Hong Kong (香港; "Fragrant Harbour"), officially Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the southern coast of China at the Pearl River Estuary and the South China Sea. Hong Kong is known for its skyline and deep natural harbour. It has a land area of 1104 km2 and shares its northern border with Guangdong Province of Mainland China. With around 7.2 million inhabitants of various nationalities, Hong Kong is one of the world's most densely populated metropolises.
After the First Opium War (1839–42), Hong Kong became a British colony with the perpetual cession of Hong Kong Island, followed by Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 and a 99-year lease of the New Territories from 1898. Hong Kong remained under British control for about a century until the Second World War, when Japan occupied the colony from December 1941 to August 1945. After the Surrender of Japan, the British resumed control. In the 1980s, negotiations between the United Kingdom and the China resulted in the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, which provided for the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong on 30 June 1997. The territory became a special administrative region of China with a high degree of autonomy on 1 July 1997 under the principle of one country, two systems. Disputes over the perceived misapplication of this principle have contributed to popular protests, including the 2014 Umbrella Revolution.

Street food is ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a hawker, or vendor, in a street or other public place, such as at a market or fair. It is often sold from a portable food booth, food cart, or food truck and meant for immediate consumption. Some street foods are regional, but many have spread beyond their region of origin. Most street foods are classed as both finger food and fast food, and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. According to a 2007 study from the Food and Agriculture Organization, 2.5 billion people eat street food every day.
Today, people may purchase street food for a number of reasons, such as to get flavorful food for a reasonable price in a sociable setting, to experience ethnic cuisines, or for nostalgia.
Small fried fish were a street food in ancient Greece, however, Theophrastus held the custom of street food in low regard. Evidence of a large number of street food vendors were discovered during the excavation of Pompeii. Street food was widely consumed by poor urban residents of ancient Rome whose tenement homes did not have ovens or hearths. Here, chickpea soup with bread and grain paste were common meals. In ancient China, street food generally catered to the poor, however, wealthy residents would send servants to buy street food and bring it back for them to eat in their homes.
Cup Noodle (カップヌードル, Caapu Nūdoru) is a brand of instant ramen noodle snack manufactured by Nissin, packaged in a foam food container, hard plastic or paper cup. Other brand names are used in specific countries, such as the singular Cup Noodle in Japan, and the product has inspired numerous competitors, such as Maruchan's Instant Lunch.
Instant noodles were invented in 1958 by Momofuku Ando, the Taiwanese-born founder of the Japanese food company Nissin. He used Chikin Ramen (Chicken Ramen) as the first instant ramen noodles.
In 1970, Nissin formed the subsidiary Nissin Foods (USA) Co. Inc, to sell instant noodles in the United States. Nissin recognized that the bowls traditionally used to package instant noodles in Asia were not common in the U.S, so they used the paper cup.
In 1971, they introduced instant ramen packaged in a foam cup. Originally, the product was known as Cup O' Noodles in the United States until 1993.
In 1978, Nissin Foods offers new varieties of Top Ramen and Cup O' Noodles.

Follow me on instagram: @javin_lau instagram.com/javin_lau Hong Kong is Home. I remember when I first arrived in Hong Kong almost a decade ago, I felt like I had walked into an actual movie set. It was a place that I had only seen on TV as a kid, with its strange red taxi’s, odd stop lights and driving on the other side of the road. My intent with this project was to illustrate the grandeur of Hong Kong that most people would never get to see. When I had recently watched the movie Oblivion, it had somehow starkly reminded me of Hong Kong, with the feeling of being so insignificantly small -- almost irrelevant to my surroundings. Hong Kong is an unbelievably dense city, where much of the world can be accessed at your fingertips. But in a city where you can access the material world in ...

This video was shooted in 2014. During two my visits HK in February and November. First time I was so much impressed of this place because its the density of life. So many skycreapers, people, cars on a such small square. The best view on HK is from the rooftops, thats why most of the shots are from there. In second visit in November 2014 I became an eyewitness of Umrella revolution in Hong Kong. I was impressed of courage and perseverance HK citizens. Some of these scenes got into video. http://sergemaheu.com Video and soundtrack made for an assignment with the following subject: "Urban utopia". Edited footage that I shot on a visit to Hong Kong, a city where time warps seem to be the norm. Hong Kong – Upside Down captures this impression of the surreal, as I imagine Hong Kong as a place of no gravity, where dimensions merge, split apart, and collide, and where both people and buses pulse and move forward and backward to the beat of time.

Do you remember that scene in Pinocchio, when our favourite lying doll is convinced by honest John to take a vacation and then placed on a stage coach on its way to Pleasure Island where other misfit kids can do smoke cigars, drink and break things without any thought of consequences but are then turned into terrifying mini donkeys, the thought of which still sometime haunts my dreams by the way. Well, Hong Kong is Pleasure Island.
A farewell love letter to the city I have called my home for the past six years. Shot on the Sony RX100. Edited and color graded on Final Cut Pro X. Lightly applied the Color Grading Central CineLook plug-in on most well-lit shots. Utilized the CarrySpeed CPL MagFilter on some daytime shots.

Last summer I went to Hong Kong. shot: Nikon D600 edit: Final Cut Pro X colour: DaVinci Resolve www.billyboydcape.com
Equipment used: Canon 5D mark3, (Magic Lantern) Lenses: Canon 17-40, Canon 24-105, Canon 70-200, Sigma 12-14. Giottos carbon tripod. Music: The Prodigy - Climbatize

http://sergemaheu.com Video and soundtrack made for an assignment with the following subject: "Urban utopia".
