Sense8 has a gift for its fans: A two-hour finale episode is in the works for the canceled Netflix series, the show announced on Twitter Thursday.

The news came in the form of a letter from co-creator Lana Wachowski, who helmed the most recent second season of the sci-fi series when sister Lilly Wachowski took a step back. The pair created the show with J. Michael Straczynski.

Tyler Perry to Play Pioneering Filmmaker Oscar Micheaux in HBO Biopic (Exclusive)

HBO is developing a biopic of pioneering African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux that has Tyler Perry on board to star.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are shepherding the project for Sony Pictures TV through their Storyline Entertainment banner. Perry is set to executive produce with Zadan and Meron but does not plan to direct.

Charles Murray, an alum of “Sons of Anarchy” and History’s redo of “Roots,” is penning the script. It’s based on the 2007 biography “Oscar Micheaux: The Great and Only: The Life of America’s First Black Filmmaker” by film historian Patrick McGilligan.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Tyler Perry to bring Oscar Micheaux’s inspiring and trailblazing life story to HBO,” said Zadan. Box Office: ‘Baby Driver’ Gets a $5.7 Million Head Start

Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver” has driven to a respectable $5.7 million at 3,226 North American locations on its first day on Wednesday.

Sony’s R-rated action-thriller, starring Ansel Elgort as a getaway car driver, has gotten a head start on the Independence Day weekend before “Despicable Me 3” and “The House” open on Friday. The studio is projecting an opening in the $15 million range for the five-day Wednesday-Sunday period, while other pre-release forecasts have been in the $20 million area.

Andy Serkis’ ‘Breathe’ to Open London Film Festival

Love story “Breathe,” Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, is set to open the BFI London Film Festival with its European premiere.

The “Lord of the Rings” actor’s production company The Imaginarium made the movie, which is based on the story of Imaginarium co-founder Jonathan Cavendish’s parents. It follows Robin Cavendish, played by Andrew Garfield (“Hacksaw Ridge”), and the attempts by his wife Diana, Claire Foy (“The Crown”), to help him lead a normal life after he is paralyzed by polio.

Both stars, Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish will be at the premiere at London’s Odeon Leicester Square on Oct. 4, and the film will play simultaneously in cinemas across the U.K. ahead of its Oct. 27 general release in the country by Stx International. Kenneth Lonergan to Be Honored at Austin Film Festival

Kenneth Lonergan, who won the best original screenplay Oscar for Manchester by the Sea, will be honored at the Austin Film Festival & Writers Conference, where he will receive the event’s 2017 Distinguished Screenwriter Award.

The festival, which celebrates writers’ contributions to film, television and new media, takes place Oct. 26-29, and Lonergan will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon on Oct. 28.

The “X-Files” star tweeted her disapproval after TVLine reported that the show’s Season 11 writer’s room is comprised of all men.

Fox Names Julien Noble to Head of Worldwide Digital Marketing (Exclusive)

Julien Noble has been elevated to executive vice president of worldwide digital marketing at 20th Century Fox, Variety has learned. His promotion comes amidst a series of personnel changes to Fox’s marketing and research arm.

As part of those moves, Andrew Ferguson, who joined Fox from Sony a little over two years ago, has been promoted and will head up the studio’s strategic research efforts. He was previously senior vice president of strategic marketing and research. There have also been cuts as part of the shakeup. David Singh left the studio this month after a three-year stint as executive vice president of creative advertising. Jan Kounen’s ‘Kosmik Journey’ Headlines Okio’s Vr Slate

Paris– Okio, the up-and-coming Parisian production banner behind the Tribeca-playing Vr short film “I, Philip,” is developing several Vr experiences, including Jan Kounen’s “Kosmik Journey,” Pierre Zandrowicz’s “Mirror” and Julien Mokrani’s “Lights.”

An interactive Vr short, “Kosmik Journey” (pictured above) takes place in the heart of the Peruvian jungle, where Kounen meets a healer and gets to experiment a hallucinogenic brew called Ayahuasca which is believed to have therapeutical virtues. The experience then allows the user to share Kounen’s visions and sensations as well as interact with the surroundings.
