The blue plaque which sits on what is now Birkbeck’s School of Arts, indicating economist Keynes lived there from 1916-46, has been given a temporary rainbow makeover in celebration of the two week Pride Festival in London.
Dame Stephanie ‘Steve’ Shirley received the accolade as part of the Queen’s most recent Birthday Honours List. She is the first Birkbeck alumna to receive this honour.

Birkbeck's Lisa Baraitser recently spoke on the importance of addressing the experiences of women who parent and are in prisons as a pressing feminist issue. She cited the need to reflect on what incarcerating mothers does to women, to children and to communities.
The Seasons in Quincy is the first feature-length documentary to be produced by the Derek Jarman Lab, Birkbeck’s audiovisual hub, and was made by graduate students there in collaboration with Tilda Swinton, Christopher Roth, Simon Fisher Turner and Colin MacCabe.
