-finals of the French Star Academy series in 2001.
Biography
Ruiz was born at Carcassonne, daughter of musician Didier Blanc though later taking her grandmother's maiden name Ruiz. In 2001, she was a prominent contestant in the first French edition of Star Academy, a popular TV reality-show and musical contest. She was defeated in the semi-final by eventual winner Jenifer Bartoli but according to an interview on Europe 1 she claimed that she never wanted to win and, following a post-series tour, worked to distance herself from the Star Ac image.
For her second studio album La Femme Chocolat, Olivia Ruiz was recognised by the Victoires de la Musique as the Female Artist of the Year in 2007. For the live performances accompanying the record, she also received the prize in the category of Musical Show, Tour or Concert of the Year. The album topped the French chart and was certified as a diamond record for selling more than 750,000 copies in France and made it to the top 50 of the Walloon and Swiss charts. Off the album, the music videos of the tracks "J'traine des pieds" and "La femme chocolat" were placed on rotation on the MCM French TV channel in 2006. The singles made it to the top 50 of the French and Walloon charts.

Comienza su carrera en la música muy joven a la edad de 16 años cuando empieza a cantar en la "Escuela Libre de Música de Caguas". A pesar de esto comienza realmente su carrera en la música a la edad de 19 años cuando comienza su internacionalización siendo la primera voz de Pedro Conga y su orquesta Internacional a la cual perteneció 7 años y grabó 4 producciones junto a Pedro Conga. Los éxitos "No Te Quites La Ropa" sobrepasaron las 50,000 unidades en ventas mereciéndose su primer Disco de Oro en Puerto Rico, Atrévete, Vicio (Disco de Oro en Colombia), Quiero Volver, Si Supieras, Te Quiero Amor y Me Niegas Tanto Amor fueron éxitos que dieron a conocer a Maelo Ruiz en Latinoamérica. También fue corista del destacado salsero Willie González. En 1994 lanza su Primera producción como solista "Solo" (1994) donde se destacó el tema "Te Necesito Mi Amor", colocándose cuatro semanas consecutivas Primer lugar en Colombia, Panamá, Venezuela, Chicago, Los Ángeles, Miami. En Perú y Ecuador fue galardonado como Mejor Salsero de 1995 con Premio Rumba de Oro. En su Segunda producción, "Experiencia" (1996), este joven sonero extiende su talento al mercado mexicano y tejano y se escuchan fuertemente los temas "Te Amo", "El Reloj Cucú", "La Primera Noche", "La Dueña de Mi Corazón", entre otros. En su Tercera producción "Maelo Ruiz" (1999) expande su fanaticada hacia Europa interpretando temas románticos "Oh Mujer", "A Media Luz" y "Maldito". Es en junio de 2004 que graba su cuarta producción como solista "En Tiempo De Amor" (2004) y la primera bajo el sello Codiscos, S.A., producción dirigida por el maestro Diego Galé donde se destacan temas románticos "Así Eres Tú" de Axel Martínez, "Será Que Si" de Luis Lambis, dos baladas "Por Favor Señora" de Juan C. Calderón, "Te Va a Doler" de Álvaro Torres y un medley de éxitos de Maelo. Para el año de 2007, Maelo lanza, de la mano de esta misma disquera, su disco "Puro Corazón", donde versiona algunos temas románticos clásicos de los años 90 como "Entrégate" (originalmente interpretada por Luis Miguel). También versionó el sencillo "Amor, amor" interpretado originalmente por Camilo Sesto. Actualmente, es administrativo y socio mayoritario de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Campus Tabasco, impulsando a los jóvenes para poder continuar con sus estudios, abriendo talleres musicales, buscando talentos e impulsando a la música de tal manera que los jóvenes desarrollen sus potenciales. -

