De Grote Slenk (ook bekend als de Oost-Afrikaanse slenk, Grote Afrikaanse Slenk of de Grote Riftvallei) is een riftvallei; een langgerekt stelsel van slenken, dat loopt van Syrië tot Mozambique over een totale lengte van 6400 km. De slenk varieert in breedte van 30 tot 100 km en in diepte van enkele honderden tot zelfs duizenden meters. In de geologie wordt een dergelijk stelsel van slenken een rift genoemd, een gebied waar twee tektonische platen uit elkaar bewegen. Oost-Afrika maakt deel uit van de continentale Afrikaanse plaat, maar is op dit moment aan het splitsen in 2 platen. Dit zijn de Nubische plaat in het westen en de Somalische plaat in het oosten. Cadenza boss Luciano weighs in with a delicate remix, building the percussion and instrumentation before ushering in the vocals, underpinned with an organic synth line, with care not to clutter the remix but with attention to the melody and build. It is left to Lee Van Dowski to provide a more club orientated remix, all punchy drums and finger snaps, eking in the melody and vocals bar by bar until the whole remix shines through with feel good factor 50! Martin Rebelski is perhaps best known for his work with Mancunian band Doves (with whom he has toured and recorded extensively with on the keys), but also lending his hand to projects with Badly Drawn Boy, composing several soundtracks, as well as a clutch of his own albums and singles for Twisted Nerve, Black Maps and Heavenly Records. Rebelski formed a union with Luciano back in 2011 when the pair began writing sessions, testing out ideas and grooves, resulting in 2012s memorable Rise Of Angel single from Luciano. The Rift Valley almost certainly comes from that same moment in time, with Rebelski stretching out his musicality and talent to encompass a plethora of instruments and ideas, and pushing the envelope further in regards to music that can work within the electronic dance environment.

Rift valley
A rift valley is a linear-shaped lowland between several highlands or mountain ranges created by the action of a geologic rift or fault. A rift valley is formed on a divergent plate boundary, a crustal extension, a spreading apart of the surface, which is subsequently further deepened by the forces of erosion. When the tensional forces were strong enough to cause the plate to split apart, a center block dropped between the two blocks at its flanks, forming a graben. The drop of the center creates the nearly parallel steeply dipping walls of a rift valley when it is new. That feature is the beginning of the rift valley, but as the process continues, the valley widens, until it becomes a large basin that fills with sediment from the rift walls and the surrounding area. One of the best known examples of this process is the East African Rift. On Earth, rifts can occur at all elevations, from the sea floor to plateaus and mountain range in continental crust or in oceanic crust. They are often associated with a number of adjoining subsidiary or co-extensive valleys, which are typically considered part of the principal rift valley geologically.

Rift
In geology, a rift is a linear zone where the Earth's crust and lithosphere are being pulled apart and is an example of extensional tectonics.
Typical rift features are a central linear downfaulted depression, called a graben, or more commonly a half-graben with normal faulting and rift-flank uplifts mainly on one side. Where rifts remain above sea level they form a rift valley, which may be filled by water forming a rift lake. The axis of the rift area may contain volcanic rocks, and active volcanism is a part of many, but not all active rift systems.
Major rifts occur along the central axis of most mid-ocean ridges, where new oceanic crust and lithosphere is created along a divergent boundary between two tectonic plates.
Failed rifts are the result of continental rifting that failed to continue to the point of break-up. Typically the transition from rifting to spreading develops at a triple junction where three converging rifts meet over a hotspot. Two of these evolve to the point of seafloor spreading, while the third ultimately fails, becoming an aulacogen.

In its Original Mix, The Rift Valley is a short, multi-instrumental piece, backed with a full choir, whose soaring voices go panoramic over the light and simple drum programming. Cadenza boss Luciano weighs in with a delicate remix, building the percussion and instrumentation before ushering in the vocals, underpinned with an organic synth line, with care not to clutter the remix but with attention to the melody and build. It is left to Lee Van Dowski to provide a more club orientated remix, all punchy drums and finger snaps, eking in the melody and vocals bar by bar until the whole remix shines through with feel good factor 50! Martin Rebelski is perhaps best known for his work with Mancunian band Doves (with whom he has toured and recorded extensively with on the keys), but also lending his hand to projects with Badly Drawn Boy, composing several soundtracks, as well as a clutch of his own albums and singles for Twisted Nerve, Black Maps and Heavenly Records. Rebelski formed a union with Luciano back in 2011 when the pair began writing sessions, testing out ideas and grooves, resulting in 2012s memorable Rise Of Angel single from Luciano. As with many other lakes in the Great Rift Valley, with more than four hundred bird species Lake Naivasha is a true paradise among ornithologists. The tranquillity of the lake can be quite deceptive and the Massai name of the lake, En-Aiposha, meaning ‘back and forth’, is an indication of how turbulent Naivasha can sometimes be. A friendly welcome awaits visitors to Crescent Island at the southern end of Lake Naivasha. This idyllic island is located on the edge of a submerged volcanic crater and as there are no dangerous animals on the island it can be explored at leisure. Lake Nakuru’s main attraction is its flamingo population. Up to two million of these birds once lived here and even today they have transformed the lake into a mass of dazzling colour. Cormorants, heron and pelican are among the most important birds on Lake Nakuru. They each survive on fish of which the lake has an abundant supply. Located below the six hundred metre high Laikipia Escarpment, Lake Bogoria is the most spectacular lake in the Great Rift Valley. As with most lakes in this region Lake Bogoria is alkaline due to its lack of outlets yet at the same time it is paradise for the flamingo. The fascinating lakes of the Great Rift Valley are one of the most outstanding highlights of Kenya’s landscape and one of the most spectacular areas on the entire African continent.
