It's official. This cake-cutting hack is one of the coolest things you'll see all year.

And you'll never try and cut a round cake into triangle-sliced wedges again.

Thanks to Australian baker and blogger Katherine Sabbath she's come up with an ingenious way to cut up to 10 slices of cake at once, using nothing but a chopping board and knife.

The timesaving technique will come in handy when you've got a party of little kids all shouting for cake at once.

In the video that's gone viral, viewed more than 1.3 million times, her layered birthday cake is sliced into pieces by her friend Julie in record time.

"A fine example of how to cut my whopper of a cake into responsible servings!" she wrote.

"The best thing about this is, you can always go back for seconds or thirds."

And it's super easy to do. Just lean the chopping board at 90 degrees against the side of your cake and slice lengthways, parallel to the board, so you get a thin rectangular slice. Gently lower the board back as the slice falls against the board. Then slice that piece into portions. Easy.

The only issue that hasn't been solved by this technique is how to ensure each child gets the same amount of lollies or a particular colour of icing or who gets to blow out the candle first after the birthday child.