Monalisa Perez was arrested on Monday night after she fatally shot her 22-year-old boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, while the couple were recording a YouTube stunt for her vlog, according to a criminal complaint provided to BuzzFeed News. On Wednesday, Perez was charged with second-degree manslaughter — a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, a fine of $20,000, or both. She was held in a regional jail in Crookston and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday afternoon. Perez called 911 on Monday evening to report that she accidentally shot Ruiz in the chest while they were making a YouTube video at the couple's house in Norman County. Monalisa Perez was arrested on Monday night after she fatally shot her 22-year-old boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, while the couple were recording a YouTube stunt for her vlog, according to a criminal complaint provided to BuzzFeed News.
On Wednesday, Perez was charged with second-degree manslaughter — a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, a fine of $20,000, or both.
She was held in a regional jail in Crookston and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday afternoon.
Perez called 911 on Monday evening to report that she accidentally shot Ruiz in the chest while they were making a YouTube video at the couple's house in Norman County.
Authorities found Ruiz with a single gunshot wound to his chest and attempted to save his life, but he died at the scene, the complaint said.
Perez, who is pregnant, told police that Ruiz wanted to make a YouTube video of her shooting a book while he was holding it, as he believed that the book would stop the bullet, according to the criminal complaint.Perez started a YouTube channel in March which aimed to show "the real life of a young couple who happen to be teen parents."
Perez had uploaded several YouTube videos featuring her and Ruiz, many of which involved doing "pranks," "stunts," and "challenges."
Some of the videos also featured their three-year-old daughter.
The couple's most recent video, which was uploaded on Monday — the day Ruiz died — was titled "Doing scary stunts at the fair."
Perez told authorities that Ruiz had been trying to convince her "for a while" to shoot the book while he held it for a YouTube video.

According to CBS Minnesota, Ruiz was holding a thick book in front of his chest and instructed Perez to shoot at him with a .50-caliber pistol. They wanted to see if the book could stop the bullet. The pair reportedly had tested the stunt out already — they were filming when the shooting occurred. Police said there are "multiple videos" of the incident, but that none of them will be released at this time.
Perez, who is seven months pregnant with their second child, is charged with second-degree manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm. She will remain in jail throughout her first hearing, which she will attend via video conference.

She also said the pair was trying to achieve YouTube fame and grow their following with increasingly dangerous stunts. “He had told me about an idea. I said, don't do it, don't do it. Why are you going to use a gun? Why? Because, we want more viewers.”
Ruiz and Perez had been together for six years. Their first child is three years old and was reportedly present at the time of the shooting.

También fue corista del destacado salsero Willie González.
En 1994 lanza su Primera producción como solista "Solo" (1994) donde se destacó el tema "Te Necesito Mi Amor", colocándose cuatro semanas consecutivas Primer lugar en Colombia, Panamá, Venezuela, Chicago, Los Ángeles, Miami. Es en junio de 2004 que graba su cuarta producción como solista "En Tiempo De Amor" (2004) y la primera bajo el sello Codiscos, S.A., producción dirigida por el maestro Diego Galé donde se destacan temas románticos "Así Eres Tú" de Axel Martínez, "Será Que Si" de Luis Lambis, dos baladas "Por Favor Señora" de Juan C. Calderón, "Te Va a Doler" de Álvaro Torres y un medley de éxitos de Maelo.
Para el año de 2007, Maelo lanza, de la mano de esta misma disquera, su disco "Puro Corazón", donde versiona algunos temas románticos clásicos de los años 90 como "Entrégate" (originalmente interpretada por Luis Miguel).
También versionó el sencillo "Amor, amor" interpretado originalmente por Camilo Sesto.
Actualmente, es administrativo y socio mayoritario de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Campus Tabasco, impulsando a los jóvenes para poder continuar con sus estudios, abriendo talleres musicales, buscando talentos e impulsando a la música de tal manera que los jóvenes desarrollen sus potenciales.

Nace en los Estados Unidos pero a los 4 años de edad se trasladó junto a toda su familia a Puerto Rico de donde eran originalmente. Comienza su carrera en la música muy joven a la edad de 16 años cuando empieza a cantar en la "Escuela Libre de Música de Caguas". A pesar de esto comienza realmente su carrera en la música a la edad de 19 años cuando comienza su internacionalización siendo la primera voz de Pedro Conga y su orquesta Internacional a la cual perteneció 7 años y grabó 4 producciones junto a Pedro Conga. Los éxitos "No Te Quites La Ropa" sobrepasaron las 50,000 unidades en ventas mereciéndose su primer Disco de Oro en Puerto Rico, Atrévete, Vicio (Disco de Oro en Colombia), Quiero Volver, Si Supieras, Te Quiero Amor y Me Niegas Tanto Amor fueron éxitos que dieron a conocer a Maelo Ruiz en Latinoamérica. También fue corista del destacado salsero Willie González.
En 1994 lanza su Primera producción como solista "Solo" (1994) donde se destacó el tema "Te Necesito Mi Amor", colocándose cuatro semanas consecutivas Primer lugar en Colombia, Panamá, Venezuela, Chicago, Los Ángeles, Miami.
