This video shows how I was harassed by two CMPD (Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department) officers for sitting on the side of the road browsing FaceBook on the night of July 11th, 2015. Apparently, someone called them and said there was a black guy sitting on the side of the road, twice. Clearly, no crime had been committed as both of the officers stated in the video. This video was the second encounter between the officers and I with-in a 90 minute window. During the first encounter, I noticed the officers racing up and down Park Road between Fairview and Archdale. Right away, I had a feeling that they were looking for me. They pulled up and parked about 50 yards in front of me. I immediately became defensive and asked them what their problem was. They asked me if I was sitting on the side of Closeburn Road next to an apartment building. After I told them I was, they indicated that people had broken into things in the area (they didn’t specify exactly what was broken into). This upset me and made me feel like I was being accused of something I did not do. I asked them if I was under arrest, if I was being detained, or if I violated the law in any way, shape or form. When they said no to all three of those questions, I told them that we had nothing to discuss and walked away. After the first encounter, I was upset and I decided to be a bit of a jerk. I went right back to where I was with the hopes that the same people would call the police again so I could record this and make it public. The ploy paid off because they went back. Two things, one, harassment is defined as unwanted and unnecessary contact (the officers technically violated NC General Statute § 14-277.3A due to the fact that no crime had been committed which means they had no legitimate reason to make contact with me [section c], they made contact twice with the clear intent to annoy me, I was in honest fear of my own safety because of the continuous contact). I do not like or trust the police, so of course I did not want to talk to them and no crime had been committed, so how is this NOT harassment as one of the officers claimed in the video? And two, when I asked the officer if he was "going to shoot an unarmed black man" look at where both officers’ hands were. Doesn't sound like a stupid question to me. I felt threatened because they had their hands on their side arms as if they “might” have had a reason to use them. Evidently, they were expecting a struggle, but I, a black guy, did not give them what they wanted, and look who left and look who remained where he was. Please use this video as a tutorial on how to deal with the police, especially if you know the law and know that you did not violate it.

Child Protective Services
Child Protective Services (CPS) is the name of a governmental agency in many states of the United States that responds to reports of child abuse or neglect. Some states use other names, often attempting to reflect more family-centered (as opposed to child-centered) practices, such as "Department of Children & Family Services" (DCFS). CPS is also known by the name of "Department of Social Services" (DSS) or simply "Social Services."

In 1690, in what is now the Americas, there were criminal court cases involving child abuse. In 1692, states and municipalities identified care for abused and neglected children as the responsibility of local government and private institutions. In 1696, The Kingdom of England first used the legal principle of parens patriae, which gave the royal crown care of "charities, infants, idiots, and lunatics returned to the chancery." This principal of parens patriae has been identified as the statutory basis for U.S. governmental intervention in families' child rearing practices.

Hong Khaou
Hong Khaou (born 22 October 1975) is a Cambodian born, British film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his debut feature film Lilting and the short films Summer and Spring.
Early life
Hong Khaou was born in Cambodia, but his family moved to the United Kingdom in the 1980s as political refugees. He arrived in the UK at the age of eight, having first moved from Cambodia, to Vietnam.
Education
Hong studied BA (Hons) Film Production at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Farnham, formerly the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, graduating in 1997.
Film
His debut feature film Lilting was produced under the Film London micro-budget scheme Microwave, and was released on 8 August in the United Kingdom by distributors Artificial Eye. His short film Spring played at both the Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival in 2011, with his previous short Summer also having premiered at Berlin in 2006. He is the recipient of the 2014 Sundance Institute/Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award for his upcoming feature film Monsoon.

This video shows how I was harassed by two CMPD (Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department) officers for sitting on the side of the road browsing FaceBook on the night of July 11th, 2015. Apparently, someone called them and said there was a black guy sitting on the side of the road, twice. Clearly, no crime had been committed as both of the officers stated in the video. This video was the second encounter between the officers and I with-in a 90 minute window. During the first encounter, I noticed the officers racing up and down Park Road between Fairview and Archdale. Right away, I had a feeling that they were looking for me. They pulled up and parked about 50 yards in front of me. I immediately became defensive and asked them what their problem was. They asked me if I was sitting on the side of Closeburn Road next to an apartment building. After I told them I was, they indicated that people had broken into things in the area (they didn’t specify exactly what was broken into). This upset me and made me feel like I was being accused of something I did not do. I asked them if I was under arrest, if I was being detained, or if I violated the law in any way, shape or form. When they said no to all three of those questions, I told them that we had nothing to discuss and walked away. After the first encounter, I was upset and I decided to be a bit of a jerk. I went right back to where I was with the hopes that the same people would call the police again so I could record this and make it public. The ploy paid off because they went back. Two things, one, harassment is defined as unwanted and unnecessary contact (the officers technically violated NC General Statute § 14-277.3A due to the fact that no crime had been committed which means they had no legitimate reason to make contact with me [section c], they made contact twice with the clear intent to annoy me, I was in honest fear of my own safety because of the continuous contact). I do not like or trust the police, so of course I did not want to talk to them and no crime had been committed, so how is this NOT harassment as one of the officers claimed in the video? And two, when I asked the officer if he was "going to shoot an unarmed black man" look at where both officers’ hands were. Doesn't sound like a stupid question to me. I felt threatened because they had their hands on their side arms as if they “might” have had a reason to use them. Evidently, they were expecting a struggle, but I, a black guy, did not give them what they wanted, and look who left and look who remained where he was. Please use this video as a tutorial on how to deal with the police, especially if you know the law and know that you did not violate it.

Global in scope, the lecture and book address the frameworks of over 25 cities through the medium of food and how the city is governed. Food City investigates the reinstatement of food through a piece of polemic titled the 'Food Parliament' - how it can be a driver to restructure employment, education, transport, health, culture, communities, and the justice system, re-evaluating how the city functions as a spatial and political entity. The work investigates the urban consequences of food transparency, consumption and production.
CJ Lim is the Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bartlett UCL, and the founder of Studio 8 Architects. His teachings and designs focus on multi-disciplinary innovative interpretations of cultural, social and environmental sustainability programs. His authored books include ‘Smartcities + Eco-warriors’ (2010), ‘Short Stories: London in two-and-a-half Dimensions’ (2011) and 'Food City' (2014), published by Routledge.

In Food City, a companion piece to Smartcities and Eco-Warriors, innovative architect and urban designer CJ Lim explores the issue of urban transformation and how the creation, storage and distribution of food has been and can again become a construct for the practice of everyday life.
