Canberra Capitals set to sign seven-time WNBL champion Nat Hurst for season

The Canberra Capitals are set to bolster their roster with seven-time WNBL championship-winner Nat Hurst after landing a massive signing for the season.

Hurst is expected to sign with the Capitals on Friday after deciding to make an Australian comeback instead of continuing her career in Europe.

The 34-year-old is the only player to have been involved in all seven of Canberra's WNBL titles after starting her career as a teenager in 1999.

The Canberra junior has developed into a dominant point guard and has been invited to an Australian Opals training camp in Phoenix later this month.

Hurst had almost given up on her international ambitions before being called into the Opals squad by new coach Sandy Brondello.

Her deal with the Capitals kickstarts a massive month for Hurst, who is also expecting the birth of her first child in the coming weeks.

Hurst has played 228 WNBL games and was the grand final most valuable player in 2009 before stints in France and Turkey.

Recruiting Hurst will add experience to Canberra's squad for the 2017-18 season as coach Paul Goriss puts pieces of the puzzle in place.
Hurst will fill the point guard position vacated by Lauren Mansfield, who is set to play in Europe.
The Capitals re-signed Kate Gaze earlier this week and Goriss is working on finalising his recruitment in the coming months.
