Lisa See is an American writer and novelist. Her paternal great-grandfather was Chinese, which has had a great impact on her life and work. Her books include On Gold Mountain: The One-Hundred-Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family (1995), a detailed account of See's family history, and the novels Flower Net (1997), The Interior (1999), Dragon Bones (2003), Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (2005), Peony in Love (2007) and Shanghai Girls (2009), which made it to the 2010 New York Times bestseller list. Both Shanghai Girls and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan received honorable mentions from the Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature.
Flower Net, The Interior, and Dragon Bones make up the Red Princess mystery series. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and Peony in Love focus on the lives of Chinese women in the 19th and 17th centuries respectively. Shanghai Girls (2009) chronicles the lives of two sisters who come to Los Angeles in arranged marriages and face, among other things, the pressures put on Chinese-Americans during the anti-Communist mania of the 1950s. See completed a sequel titled Dreams of Joy, released in May 2011. Her latest novel, China Dolls (June 2014), deals with Chinese American nightclub performers of the 1930s and 1940s.
Lisa may refer to:
China Dolls (Thai: ไชน่าดอลส์; Chinese: 中国娃娃; Chinese: 中國娃娃) are a pop music singing duo from Thailand. The group was composed of Pailin "Hwa Hwa" Rattanasangsatian and Supachaya "Bell" Lattisophonkul.
The duo has released several albums since their formation in 1999 and performed at the Asia 2000 Music Festival. The China Dolls are known for their song "Muay nee kah" (Thai: หมวยนี่ค่ะ, English: I Am a China Girl), which was later translated to Mandarin as "单眼皮女生" (pinyin: dānyǎnpí nǚshēng, English: Girls with Single Eyelids). They perform songs in both Thai language and Mandarin, which sometimes confuses Thai fans, but this has made the group popular in Taiwan as well as with Mandarin-speaking fans in Malaysia, Singapore and China. After a few years without a new CD under China Dolls name. Hwa Hwa has looked for a new partner since Bell has been working with her Dance School. Hwa Hwa and new partner Dan Chun are working to release a new album under a Warner Music Taiwan label in 2010.
Shanghai Girls is a 2009 novel by Lisa See. It centers on the complex relationship between two sisters, Pearl and May, as they go through great pain and suffering in leaving war-torn Shanghai, and try to adjust to the difficult roles of wives in arranged marriages and of Chinese immigrants to the U.S. This work marks a return to many of the themes the author addressed in her first major work, On Gold Mountain, a memoir of her family's history. The novel is set between 1937–57 and matches Parts IV and V of the memoir.
The novel received an Honorable Mention from the Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature. The sequel, Dreams of Joy, was released May 31, 2011.
Shanghai Girls is divided into three parts: Fate, Fortune, and Destiny. Here See treats Chinese immigration from a personal view through Pearl's narration. In On Gold Mountain she objectively placed 100 years of her Chinese family history in the context of the daunting challenges Chinese immigrants faced in coming to America in search of Gold Mountain. America's mistreatment of Chinese immigrants is stressed in both memoir and novel.
San Francisco (/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the only consolidated city-county in California. San Francisco encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state. It has a density of about 18,187 people per square mile (7,022 people per km2), making it the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City. San Francisco is the fourth-most populous city in California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, and the 13th-most populous city in the United States—with a Census-estimated 2014 population of 852,469. The city and its surrounding areas are known as the San Francisco Bay Area, and are a part of the larger OMB designated San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland combined statistical area, the fifth most populous in the nation with an estimated population of 8.6 million.

Memories & feelings
Happiness & dreams
You grow these flowers in my heart
(pause)
The letters dance before my eyes
The numbers seem to leave my mind
I walk above the ground, I'm feelin' special now
And even if the sun don't shine above
And even if the rain is fallin'
Down upon my soul
I wanna see you and ask for more
Memories & feelings
Happiness & dreams
You grow these flowers in my heart
I know memories & feelings
Everlasting healin'
I just keep them all inside
(pause)
Been waiting for an angel light
Been walkin' thru the darkest night
But then again I was livin' without you boy
And even if the sun don't shine above
And even if the rain is fallin'
Down upon my soul
I wanna see you and ask for more
Memories & feelings
Happiness & dreams
You grow these flowers in my heart
I know memories & feelings
Everlasting healin'
I just keep them all inside
