Paris By Night

Paris By Night is a popular Vietnamese-language musical variety show, produced by Thúy Nga and hosted by Nguyễn Ngọc Ngạn and Nguyễn Cao Kỳ Duyên, featuring musical performances by modern pop stars, traditional folk songs, one-act plays, and sketch comedy.

Production

Originally Paris By Night was filmed exclusively in Paris, with its intended target audience consisting of the Vietnamese population in France. However, by the late 1980s, demand from the more populous Vietnamese American community for the production to host shows in the United States and the fact that most Vietnamese language performers from the former South Vietnam lived in the country resulted in Paris By Night restructuring its operations to Orange County, California. The first Paris by Night productions in the United States were filmed beginning in the mid-1990s.

Produced by Thúy Nga, the series normally consists of mostly the same staff and crew. However, there are different directors for each region of where the show is filmed: currently there is Richard Valverde in Paris, and Michael Watt in Canada and the US, Victor Fable in the US.

By Night

By Night is an extreme metal act from Falkenberg in Sweden, formed by André Gonzales (guitar), Simon Wien (guitar), and Per Qvarnström (drums) in 1999. After several line-up changes, bassist Henrik Persson joined and stayed, later on singer Christoffer Andersson as well. Two demos were recorded, By Night (2000) and Derelict (2001).

In 2002, Christoffer Andersson left and was replaced by Adrian Westin, singer of the band Aggressive Serpent (now called Trendkill). The band recorded the demo Lamentation, and was voted as the best unsigned band by Monster Magazine and Close-Up. In 2004, they signed with Lifeforce Records and released a split EP with Cipher System, Cipher System / By Night.

Since then they have released two albums, Burn the Flags in 2005 and A New Shape of Desperation in 2006. In 2005, they toured Europe in the We Are the Enemy Tour (with Destiny and Deadsoil) and the Monster Mosh Down Tour (with Ektomorf, Disbelief, and Betzefer). Shortly after the release of Burn the Flags, Simon Wien quit. Henrik Persson took his place as a guitarist and bassist Markus Wesslén (from Trendkill) joined. After the release of their second album they went on a third tour through Europe with fellow Lifeforce band Fall of Serenity.

Thúy Nga Inc. (dba Thúy Nga Productions & Thúy Nga Music) ( listen) is a Vietnamese-oriented entertainment company that produces Paris By Night, as well as music CDs, musical specials, movies and films, magazines, audiobooks, posters, and calendars. It is variously referred to as Thúy Nga Incorporated, Thúy Nga Paris, and Trung Tâm Thúy Nga (literally, Thúy Nga centre).

Thúy Nga is the most prestigious recording studio and music production in the overseas Vietnamese music world. Thúy Nga Productions has been the symbol of success the overseas Vietnamese have achieved since the events in their country in 1975 that led to their diaspora. Along with Lang Van, it is the only U.S.-based Vietnamese production company to have overseas operations in Paris, France.

In addition to its headquarters at Westminster, CA and its original headquarters in Paris, Thúy Nga also has regional sales and distribution centers in Toronto, Canada and in Bankstown, New South Wales in Australia. The company also transferred part of its Australian distribution rights to a local music center at Footscray, Victoria. With a network of distribution centers worldwide, the company offers a distribution service to third-party producers and studios all over the world.
