University of Texas at El Paso
Coordinates: 31°46′12″N 106°30′18″W / 31.77000°N 106.50500°W / 31.77000; -106.50500
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a public, research, Ph.D.-granting institution in the University of Texas System. The school was founded in 1914 as the State School of Mines and Metallurgy, and a practice mineshaft survives on the mountainous desert campus. Following a reorganization of the University of Texas in 1920, the school was renamed the College of Mines and Metallurgy of the University of Texas. It became Texas Western College of the University of Texas in 1949, and The University of Texas at El Paso in 1967.
In fall 2014, enrollment was 23,079 (19,817 undergraduate and 3,262 graduate students). UTEP is the largest university in the U.S. with a majority Mexican American student population (about 70%).
The El Paso, Texas, campus features a one-of-a-kind collection of buildings in the Bhutanese architectural style. The UTEP campus is located on hillsides overlooking the Rio Grande, with Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, within easy view across the border.

Texas Eagle El Paso to Bowie
January 2022 and I had to use an Amtrak voucher from a trip cancelled due to Covid in 2020, so off to Tucson on the Texas Eagle. After a southerly run from Chicago to San Antonio a few cars are tacked onto the rear of the Sunset Limited for the trip west. This covers the segment west of El Paso. My sleeper was still on the rear of the train, so I was able again to shoot out the back window as we made the serpentine climb from El Paso that brings us to a high desert for the duration of the trip. Includes a full UP eastbound stack train.

January 2022 and I had to use an Amtrak voucher from a trip cancelled due to Covid in 2020, so off to Tucson on the Texas Eagle. After a southerly run from Chicago to San Antonio a few cars are tacked onto the rear of the Sunset Limited for the trip west.
This covers the segment west of El Paso. My sleeper was still on the rear of the train, so I was able again to shoot out the back window as we made the serpentine climb from El Paso that brings us to a high desert for the duration of the trip. Includes a full UP eastbound stack train.

University of Texas at El Paso

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a public, research, Ph.D.-granting institution in the University of Texas System. The school was founded in 1914 as the State School of Mines and Metallurgy, and a practice mineshaft survives on the mountainous desert campus. Following a reorganization of the University of Texas in 1920, the school was renamed the College of Mines and Metallurgy of the University of Texas. It became Texas Western College of the University of Texas in 1949, and The University of Texas at El Paso in 1967.
In fall 2014, enrollment was 23,079 (19,817 undergraduate and 3,262 graduate students). UTEP is the largest university in the U.S. with a majority Mexican American student population (about 70%).
The El Paso, Texas, campus features a one-of-a-kind collection of buildings in the Bhutanese architectural style. The UTEP campus is located on hillsides overlooking the Rio Grande, with Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, within easy view across the border.

I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Nighttime would find me in Rosa's Cantina
Music would play and Felina would whirl
Blacker than night where the eyes of Felina
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
