Police have issued images and CCTV in the hope witnesses of a violent attack might come forward.
At around 3.50am on Friday 16 December 2016, three teenagers were stood waiting for a taxi at the taxi rank on Portland Street in Manchester city centre.
They were approached by a group of eight men who began verbally abusing them before physically assaulting them.
The men were described as Asian in their early 20s and smartly dressed.
One of the victims was attacked and dragged along the street by his feet away from the group before being punched in the face several times before being left unconscious outside the Mercure Hotel.
The victim, 18 year old James Toolan, sustained serious facial injuries and broke three bones in his cheek.
The offender was described as Asian, around 20 years old and wearing black jeans and a blue/grey jacket.
PC Gareth Gardiner from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was a totally unprovoked and sickening attack on a young lad who had been at a concert in the city centre with his two friends. This was their first visit to Manchester City Centre and this is the memory they will be left with.
“We have issued CCTV and images of James’ injuries in the hope that someone might have seen the incident and come and speak to us.
“Christmas and New Year were ruined for James, as he had to spend it recovering from his injuries. I want to be able to get him and his family the justice they deserve.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4275, or via 101 quoting the crime reference number 245333J/16 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A short while ago, Manchester City Council and Transport For Greater Manchester (TfGM) completed work on Portland Street to "improve routes for buses, cyclists and hackney carriages" as part of a total of £1bn being spent on the city centre to improve connections across the city.
Since the road reopened, we have had the chance to try out this new infrastucture. I have read reviews on it for myself, and in this video I get the chance to try it out. Sadly, it's money that has been spent on an idea which is very badly flawed. See what I mean as we cycle northbound through the new section.
Twits note: At the time this video was shot, there were no traffic signals active along the entire stretch. The signals are now in operation, but it's no less stupid a layout.

Portland Street
Portland Street is a popular street in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The street is known for its business and retailing skyscraper complex Langham Place, numerous restaurants and its red-light district.
Geography
Running north-south and parallel to (and west of) Nathan Road, a main thoroughfare up the Kowloon peninsula, Portland Street extends through the districts of Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok in Kowloon. Approximately three-quarters of a mile in length, it spans between Bute Street in the north and one block past Waterloo Road in the south. The street is directly accessible by the Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei stations of the MTR, Hong Kong's subway system.
Except for a few small parks, the entire two-lane street is highly urbanised with dense pedestrian and motor traffic throughout most of the day.
Character
A section of Portland Street, particularly between Argyle Street and Dundas Street, hosts arguably Hong Kong's most famous red light district (serving mostly local Chinese clientele) and a popular scene in Hong Kong films. There, underneath a dizzying and chaotic array of neon signs, one can find prostitutes from around the world (although mostly from mainland China) serving in hundreds of massage parlours, night clubs, karaoke/hostess bars and brothels. Although prostitution is legal in Hong Kong, law enforcement is often active in this area conducting raids for prostitutes who entered Hong Kong illegally or have overstayed their visas or to search for under-aged prostitutes, pimps, human traffickers and triad activities.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong (香港; "Fragrant Harbour"), officially Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the southern coast of China at the Pearl River Estuary and the South China Sea. Hong Kong is known for its skyline and deep natural harbour. It has a land area of 1104 km2 and shares its northern border with Guangdong Province of Mainland China. With around 7.2 million inhabitants of various nationalities, Hong Kong is one of the world's most densely populated metropolises.
After the First Opium War (1839–42), Hong Kong became a British colony with the perpetual cession of Hong Kong Island, followed by Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 and a 99-year lease of the New Territories from 1898. Hong Kong remained under British control for about a century until the Second World War, when Japan occupied the colony from December 1941 to August 1945. After the Surrender of Japan, the British resumed control. In the 1980s, negotiations between the United Kingdom and the China resulted in the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, which provided for the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong on 30 June 1997. The territory became a special administrative region of China with a high degree of autonomy on 1 July 1997 under the principle of one country, two systems. Disputes over the perceived misapplication of this principle have contributed to popular protests, including the 2014 Umbrella Revolution.

PC Gareth Gardiner from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was a totally unprovoked and sickening attack on a young lad who had been at a concert in the city centre with his two friends. This was their first visit to Manchester City Centre and this is the memory they will be left with.
“We have issued CCTV and images of James’ injuries in the hope that someone might have seen the incident and come and speak to us.
“Christmas and New Year were ruined for James, as he had to spend it recovering from his injuries. I want to be able to get him and his family the justice they deserve.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4275, or via 101 quoting the crime reference number 245333J/16 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

At around 3.50am on Friday 16 December 2016, three teenagers were stood waiting for a taxi at the taxi rank on Portland Street in Manchester city centre.
They were approached by a group of eight men who began verbally abusing them before physically assaulting them.

