Qantas flight makes emergency landing

A Qantas Airbus A380 travelling to Los Angeles has been forced to divert to Sydney due to a technical fault.

The captain decided to land in Sydney to have the fault fixed rather than continue with the 14-hour journey to Los Angeles, a Qantas spokesman said.

A flight map shows the plane circling off Sydney with reports that it dumped fuel at sea before coming in to land at Sydney Airport.

A Qantas spokesman said the plane was forced to divert to Sydney due to the faulty indicator light but "it is not an emergency situation".

The aircraft landed in Sydney just after 1pm where it was greeted by emergency services as a standard procedure before being checked by maintenance staff.