A short while ago, Manchester City Council and Transport For Greater Manchester (TfGM) completed work on Portland Street to "improve routes for buses, cyclists and hackney carriages" as part of a total of £1bn being spent on the city centre to improve connections across the city.
Since the road reopened, we have had the chance to try out this new infrastucture. I have read reviews on it for myself, and in this video I get the chance to try it out. Sadly, it's money that has been spent on an idea which is very badly flawed. See what I mean as we cycle northbound through the new section.
Twits note: At the time this video was shot, there were no traffic signals active along the entire stretch. The signals are now in operation, but it's no less stupid a layout.

In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States.
I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti.
While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next portion of my video guide I give a tour of my "crib" to show what it's like to live and stay in a tiny house.
Then, in an effort to get a chance to experience the famed brunch scene in Portland, I stopped in at The Tin Shed Garden Cafe, located down the street from where I was staying in the New Alberta Arts District.
In the interest of learning more about food, I headed to the downtown location of the Portland Farmers Market, located in a beautiful stretch of downtown Portland. Here, I got a tour of the grounds with Mona Johnson, then had the opportunity to meet up with some of the vendors, including Matt Choi of Choi's Kimchi Company, and famed chef and artisanal pickle impresario, David Barber of Picklopolis and Bingo! Sandwiches.
In need of a little peace and serenity, I then visited the Lan Su Chinese Garden, a peaceful and beautiful oasis in an otherwise busy and hectic part of downtown.
When visiting Portland, there's no reason to spend all your time in the city, especially with so much to do outside the city limits. The next day I took a road trip with local Matthew Domingo to explore the Columbia River Gorge and the numerous trails and waterfalls just off the road you can check out.
Then, to wrap things up, we stopped in at Hood River Organic near the riverside town of Hood River, an organic orchard and farm run by East Coast ex-pat Dan Thall, who gave us a tour of his land. Once the day ended we then headed out to happy hour at Solera Brewery in the imposing shadow of Mount Hood and then into town for a dinner featuring mushroom pizza with mushrooms Dan had grown and recently delivered to the restaurant.

Police have issued images and CCTV in the hope witnesses of a violent attack might come forward. At around 3.50am on Friday 16 December 2016, three teenagers were stood waiting for a taxi at the taxi rank on Portland Street in Manchester city centre. They were approached by a group of eight men who began verbally abusing them before physically assaulting them. The men were described as Asian in their early 20s and smartly dressed. One of the victims was attacked and dragged along the street by his feet away from the group before being punched in the face several times before being left unconscious outside the Mercure Hotel. Portland St - A Twits Analysis
A short while ago, Manchester City Council and Transport For Greater Manchester (TfGM) completed work on Portland Street to "improve routes for buses, cyclists and hackney carriages" as part of a total of £1bn being spent on the city centre to improve connections across the city. Since the road reopened, we have had the chance to try out this new infrastucture. I have read reviews on it for myself, and in this video I get the chance to try it out. Sadly, it's money that has been spent on an idea which is very badly flawed. See what I mean as we cycle northbound through the new section. Twits note: At the time this video was shot, there were no traffic signals active along the entire stretch. The signals are now in operation, but it's no less stupid a layout.

The men were described as Asian in their early 20s and smartly dressed.
One of the victims was attacked and dragged along the street by his feet away from the group before being punched in the face several times before being left unconscious outside the Mercure Hotel.
The victim, 18 year old James Toolan, sustained serious facial injuries and broke three bones in his cheek.
The offender was described as Asian, around 20 years old and wearing black jeans and a blue/grey jacket.
PC Gareth Gardiner from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was a totally unprovoked and sickening attack on a young lad who had been at a concert in the city centre with his two friends. This was their first visit to Manchester City Centre and this is the memory they will be left with.
“We have issued CCTV and images of James’ injuries in the hope that someone might have seen the incident and come and speak to us.
“Christmas and New Year were ruined for James, as he had to spend it recovering from his injuries. I want to be able to get him and his family the justice they deserve.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4275, or via 101 quoting the crime reference number 245333J/16 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A short while ago, Manchester City Council and Transport For Greater Manchester (TfGM) completed work on Portland Street to "improve routes for buses, cyclists and hackney carriages" as part of a total of £1bn being spent on the city centre to improve connections across the city.
Since the road reopened, we have had the chance to try out this new infrastucture. I have read reviews on it for myself, and in this video I get the chance to try it out. Sadly, it's money that has been spent on an idea which is very badly flawed. See what I mean as we cycle northbound through the new section.
Twits note: At the time this video was shot, there were no traffic signals active along the entire stretch. The signals are now in operation, but it's no less stupid a layout.
